Madlib is notorious for NOT using a computer to make beats.. Nor does he carry a cell phone.. He's just that kinda dude. The chances it was him are very slim.

Yes, Quasimoto and Madlib ARE the same person.. That is a fact.
He (Quasimoto) does refer to Madlib (Quasimoto) in the third person.. That does not mean it was him. More likely the label rep thought.. "Hey, maybe if this guy thinks Quasimoto's actually writing him, he'll listen."

it's a fact

my old manager [ciara] used to work at nu gruv records she shot me some madlib white labels [12" & 7"]& told me it was an experimental concept he had came up with.
this was years ago.

Hey, I have no idea what this is about, but your page is dope as hell. In a XXL article from about 3 years ago, Madlib revealed that he and Quasimoto were one in the same. DOn't know if this helps at all, but that's what Madlib said in XXL.

now that i see the actual message, i dont think there is anything wrong with their request

i think the persons who were offended misunderstood

the message was brief but from what i can tell dude understands what youre trying to do and isnt knockin it

he just doesnt want it to implicate or incriminate him, or anyother artist involved
because in the end that would be wack for the artists, the fans, and everyone in between

i like sample sets, i love hip hop and i love music in general...so these sample sets are amazing to me. i wish it wasnt an issue but whats so hard about complying with dude?

he even said he would be fine if you kept the samples up but without any references to the artists.

I actually take back my initial comment, which was something like "Lame." Considering the fact that madlib may not have cleared his samples, I understad completely wanting to cover his ass, or stones throw for that matter. The last thing I would want is for some p2p chasing lawyer to take stones and madlib out in a petty lawsuit...so, props to madlip and props to stones throw and props to Kev for being the only one here who had his head on tight enought to get what was going on to begin with. Right on bro, your work for hip hip deserves much praise.

Yeah, who ever it was, it really doesn't matter. I agree with Peter though; the discussion itself was great and is a very relevant subject. Thanks for the article John!

"..the issue quickly turned into a Madlib-bashing party." - exactly. That's unfortunate.

But, I don't think the discussion on its own merit has gotten "out of hand." Perhaps because Madlib/Quas's name(s) were tagged as the source, it touched a nerve in some readers. Regardless of the source, it's a very relevant discussion topic.

Just continue to post sample sets of albums that already had the samples cleared. It probably was a label rep who sent that message.

Especially if it says the person has worked with Madlib and MF Doom for 8 years and the album was written on his back porch while eating grilled cheese sandwiches and sippin' on Kool-Aid.

Lets just respect stones throws or madlib's wishes and keep the sample sets coming. Beanie Sigel, AZ, Mobb Deep, and more Ghostface would make great sample sets.

what is all the fuss about, stop hating yall- it was probably from Peanut Butter Wolf- why is this getting blown out of proportion, is there no other news? no need to bash Madlib or Stones Throw, they are only putting out great music and trying to protect their asses from being sued for uncleared samples

stop trying to incite something by being irrational, geez
