This Is Hip Hop Remix Contest Part II: Week 10

We’re getting close to the end… only 3 weeks left!  I’m feeling a little under the weather today, but I’ll try my hardest to get everything up for the contest today.  Just so you guys aren’t waiting around, here’s the track to remix this week.

Oh, one more thing… we got a sponser to give the winner a prize.  The winner for this week will win a t-shirt from Top 5 MC’s.  These t-shirts are pretty hot, and I’ll be doing a full write up on the details soon.

The Rules

This Week’s Track

You know we couldn’t do a remix contest without throwing in a track from Jay-Z.  Of course, the obvious choice would be to pick something from Reasonable Doubt.  But we did that last contest.  This week I wanted to incorporate one of the most influential sounds from the late 90s.  And that would be from the innovator known as Timbaland.  This week you all will remix “Hey Papi”, one of my favorite tracks from Jay & Tim.  The stakes are high… let’s see what you can do!

The cut-off to submit your remix is
Sunday, August 10, 2008 @ 3:00pm EDT.

    Isbjerg – Totally agree w/ the Def Jukkies vibe! Nice touches in the background, really completes the beat!

    beatwunder – Love the orchestration of your chops! The percussion touches are nice too!

    Jack Nickels – Wow, unexpected but the background stabs really fit the “bounce”…the orchestration is beautiful, I haven’t seen GitS in forever! Thanks for the rewind!

    Some serious words from my side:

    From week to week I more and more realized, that I am maybe not “hiphop” enough to compete with all of you production pro’s. I tried, but it maybe didn’t work out…. (esp. for the jury, haha :) ).
    I’m more the mash-up type of “guy”, which you might realize, when hearing my Jay-Z-remix: There’s Easy-listening, New-Wave and other samples in it, which might be too “far out” for a hip-hop-related remix. Nevertheless I love most of the stuff over here (esp. G.C’s, Isbjerg’s, Jack Nickelz’s, Tokyo Cigar’s and many more) and I hope you give my tune a try. Feedback appreciated! Respect to Kev and everyone else over here. Hey – I won’t give up, can’t wait for the next song to be remixed! :)

    Beatwunder, slick piano loop- nice flip of the track.

    GC, dope as usual. The original pianos bits on the hook are a really nice touch. I might argue and say the track was better with the double time high hat, but that’s just me.

    SND, this might be one of my favorite samples I’ve ever heard. I could listen to this track on repeat.

    ill-mannered, I definitely respect your style. The beginning was a choppy for my liking, but it smoothed out nicely. You’re a digger for sure, and doing your own thing, which is very dope.

    Isbjerg: Very reduced, dark and futuristic sounding remix. Love the atmosphere you created through this, but maybe it lacks a bit of variation. This is not meant to be respectless, since I love your remixes so far, so please don’t feel offended!!!

    Beatwunder: Laid back. Nice piano sample!

    Jack Nickelz: Man, I LOVE this one. Awesome modern vibe! Maybe the best remix so far!

    G.C.: Makes me bounce!
    Cory Hall: Great bass! Deep!! Again a nice futuristic remix!

    Atlas: Haha! Funny sample you used. Fits the song :)

    SND: Another original usage of samples! Makes me grin!
    DutchMasters: Fantastic beat, perfect use of samples, powerful production. Love it!

    Ace Fadal: Uptempoing the vocals was a nice idea. Interesting great range of samples! Maybe you should upload it again with 320 kb/s for a better sounding quality.

    I probably going to sit this week out, but I’ve been listening to all the joints anyway. First off for me, Jack Nickelz owns this week so far. GITS sample (intro from the first season), that’s just great work. Dutchmasters, you’re the only other person so far who I think could win it too. You know I’m a digger, so I got to ask, what sample is that. It sounds like some music from a blaxploitation movie (am I close lol). Tommylux you killed it to with those sample switches too. I know at least one sample is David Ruffin’s Can We Make Love One More Time. As always everyones’ doing there thang thang.
