Fishscale: Original Samples

Yeah, I figured I’d hit you guys with one more sample set before I head out on vacation. Many thanks to Thomas again for hookin’ this one up! At 29 samples, this set is a Killah! And, you know, I see why people have been requesting these Ghostface samples… these are some really good soul music! We’re definitely gonna go through the rest of his discography.

Fishscale is the fifth studio album from Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah. Released on March 28, 2006, Fishscale won positive reviews from both critics and fans. The name Fishscale refers to uncut cocaine and the album follows a similar theme. Production on the album relies heavily on soul samples and includes tracks from Just Blaze, Pete Rock, J Dilla, and MF Doom. The Dilla beats were taken off Dilla’s Donuts album and the MF Doom cuts were borrowed from Doom’s Special Herbs series.

Thomas: Which Brother to Brother track?

  • Thomas

Chance to be with you or chance with you

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Kevin

Yo, thanks Ivan…. ah, sorry Thomas, I totally forgot to include the Brother To Brother track in the credits. Which song samples that again?

  • Thomas

    Bad mouth kid (skit)

  • http://goondancing.blogspot.com Goon

I managed to rip the Brother to Brother song off Imeen. Here’s a zshare link http://www.zshare.net/audio/9581432106b7e2

  • http://goondancing.blogspot.com Goon

On further listen, the song I posted is definitely the Brother to Brother song “Chance with you” but I’m also pretty sure it’s not the song heard in the background of “Bad mouth Kid”. However it sound’s like the same singer so my best guess is that (as often happens) the song samples a song from the same album as “chance with you” but the person in charge of clearing the sample messed up with the title.

    you the best maaaaan!!!

  • Thomas

That is what happened with two of the other samples in this set: Freda Payne and the Jack McDuff. The credits (in the CD) list the wrong songs sampled. If you can find the correct brother to brother song that will be great.

    Thanks

It’s a Brother To Brother song called Vibrations. I’m searching for it now, so if anyone already has it just post it.

  • Marcha

    I Don’t have this track “charlie brown”…
Nice vacation kev, this is one of my favorites hip-hop albums ever…

  • http://goondancing.blogspot.com Goon

Still can’t find “vibrations”…IIRC They couldn’t clear the Caetano Veloso sample so they scraped “Charlie Brown” from the original album but it’s pretty easy to find on the internet.
