No More Mr. Nice Guy: Original Samples

Another Sunday, another Gang Starr sample set. This time, we’re taking it back to their debut album, No More Mr. Nice Guy. Released in 1989, this album wasn’t the most successful for DJ Premier and Guru, but it was still hot nonetheless. In 2003, No More Mr. Nice Guy was re-issued with a few bonus tracks. We’ve included those samples here as well.

Before we get onto the tracklist, let me formally congratulate Tuche for winning last week’s remix contest with his remix to Jay-Z’s “Can’t Knock The Hustle.” We’re gonna be compiling the winners from all 12 weeks of the contest, along with a few of my favorite picks, and compiling them into a mixtape for widest distribution. So look for that in the coming weeks. And this won’t be the end of the remixes either… we’ll kick off our second remix contest sometime before the end of the month!

Ok, let’s get back to these samples. Sharebee is acting up so I’ll put these on Rapidshare and Megaupload.

4 Thomas May 11, 2008 at 8:35 pm

My count is 97 with this one and Alex’s Fat Joe sets (assuming they are counted as one). John has 2 to release and then….

Damn son. I might have to go back to rocking a hi top fade for this one. Dopeness pure Dopeness.

Yo whats up with a Rza “birth of a prince” sample set? (real talk i wanna hear what “the grunge” was sampled from)

As far as the next contest i think remixing somebody’s album would be ill. If you can get the Raekwon “Immobilarity” vocals that would be sick.

Peace

LMAO @ Tokyo! Yeah, we’ll look into the RZA set.

I thought about doing a remix contest if a whole album, but those acapellas are hard to come by. I might be able to hook that up for an underground artist though…

Kev: good idea like the thought of an underground artist remix album thingy thangy :P peace!

No doubt Kev. Good looking out on analyzing that Rza joint.

An underground artist album would be mad cool to lace.

By the way that Spectac and 9th wonder joint is hellfire hot. ( nice interview too ) Nothing warms the heart like hearing a fly filtered bassline laced with chunky drums and ill loops.

peace

I think Gusto was done by DJ Mark the 45 King, not Premo.

11 Kevin May 13, 2008 at 11:30 am

For real? Thanks for setting that straight Josh!
