Attention all Beatmakers / DJs / Producers / Remixers!
We are almost a month into 2008 and these American Gangster remixes are getting old. It’s time to start something new! If there’s one thing that I learned from listening to all those American Gangster remix albums, it’s that there is a ton of talent out there. My thing is… I wanna hear your beats over somebody other than Jay.
So here’s the deal… for the next 12 weeks, we’re gonna hold a weekly contest… 12 weeks/12 mixes. The way it’ll work is every Saturday night I will provide the song to be remixed for the week. There will be 2 links… the acapella and the song in it’s original version (for reference). You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 11:59pm EST the following Saturday. Then on Sunday morning we’ll have a new poll on the blog for people to vote for their favorite mix. Voting will take place for one week while the next mix is underway. At the end of the 12 weeks, I’ll put together a compilation album of all the winners for each week with a kick ass cover designed by Krome. Sound cool? I know some people are gonna be like, “what’s the prize?”. The prize is inclusion on the compilation album and exposure on this site. I got nothing else to offer.
To submit your entry: Upload your remix to one of your favorite file sharing locations (ie, Rapidshare, MediaFire, MegaUpload, ZShare, etc) and leave a comment in this post with your name and your link. DO NOT email me any links… they will be ignored. This process is to make it easier for me so I don’t have to post everyone’s links. The production is open ended (for now), meaning there are no stipulations. Original productions are highly encouraged, but blends will be accepted as well.
Ok, so are you ready? Of course, we couldn’t have just a bunch of random songs put together on a compilation… we gotta have a theme. So the theme for the next 12 weeks is my favorite city in the world… New York. All the tracks that will be in each week’s contest for the next 12 weeks will be from an artist from New York or a track about New York. Obviously, some tracks are not available in acapella form, so tracks will be chosen based on what I can find. To kick things off for the contest this week is Cam’ron’s “Welcome To New York City (featuring Jay-Z)”. This song is off Cam’ron’s 2002 album Come Home With Me and was originally produced by Just Blaze. Below are the tracks to download and good luck!
