Kanye West & Common Redman & Method Man

Kanye West, Common, Redman, Method Man and their record companies were sued yesterday (May 22) by late U.S. jazz musician Joe Farrell‘s daughter, who accused them of using her father’s music without approval.

The lawsuit said all the rappers used portions of Farrell’s 1974 musical composition “Upon This Rock” in three separate songs — West in “Gone,” Common in “Chi-City” and Method Man and Redman in their song “Run 4 Cover.”

Firrantello is seeking punitive damages of at least $1 million and asked that no further copies of the songs be made, sold or performed, according to the lawsuit.

I’m currently digging for the Joe Farrell track and I’ll get it up on the site and soon as I can so that we discect and compare it with the tracks in question. More on this to follow.

Yeah, Black Sheep and ATCQ… maybe we should get a list together for Ms. Ferrell. Nah, we should be working with the artists, not against them. I kinda feel the same way deez does.

That track you put up here, BGeezie… is that the full song? I realize you got it from the same ATCQ set that I posted months ago, but it’s not that long and I wonder if it’s just a snippet. Cuz I don’t really hear the sample played in any of those tracks. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

yeah but shes never heard of black sheep so they aint gonna get sued unless someone tells her.

she could’ve asked for what she wouldve been owed for the samples & a minor percentage of what each of the albums sell in future.no doubt all those boys are still getting a little bank from the albums the tracks appear on.

it would be intersting to know if she wouldve done the same if a non hip ohp artist would get the same treatment
