I know a lot of you all are gonna look at the cover and be like WTF, but give this one a chance. This is American Gangster 80’s Style and comes from J. Brookinz from Indianapolis, Indiana.
When dude hit me up on MySpace, I saw the concept and shook my head, then I gave it a listen and homie did his thing! It’s alright! They’re not straight mash-ups, in fact some of the beats are pretty creative. Some of the familiar samples I noticed off the bat are Prince’s “Darling Nikki” “Beautiful Ones” on “Party Life” and Taco’s “Puttin’ On The Ritz” for “Roc Boys”.
But yeah, check this one out. It’s a fun remix album done right. If nothing else it should bring back some memories!

what… you dont like the cover… man… other than the ol’blue eyes one it’s the only profesional looking cover up there. you hurt me with that one.

Doh! You’re right, and I knew that, typo on my part. But no, you misunderstood me. The cover is awesome, just my initial reaction was that it looked cartoonish. It definitely is a professional job!
…for u to put down all these other fine covers and say that this cover is even in the same league as the sinatra cover is comedy…
i really dont wanna burst any bubbles…or hurt any feelings… but this cover is not “professional” like u claim…. when ya get up close…the cuts are horrible…the effects used are childs play to any true designer…and the kearning of the text is ASS

for the record: 1.I am only the designer. any hate directed toward the music you have to take up with J.Brookinz. 2.this is not the album cover (it’s close) it’s a myspace avatar. 3.i never meant to offend any of the other designs- theres a hand full of dope ones, i was just trying to figure out what kevin was saying. i even said “kevin you hurt me with that one” (words of a humble man) /// and last 4. chris is lame, with way to much time on his hands- come on searching to find the image i used for the design, then adding the link! come on man- help your mom with the dishes- take out the trash for dad- do something… the internet is fun HOWEVER sometimes you have to turn that computer off and take a walk outside. seriously help you parents out around the house more.
I think the mix is alright, the beats are good but the whole “80s thing” is kind of lame. I mean, most good albums contain heavy samples from the 60s or 70s but they don’t claim to be 60 or 70s style.
The beats are good, and most of them are flipped well enough to not even sound like any corny 80s shit.
The cover is alright, nothing ultra impressive but its pretty cool. More focus should be put on the tunes though.

Wow, there’s way too much hating going on in this board. New hobbies are in order. The design scheme seems to be kosher in my eyes. Any “Self-Proclaimed Designer” I’m sure could spend hours trying to pick it apart, but what’s really the point? That’s like when an MC bumps a new album and hates on a song because he didn’t come up w/ the concept first. It is what it is. As for the album, I liked it, sent it to friends all across the atlas and have gotten positive feedback. In the end, if you think this is such a bad project, make a new album and cover and lets have a vote to see who wins.
