This Is Hip Hop Remix Contest Part II: Week 8

This week was originally gonna be another sample stipulation week, but I changed my mind; we’ll hold that off for another time.  I think some people may be getting burned out with all the 90s classics we’ve been throwing at you, so  I want everyone to have some fun this week.  Well get to the track in a minute, but let’s switch things up a bit.

The one thing I’ve noticed in the comments week after week is the commoradory between all the contestants.  The tips, the comments, and just all the luv.  You guys are all great sports.  After 7 weeks of remixing I think most of you have gotten the chance to know each other real well.  So this week, we’re doing a TAG TEAM remix!  That’s right, grab a partner… I don’t care how you do it or who does what, but each remix for this week will be a collaboration of effort between two remixers.  And with that said, let’s get on with the track.

The Rules

This Week’s Track

Originally when I came up with the Tag Team idea, I thought the perfect song to remix would be Tag Team’s “Whoomp! There It Is”.  But I knew a lot of people would hate me for that… LOL.  I still wanted to keep things loose and fun this week, so I went back and brought out the one group in the 90s that was just a lot of fun for me…. Naughty By Nature.  Unfortunately, I was unable to find any acapellas from their early 90s repotaire, but I did come acroos their 1999 comeback hit “Jamboree“.  Even though it came out in ‘99, it was still classic Naughty By Nature.  Have fun with this one… we’re looking for a real party track right here.  And don’t forget to grab a partnerNo solo remixes will be accepted this week!!

The cut-off to submit your remix is
Sunday, July 27, 2008 @ 3:00pm EDT

Woah, Isbjerg & Phurcat, that sounds like an awesome collaboration to me, guys! I am really looking forward to this one.
Unfortunately I still have some exams to take but hopefully I can join the 90s RMX contest in one or two weeks. If that would still make any sense…

Best regards from Germany

Dope idea Kevin, I’m excited to see what comes of this. Also, for the last couple weeks- could we switch up the tempo of the tracks. A lot of midtempo jams, how about some slower or faster tracks? Peace.

15 Kevin July 21, 2008 at 9:41 pm

Thanks DutchMasters, I’ll keep that in mind.

Cancel that submission, automation is off. Actual submission coming soon….

25 G.C. July 24, 2008 at 12:29 am

Still getting comfy with FL8…it’s a different automation system than what I’m used to…I just tweaked it and the fade is only at the end now. Enjoy!

http://www.zshare.net/audio/158571689fb1c5e7/

Again, here’s the breakdown:
G.C. – Main sample, sequencing, bass
D.J. Mike Deck – Drums, sequencing, scratching

26 Beatstreet July 24, 2008 at 12:27 pm

GC/MD mix is sick. GC, what is the sample that you used?

27 G.C. July 24, 2008 at 12:40 pm

Blue Magic – “Just Don’t Wanna Be Lonely” was the sample. Thanks for the love Beat!

We had a lot of fun working on this, and even though the time zone difference and schedule conflicts were a hurdle to get over, it was a ton of fun and I now have a new partner to collab with on future projects! Thanks again Kev for the great idea!

28 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 24, 2008 at 5:57 pm

YO G.C. and Mike Deck,I see yall shining!!!

32 DutchMasters July 24, 2008 at 7:35 pm

Isberg, I’m really feeling the change up you guys threw in there. But that intro- Katt might be one of the funnier cats out there. Good stuff to you and Phurcat. Peace fellas.

33 G.C. July 24, 2008 at 10:08 pm

Black Tobacco (Dutch/Tokyo) – I really like the vibe you present! I recognize Tokyo’s production, still hitting that ill vibe I have loved for years. Also recognize some of Dutch’s signature drums, and the combination is tight! Nice collab!(BTW, EVERYONE needs to hear the Black Tobacco EP…the ish is straight FIRE!)

Isbjerg/Phurcat – LOL @ the intro! What?? The vibe of the first instrumental goes very well with the drums, and the switch-up mid track is really nice (heavy lean cadillac musik!)

34 Beatstreet July 25, 2008 at 12:49 am

I’m feeling the original tune Black Tobacco. Isb/Phur’s switch-up is excellent. What songs did you use “to pitch the change-up”?

35 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 25, 2008 at 1:26 am

What up fellas.Well this has been a very sleepless week.G.C.,you talk about time zone differences,HA,HA.Try collabing when you and your partner are in a 10hr difference. So with that I will say,Good Afternoon OneMic.It was a eventful experience and will definitely do it again. Thanks Kev.You’ve helped us more than you know.WE ARE THE WORLD,WE ARE THE ha,ha,ha.Anyway,i’ll give you run down, then on with the show.Thanx partner,we will do this again soon!

Hell yeah, S.T.T.R.E.S.S. I wasn’t so sure about this collabo thing at first, but in hindsight it was a lot of fun! It’s been a pleasure working with you as much as it’s been a lot of fun competing with so many talented people. Damn, see what you started with that “we are the world,…” shit? :) One-

37 G.C. July 25, 2008 at 2:18 am

41 Tokyo Cigar July 25, 2008 at 1:39 pm

Ayo GC and Mike. Thoro beat. The cuts were crazy as well. Good looking out on the Love for real.

Ayo GC one of my favorite collabos of all time is still when you and me laced that Flux capacitor track. Then we went in on that beat with Gary ( i still remember that line you kicked “electromagnetic shield deflect/ stimulated light atoms that pierce through the flesh/” )

YO Dutch as always YOU ARE THAT DUDE. Crazy collabo.

I’m bout to download the rest of these and check em out.

42 Dj Mike Deck July 25, 2008 at 2:00 pm

Yo hearing good stuff from the collabos!…thanks for all the love, glad u guys like it. GC was really easy to work with, he knows his stufff for real!

43 DJ Atomik July 25, 2008 at 3:52 pm

44 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 25, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Whats good peeps.Still jetlagging Ha,Ha.Sorry I havent commented on the others. When I posted it was after 1am.But here it is.

Dutch & Tokyo- Yall did your thing with them dirty ass drums and the nasty mystical keys.Underground style.

Isbjerg & Phurcat-Feeling the flip in the flip.It went from dreamy to soulful. And the other joint, the beat was on some B-boy Breaking type vibe.good work. From now on,im naming yall the odd couple Ha,Ha.

and to the rest of the remixers,go head and tighten those joints up and beat the clock. Before the clock strikes 12 on sunday,I might have something for yall(Shut up OneMic HA,HA)
I,m out (for now)
Peace!

45 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 25, 2008 at 8:28 pm

Ove Love!

46 One Mic July 25, 2008 at 8:45 pm

http://www.zshare.net/audio/159749263527e4a0/

Yo S.T.T.R.E.S.S., thanks for the heads up. There’s an aggressive in Treach’s voice that you don’t get when the vocals are too low. And usually I’m trying to fight these acapellas to get them louder.

Kev, this is the new official for Tokyo and me.

48 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 25, 2008 at 10:00 pm

No problem Dutch anytime.

One Love on the real!!!!

49 Phurcat the Terrabl July 26, 2008 at 12:06 am

Word Up. It’s wild how it wored out. The odd couple, that shit’s funny!

50 Isbjerg July 26, 2008 at 2:03 am

I like that name… It reminds me of Pryor and Wilder, so I can live with that name. Phur U are the mayn -Anytime you wanna flip some samples or ideas, im in always..

S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – Main sample, sequencing, intro
G.C. – Drums, sequencing, automation

Enjoy!

55 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 27, 2008 at 1:28 pm

Whats good folks.First of all,I would like to thank Kev for allowing this to go down.I was faced with a large hurdle this week cause I didnt know if my first remix was gonna happen, but I was determine I wasnt gonna miss a week.So with Kev’s go ahead, plan b came into effect. After alot of sleepless nights, plan a ,finally came to light.Im really glad it did, because I made a connection that I normally wouldnt make and had fun under pressure. Thanks OneMic!So now plan b,turns into side b.If I was in a Toughman competition, then G.C. was in a Ironman Competition,Not only did he come off with 2 collabos, but had to move locations in the process.I will always be grateful to you, cause you were pushing for plan b for me,just as hard as I was. We got it done, and no matter what happens,I very happy with the results. So thank you again G.C. This saga will continue,so fellas keep your eyes open for this collabo. That goes back to what I was saying in week 7.Lets help each other to get to the next level. You can be helpful, and still compete against each other and I feel that was the whole motivation behind Kev’s stipulation this week. And to comment on 20 Keyz & Keenan remix-yours had a laid back, highway cruising vibe with what sounds like a Diane Ross sample.Good Work
One last word, anybody riding this train, its leaving the station in about a hr and a half.Get on board.

One Love!

56 Beatstreet July 27, 2008 at 3:04 pm

GC/Sttress, you guys killed that mix. Nice use of George Benson’s Give Me The Night.

57 Tokyo Cigar July 27, 2008 at 3:10 pm

Yo phurcat and isbjerg Yo the first part of this joint is straight 95 club banger. de la and tribe would kill that beat. Sick intro and cool switch up too. The kid is doing the two step to it right now.

s.t.t.r.e.s.s. both collabos were fly. But i think the GC collab you did was better. it had that chilling at a block party with tha plastic cup in your hand vibe. hard drums courtesy of my man GC kept the head on nod mode. ILL Collab

My favorite joint is the 20 keys and keenan joint. The sample was just too damn sexy. The drums and mixdown knocked ridiculously. it was a perfect mix of smoothness and hardness. This joint was worthy of Jewlez by OC. Mature but dirty at the same time. Yall need to get that beat to someone to spit on for real.

Good looking out to cats who showed love to the collab i did with Dutch. Yo GC good looking out again for bigging up the Black tobacco EP.

Kevin thanks for the collabo idea. ( and also for not picking the whoomp! there it is track to have us remix )

58 G.C. July 27, 2008 at 3:26 pm

I appreciate the kind words S.T.T.R.E.S.S., as you know it has been Q.U. HECTIC around here with the move and all. It was another fun collab and I look forward to our project in the future!

Thanks for the love O, seriously the Black Tobacco EP needs to be heard for real.

One!

59 S.T.T.R.E.S.S. July 27, 2008 at 3:47 pm

Thanks to Beatstreet and Tokyo for the words and thanks again to G.C.,it was an easy collab,I guess that happens with good chemistry.

One!
