Yeah I know this is a shameless plug, but it’s my web site dammit! I sat down a couple of months ago with emcee /journalist Cee-For for an interview; not on Cee, but on ME. I know, weird huh? Anyway, the article turned out great and was posted this morning on GrooveOn.com.au, an Australian Urban Culture Online Magazine. Just wanted to share it with my hip hop fam here. Thanks Cee, this was a great anniversary present for the site! We’ll be returning the favor soon as Cee & Bekah will be releasing a new mixtape at the end of the summer. Here’s an excerpt from the article…

Oftentimes, journo’s are some of the most despised people on the planet, after politicians, terrorists and people who voluntarily wear Crocs. But, music journalists rarely fit into this mould – and it’s few and far between when the people actually get to hear their story. Kevin Nottingham, a journo/blogger out of Virginia Beach, VA but now residing in Miami, Florida, has been into Hip Hop for well over two decades now, and does his thing to support the scene via his website/blog ‘This Is Hip Hop’. Kevin is known worldwide for his blog, and for supporting up and coming artists and musicians in every way he can. GrooveOn caught up with the man himself to chat about his blog, his famous classmates and his hustle.

Cool interview Kev, it’s nice to have a celebrity running the board! lol.
I think I speak for every user of the blog/forum when I say please keep doing what you’re doing as the positive impact is spreading globally and you’re doing a great job.

Thanks Will… much appreciated. Just want to point out something from the article… the pic of me blogging with my daughter in my lap… she was listening to some of the remixes from the first contest. She’s been exposed to hip hop since she was in my wife’s womb, so she know what she like and what she don’t like… LOL

Great interview Kev! We all appreciate the exposure and attention that your website has given all of us, and your love of the art clearly shows in your efforts!

I didn’t know that you were originally from VA…I lived in MD on the border of DC for almost 25 years, so it’s cool you were exposed to the D.C. tri-state scene too (probably explains why I like pretty much ALL of what you highlight!)…Ever listen to D.C. Go-go?

Tokyo and I used to produce together for years until I moved out west. Not only has your site given me an opportunity to enjoy my craft again, but it has allowed us to share our music together in a way we couldn’t have after I moved, so I thank you eternally for that. Much love.

I think this is the first time I looked at this set. The Bob James song comes from his 1978 Touchdown album or something like that….I’ve seen it. I’ll try to track it down and the Peter brown song as well.

  • Deez
