What’s On My iPod? vol. 1

New series here on the site! I think a lot of you will like these posts. Inspired by 2DopeBoyz’s “What’s In The Tape Deck” series, I thought it was time to share my current favorite tracks with you all. I know we all have different tastes in music, even if it’s all hip hop… there are different flavors. So I’ve called upon my fellow This Is Hip Hop fam to check out what’s playing on their iPods as well! That’s right… instead of this being a weekly or monthly post by me, my partners (Thomas, Krome, Carsten, and Deez) are gonna stop in and share their playlists as well. Should prove to be some great mixes! The cool thing is that we’re not just gonna throw you the latest tracks (of course, there will be some of them too), but you might hear some old school, new school, soul, or R&B. Depends on what we’re feeling at the moment. So you can listen to my playlist on the iPod above (courtesy of flashwidgetz.com) or just jump down and download the whole set!

Yo, I was gonna do a little commentary on each track, but I just wanted to fuckin’ post it already… lol

Just a few alibi’s… NYOil; my man Speek turned me onto him — he gon’ blow up. Trav; that’s my fav track from his super dope album. J-Live, eMC; you all GOT to check those albums. Donny Goines; yup that’s the Remot produced track — my fav. The Roots; yeah, I dig the go-go beat… Wale made that track hot. Soulklap; another hot indie album ya’ll need to check. New Busta-Bus remix… dope. Lollip Remix; Kanye kills it. Kidz In The Hall; another hot new album. Flashing Lights Remix; my man Kells turns gold into platinum. Lupe & CL; hot remix. Wale; can’t stop listening to his shit! New LB; dope, of course! Tudakay; you all need to listen to this new cat. NERD; Kanye kills the remix again.

But yeah Deez, thanks for turning me onto Wale. Watch out for the This Is Hip Hop Wale Mixtape, coming soon!

Since I’m still not totally digital (I still listen to and buy CD’s) my list should be what’s in my ipod/cd player.

Deez I’m feeling that Wale, but I need individual tracks…the mixtape I have is one file. The Kramer joint is off the hook. I’ll add him on the next joint.

yeah man, we could give you a CD player instead of an ipod.. lol. Check the link for the Wale mixtape at the right under hot downloads. That’s broken up into separate tracks.

And you all have to check the forum for the new Biggie tape Krome posted… March 9th v2… dopeness

Taking the idea of sharing what you’re listening to another step further, you could expand on this idea and incorporate a last.fm feed/display on your site.
You could use the “weekly top artists” list, which will display the top 10 artists you’ve been listening to for the past week. Then, you could continue this “What’s on my ipod” series, which would expand (or completely depart) from the last.fm feed.
See, at times, you’ll be surprised by what shows up in your last.fm charts – there will be things that you’re listening to a lot but not really feeling as much as others, or things that you’re not listening to much but you really love… So the two – the chart & the ‘what’s on my ipod’ series – would mesh well together.

I don’t get a chance? :(

Great new feature Kev, some hot choices in there – particularly Trav Williams and the Donny Goines track; classic stuff!
Look forward to more in the series!
Peace.

Jimbalaya…. yeah I have a last.fm account and I used to have it posted in my sidebar, but as I started listening more to new underground artists, last.fm doesn’t have them in their database so nothing would show up. Good idea though… last.fm would be great if they opened up their database to the people, but apparently record labels have to submit artists and albums. I remember when Talib’s Ear Drum came out, I was constantly bumpin’ that and it never showed up in last.fm.

SmokeYYY, I mos def wanted you to be a part of this, but you’re not getting any of my emails. We gotta figure out what going on with that so we can get you more involved on the team. Are my emails going to your spam box maybe?

12 smokeYYY June 13, 2008 at 8:12 am

No they’re not in the spam box, however I emailed Hotmail about the problem, unsure if I’ll get a reply.

Anyhow, I have an idea, try sending an email to my smokeYYY@thatrealish.com‘ email address.
