We’re getting close to the end and I know a lot of you have been waiting for some west coast tracks to remix. I’ve been impatiently waiting for this week to come along, cuz we have another sample stipulation. I know some of you are gonna have mixed views about the two artists I want you to put together, but I think it’s gonna work real well. Read below for the details…
This Week’s Track
This week we’re remixing the one and only 2Pac. Yeah, we couldn’t have a 90s remix contest without including some Pac! Deciding which track to remix took me some time, but I finally decided on Pac’s third single from his 1995 album Me Against The World… “Temptations“. The track was originally produced by Easy Moe Bee, but I want you to put your spin on it. But not without a little sample stipulation. The original track sampled, “Sing A Simple Song” and “Computer Love”. For your remix you will sample the purple majesty himself… Prince. That’s right, we’re putting this century’s greatest poet alongside our modern day Mozart. Prince has a huge library from the mid 70s to today and played everything from rock, pop, R&B, funk, and jazz. So the possiblities are endless. I’m a big Prince fan, so this week I’ll be taking a very personal interest in the remixes. Grab the “Temptations” tracks below and good luck!
The cut-off to submit your remix is
Sunday, August 17, 2008 @ 3:00pm EDT.

I am no Tupac fan, and I have never heard such a bad acapella… But I take the challenge, since Im a huge PrinceFan, and since I knew what to get from the Prince Collection, I give you :
The Artist formerly known as Tupac feat. Prince
Temptation Isbjerg remix

Had to include the guitar and make it Rick Rubin style… And I had to be quick, so I could be first with the idea… When Prince have a number called ‘Temptation’ its obvious that Im going for that..
Despite the bad vocal and the terrible chorus, I tried to make it happen…
i second not feeling the accapella
kept it ultra simple

Is this acappella that bad? Is it the quality of the acapella or just the track that you all are not feeling? I don’t remember the quality being that bad.
Tupac is a bit loud on some points and the choir is horrible… The song itself is average ( Im no Tupac fan ) but the drunk friends of Tupac have a lack of skills…
Anotha topic : Round the remix competition of with Isaac Hayes stipulation… Great idea Kev, imma even top that and put Bernie Mac in that mix…
Whats up beat fiends and Kev.This acapella for this week was a slight challenge, but like i said at about week 2 or 3,i love a challenge! As a producer/beatmaker,sometimes you have to adjust to that certain situation and we gotta try our best to make it right. So Kev,its not that the quality of the acapella was bad,but it seem to be the quality of the recording that was bad.If you listen to the 3rd verse chorus and how it comes blaring out,but 2pac’s vocals are low during the chorus,is how i came to that conclusion. So the vocals and the chorus never did match up volume wise(thank GOD for the low volume parts of the chorus,HA,HA,HA).So what I did was constantly adjust the volume of acapella through the whole song. When the volume in the vocals got too high,i brought them down, and when they were too low,i took them up and also took down that 3rd verse chorus.I also made a adjustment to the acapella, cause the chorus was damn near running over the verses and i also made alterations to that chorus to make it more bearable. So with that,I tried making a remix that will appeal to 2pac & prince fans by using 2 of my favorite Prince joints and try to give 2pac that “I Get Around” vibe again.
These are the Prince songs I sampled:
Sign Of The Times and Pop Life

ONE
I will probably be sitting out this week due to time constraints and previous obligations. Peace out to Tokyo, STTRESS, Isbjerg, One Mic, and all the other producers bringing that heat! Good luck this week!
What up everyone.
I was putting this one off, but I decided to get to business. I went a little straight up on this one, as if Prince and Pac did a duet of Somebody’s Somebody.

Tokyo- This is knocking, especially the hook. I like these verses chilling way out. Nicely done.
Isberg doesn’t want to lose the crown. real heavy beat- I like it, but wanted a little more melody from the guitars, or at least have them really hit you rick rubin style.
Cory, dope drums, I wanted a Prince guitar lick on there or something, but the tracks still good.
S.T.T.R.E.S.S.- when that melody hit, man, nice
layering. Works really well.
Blinky, good to see you again. Another nice melody; definitely nodding my head to this.
Mystro, this reminds me of some old school Pac, like an unreleased track from the 80’s. Really easy to listen to. And this breakdown….
Peace everyone. It’s sounding good, and it’s about time Pac showed up in the remix contest. He sounds good on just about any track.
Cool. Finally some 2pac. n I like Easy Mo Bee too. I’m not sure if he was the first but he was doin the chipmunk soul thing before Kanye n Just. Like in Str8 Ballin (one of my favs). I don’t wanna sound like im dissin kanye or just blaze (big fan of them also), cos I dont think they claim to have invented that style, its just other ppl that get it wrong and say they did.
Anyway heres my take:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/171089036a774a05/
Very different feel to the original. I kinda turned it into a summer jam lol. At first I wanted to try n match the vibe Mo Bee put to the original, but then I found this sample and it just went. I sampled My Love Is Forever, off Prince’s first album.
I know what u’s mean about the acapella though. I automated the volume to keep it a bit more even, and added some high end on the eq cos it sounded a bit flat. I also changed the chorus (so that its Prince singing) because the key they were singing in didn’t match my beat.
But yeah I can’t believe I’m only the 10th entry! Mustnt be many pac fans here.
Wassup Dutch, thanx for the comment, good job on your remix, like the way you worked out the hook, smooth and soulful.
Peace !
Wassup fellas, One Mic coming in really late this week. I was looking forward to this weeks remix when it was posted last week, but that acapella is a real bitch – or the chorus that is! Not my usual type of work, but I couldn’t sleep knowing that I might have to sit this week out! Props to all of you for sticking with such a difficult track – Throw up your fingers!
