Last week to submit a remix for your chance to get in on the mixtape! This was a fun ride; we’re definitely gonna do it again soon.
Before we get to this week’s track, let’s run back over the preliminaries. Here’s the deal… for 12 weeks, we’re gonna hold a weekly contest… 12 weeks/12 mixes. The way it’ll work is every Saturday night I will provide the song to be remixed for the week. There will be 2 links… the acapella and the song in it’s original version (for reference). You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 11:59pm EDT the following Saturday. Then on Sunday morning we’ll have a new poll on the blog for people to vote for their favorite mix. Voting will take place for one week while the next mix is underway. At the end of the 12 weeks, I’ll put together a compilation album of all the winners for each week with a kick ass cover designed by Krome. Sound cool? I know some people are gonna be like, “what’s the prize?”. The prize is inclusion on the compilation album and exposure on this site. I got nothing else to offer.
To submit your entry: Upload your remix in mp3 format to one of your favorite file sharing locations (ie, Rapidshare, MediaFire, MegaUpload, ZShare, etc) and leave a comment in this post with your name and your link. Some readers have requested the contestants use ZShare. So if you can, upload to ZShare. DO NOT email me any links… they will be ignored. This process is to make it easier for me so I don’t have to post everyone’s links. The production is open ended (for now), meaning there are no stipulations. Original productions are highly encouraged, but blends will be accepted as well.
Alright, for the final remix of the contest, we’re taking it back to the inspiration behind this remix contest… Jay-Z. How could we have a New York remix contest without the Jiggaman anyway? Of course we can’t have you guys remix any of the American Gangster or Black Album tracks. I thought about throwing up a Blueprint track, but the production on those songs are too perfect to remix. So I wanted to take it way back… back to Reasonable Doubt. “Brooklyn’s Finest” was my original (obvious) choice, but I couldn’t track down a good quality acapella. That’s the same reason we didn’t get a chance to remix Biggie. Anyway, let’s see how you all do with “Can’t Knock The Hustle“. Featuring Mary J Blige on the hook, “Can’t Knock The Hustle” was produced by The Hitmen’s Knobody, Dahoud Darien, and Sean Cane. Below are the tracks to download and good luck!
The cut-off to submit your remix is Saturday, May 3, 2008 @ 11:59pm EDT.
