Just came across this new contender online. This one comes from a beatmaker out of New Jersey who goes by Marvol. The album is called American Gangster in the MARVOLous Return. Catchy, huh? Sorry I don’t have a bigger image of the cover. I haven’t heard this one yet (gonna download in a bit), but from the cover it looks to be a Jay-Z meets Marvin Gaye concept. I wonder if he kept the original sample for “American Dreamin”?
Anyway, check this one out and let me know what you think. We should be seeing some more remixes popping up this week as most people had the weekend to work on them.
*Edit 12/11: Ok, I just downloaded this and luckily there was a better cover image in the download. It’s different though; where’s Marvin? I was right; sounds like it’s all based on samples of Marvin Gaye. After a quick listen I’m disappointed to say that this is another remix album where the vocals don’t match up to the beats. Sorry dude, but I gotta be honest. How can someone not hear that the vocals are offbeat and be content with releasing this to the public? I would much rather scrap the whole project than to put my name on something like this. Tell me what you think! Some of the beats are smooth though… NEXT CONTENDER STAND UP!
*Edit 12/18: Well, apparently there was a mixup with the original file that got uploaded and Marvol has come to clear his name. You all may want to download this one again and check it out for yourselves. I’m gonna grab it and let you know what I think later. The beats were hot on this one and it was a nice concept. I hope this corrected version is the MARVOLOUS RETURN!
