This Is Hip Hop Remix Contest Part II: Week 10 Winner

Everybody love remixing some Jay-Z! But I think some people were intimidated to touch a Timbaland joint. Props to all of you who gave it a shot though. As I mentioned in a previous post, we realized after releasing the acapella that this track actually came out in 2000. So instead of pulling the plug, we’re gonna include it as a bonus track on the mixtape and throw up another week (for a total of 13 weeks in the contest).

Our guest judge for this week is Canada’s own DJ Chong Wizard, most known himself for remixing Jay-Z and Ghostface in American Ironman. Read on for his comments and the final results…

DJ Chong Wizard:

Yo I just listened to all the remixes and I gotta say there was tons of dope beats and good remixes. Here are my top 5!

5. Ace Fadal – Bleek sounded fresh as a muthafucka on this remix

4. Beatwunder – Jay sounds real serious on this beat…

3. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – Diggin the laid back mellow vibe of this one

2. Cory Hall - This beat is the shit!!! I gotta smoke to this one!!!

1. G.C. – Easily the best remix… this shit got me amped the fuck up!

5. Beatwunder – Nice laid back track that goes well with the vocals even though the original is more up tempo.

4. Dutchmaster – Like the change up during the hook. Track has an aggressive feel that surprisingly works for the track.

3. G.C. – Another good track. Sounds like you were in the studio with them. Bleek sounds perfect over this.

2. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – Nice loop. Laid back feel to it. This track is tailor made for Bleek (IMO he sounds better over either up tempo or slow/laid back tracks). Notice lots of change ups, different elements through out he track. Good one.

1. SND – This track is fire!. The vocal sample adds to the track and isn’t distracting at all. Drums and all other instruments in the track add to the track. This is the one I have listened to the most. I just wish you would have let the beat ride out at the end of the song instead of cutting it off….but that’s being picky. Send me this instrumental.

Here’s my top 10…

10. P Floyd - nice beat and interesting chorus… what happened to Bleek though? Levels could have been brought up.

09. Jack Nickelz – dug the intro and the sample was tough!

08. BLINKY – not a remix I would bump in the car, but gotta give you props for the originality. Bleek sounds really good on this actually.

07. One Mic – I really like this beat and it probably would have been a strong contender for the number one spot if the vocals matched up. Had to show you luv in my top ten though!

06. Beatwunder – I really liked this beat. There was an instrument in the chorus that was kind of annoying though… sounded like a video game. Nice job though!

05. Goosebumps – this had a really nice vibe! When I heard Jay spit on this the vibe kinda reminded me of “Girls, Girls, Girls”. Great job!

04. Tommylux – this was a nice vibe and I loved how you switch up the beat when Bleeek came in. One of your best remixes yet!

03. G.C. – you really can do no wrong. I like the”Blue Magic” intro. Whereas most of the remixes were smoothed out, you made Jay sound tough on this. Hold on to this beat… we gotta do something with this.

02. SND – and the vibes just keep getting nicer! Great sample!

01. S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – my man! Love the sample. So soulful… could have been something off American Gangster. Major props!
