Did Dr. Dre Sample George Michael?

While diggin’ around on the web last night, my man Thomas came across something interesting over at the-breaks.com. A digger by the name of claims that Dr. Dre sampled George Michael‘s “Careless Whisper” for the 50 Cent hit “In Da Club”. Personally, I don’t hear it. However, SubBeeCoop posted this on the-breaks back in July 2006 and no one in the thread has yet to call his bluff.

I wanted to put the two tracks up here and see what you all think. Like I said, I don’t hear it and Thomas doesn’t hear it either. But that doesn’t mean it’s not possible. Dr. Dre is one hell of a producer and a lot of his samples are obscure. Listen to the tracks below and tell us what you think…

50 Cent: “In Da Club”

George Michael: “Careless Whisper”

I don’t know about In Da Club, but I know that’s the sample from Elzhi’s joint Keep On.

nope…don’t hear nothing similar at all.

  • Jay730

    i cant hear it

Well I’m glad I’m not the only one!

  • Cinematic Beats

he had to speed up the sample or he used the MIDI & took that one guitar part. the guitar sounds like the same melody as the strings light-weight

  • Tuche

i believe e used (not a sample from Careless Whisper) but Careless Whisper’s flow and the bass [not the entire bass-line, because probably Dre just used it in the first kick drums (damn, dont kno how to explain)], but i believe he used the bass!

listen carefully to the bass and the pads from Whisper chorus and try to aproximate it to In Da Club!

anyway, great beat by Dre, and great song by Micheal… thats my word!

  • Tuche

waiting for comments about mine too!

hmmm… both interested theories from Cinematic and Tuche! I think it is possible, but you gotta keep an open mind to hear it. I was thinking more along the same lines as Cinematic.

Diplo did a cool song using the careless whisper sample

Hell no!, Same instruments at best but nowhere close to a sample. Dre’s Dope aiight accept it.

Nah, it’s not that sample, I heard it once, thugh, it was from an indian track or something…

yeah, I guess we can just label this post as a WTF…

its a simple ass melody/chord prog – it could be possible that dre (or his many musicians) came up with it by themselves. It’s funny when diggers think something original is a sample – you see it on the-breaks all the time, some new kid coming on there asking what the sample is for Usher’s “Yeah” or something ha.

Yeah, I never actually thought “In Da Club” contained a sample of anything. That’s why the statement caught me off guard initially.

Didn’t you know “Yeah” samples Prince’s “1999″?!?!?! LMAO

  • Thomas

I was “tricked” or “suckered” (if that’s a word). It seems that Wham’s “Careless Whispher” is the sample used for all mystery sample. My bad for the confusion.

Dre sampled George Michael’s “never gonna dance again” on “Time” feat. AZ Nature And Nas…look it up.

wow, how did this old thread get active again?

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Kevin

Looks like some duds over at the-breaks are having a laugh at us. This is an old thread guys, and was posted as shock value much in the same way your original thread was. Sup… I see you….
