Wow, I can’t believe we’re into Week 4 already! Once again, congratulations to Johnny Street, who won the WEEK 2 contest with his version of Busta Rhymes’ “New York Shit”. Before I get into this week’s track, let’s recap the details of the contest.
So here’s the deal… for the next 12 weeks, we’re gonna hold a weekly contest… 12 weeks/12 mixes. The way it’ll work is every Saturday night I will provide the song to be remixed for the week. There will be 2 links… the acapella and the song in it’s original version (for reference). You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 11:59pm EST the following Saturday. Then on Sunday morning we’ll have a new poll on the blog for people to vote for their favorite mix. Voting will take place for one week while the next mix is underway. At the end of the 12 weeks, I’ll put together a compilation album of all the winners for each week with a kick ass cover designed by Krome. Sound cool? I know some people are gonna be like, “what’s the prize?”. The prize is inclusion on the compilation album and exposure on this site. I got nothing else to offer.
To submit your entry: Upload your remix in mp3 format to one of your favorite file sharing locations (ie, Rapidshare, MediaFire, MegaUpload, ZShare, etc) and leave a comment in this post with your name and your link. Some readers have requested the contestants use ZShare. So if you can, upload to ZShare. DO NOT email me any links… they will be ignored. This process is to make it easier for me so I don’t have to post everyone’s links. The production is open ended (for now), meaning there are no stipulations. Original productions are highly encouraged, but blends will be accepted as well.
Now for this week’s track. Since we’ve been working a lot with 100dBs on the site lately, with the interview, the review of his album with Ryan O’Neil, and the samples contest; I thought it’d be a great idea to have you guys remix one of his tracks. 100dBs, who hails from New York, did a song called “NYC Burn” with Ryan O’Neil for their album The Adventures of the One Hand Bandit & The Computer Slum Wizard. He was kind enough to offer up the acapella for “NYC Burn”. This track is a lot of fun and was produced, of course, by 100dBs. He visits the blog frequently, so make sure you step your game up. Below are the tracks to download and good luck!
The cut-off to submit your remix is Saturday, February 23, 2008 @ 11:59pm EST.
