Our second sample stipulation in the contest proved once again that I could give you guys Barry Manillow and you’d flip the hell out of it! It was really nice to hear these Stevie Wonder tracks flipped though; it was a real fun week to listen to.
Before we get to our picks and the winner, let me introduce you to the guest judge for this week… QueR!CO. QueR!CO is a producer out of Tennessee and was a consistent remixers in our first remix contest. He’s got bigger things going on right now, so he hasn’t been able to join us for the second contest. But I was proud when he accepted my invitation to guest judge. Here’s what he had to say…
QueR!CO:
Well, I reviewed all these remixes. i gotta say i was really stuck between the remixes from Abstrakt Soundz, Jack Nickelz, & MoFuWalters. I REALLY enjoyed their joints. those were the ones that impressed me the most.
I eventually went with Abstrakt Soundz. I can’t believe he doesn’t have that many votes on the site. I really thought that remix was sick. that’s just my opinion. but i have to admit that Jack Nickelz’s remix was FRESH as well.
1. Abstrakt Soundz……. this producer has that heat !! i like the simplicity in this one. something about how they arranged this made me groove to this. that vocal sample in the background is bad-ass. it’s funky, real upbeat, & it’s a jam. yet the acapella sounds so good over this. it’s most definitely got that ol’ school feel to it. i would love to hear a deejay spin this remix @ the club !!
2. Jack Nickelz…. real soulful, NICE idea with the intro, everything seemed to fit to me. it had me bobbin’ my head to the beat until the song was over. only thing is that i wish that original chorus would be there instead the vocal sample. but it’s STILL DOPE !!
3. MoFuWalters….. i really liked the vibe to this. i liked how it was flipped. it was unique (and i mean that in a good way !!). imo, the only thing i felt was missing was the beat breaking down. i would’ve liked to hear that with this dope beat.
4. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. —— this was cool to me. i liked how they chopped the samples. i think the transitions between the chorus section & verses should’ve been done a little better. it just felt like i was listening to 3 different songs. i think it could’ve been pulled off a little bit better. MAYBE they should’ve just used the loop for the 1st verse for the rest of the verses. but i can appreciate the effort to make it unique.

Kevin:This week was tough for me…. I immediately took notice of the one that used my favorite Stevie tracks and realized that wasn’t fair. So I think I went more with the ones that kept that summer feeling that I loved so much initially with the original Skee-Lo track. Of course, I had to break out a top 10. Here’s who I was feeling…
10. BLINKY – dude, you always flip that crazy vibe… this was tight… love the drums… that live vibe.
09. Keyz Fargo – this one had a different vibe, but I liked it… very original… keep bringing it Keyz!
08. Dutchmasters – damn, that beat knocks! I’ve always liked your production style… you did yours with this one!
07. DJ Mike Deck – reminded me of S.T.T.R.E.S.S.’s mix at first with the sample, but you made the whole track work with the one sample… sounds good!
06. Manz – yeah this was cool… a different vibe, but cool
05. Tommylux – this track was fun… def had that summer feel to it!
04. G.C. – man, you raise the bar each and every week! This beat is super super dope!
03. Jack Nickelz – dude, you caught my attention right away with the Eddie intro, but then your track was extremely dope! Many props!
02. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – you definitely had me with this track, since you used all my fav Stevie tracks. You know I like the beat switch, so I was really feeling this one. And you kept the chorus consistent. Third verse was the best!
01. Abstrakt Soundz – yo, this mix is just fresh-to-def! Love the old school Stevie intro and then the beat just knock hard!
Congratulations Abstrakt Soundz!
