Artist Spotlight: Tudakay

Over the last few months NY emcee/producer Tudakay has been leaking us tracks off his upcoming album the Dollar Menu.  Well, the album is in the final stages and set to be released September 2nd.  I’ve heard the album and all I can say is it’s definitely that feel good music.

If you’re wondering what Tudakay is all about, prepare to be acquainted.  We got the one on one right here.

Kevin: Yo, what’s good man? First of all, congratulations on completing your album the Dollar Menu and allowing us to release it online through our site. The album is incredible and I can’t wait to hear people’s reaction. How does it feel to have it complete? Are you satisfied with the finished product?

Tudakay: Honestly it feels really good to have completed the Dollar Menu album. As far as being satisfied with with the finished product, I’m 80 percent satisfied; the other 20 percent kicks in when the fans let me know they feeling the Dollar Menu project.

Kevin: Why don’t you take a moment to introduce yourself to everyone? How long you been doing this?

Tudakay: I go by the name of Tudakay out of Amityville, New York. I been doing this hip hop thang since EPMD told you,”Your a Customer”, real talk.

Kevin: Now the Dollar Menu is all you right? Written, performed, and produced by Tudakay? What’s the concept behind the album?

Tudakay: Well the Dollar Menu is my first solo album, but it features my krew Tril along with production by D.J. Phantom, Nate Tinsley and yours truly Tudakay.  The concept behind the album isn’t that deep.  Now a days everyone shops at the dollar store and, as we know, in there you can find the best products for a dollar.  So welcome to Tudakay’s Dollar Menu.

Kevin: So if you could choose just one area, rhyming or producing, which would it be?

Tudakay: I love producing and I love rhyming so i guess i choose both… LOL.

Kevin: LOL, ok well how would you describe your style; your beats and your flow? What inspires you?

Tudakay: My style stems from many places.  I can say I love funk music and soul music the most. As far as my flow I do what the beats tell me to do.  I’m inspired by creative music.

Kevin: I love that funk and soul too… who did you listen to growing up?

Tudakay: Growing up I listened to Earth Wind & Fire, Parliament, James Brown, The Gap Band, and many more.

Kevin: You got Wordsworth from the supergroup eMC to drop a few lines on the “Walking Contradiction” Remix. How’d that collaboration come about? Did you guys get in the studio together?

Tudakay: Well first off peace to Wordsworth. I reached out to him threw Myspace and we kicked it. He loved the original and the rest is history.  Also we wasn’t in the studio , I sent the song to him and he sent it back with the crazy 16 bars. I met him in New York and he’s a cool brother.

Kevin: What does Tudakay bring to the table? What’s you contribution to hip hop?

Tudakay: Tudakay brings that real talk to the table.  I say things people wanna say but are afraid to. I contribute the love for the music to the game.

Kevin: You’re on a deserted island… what one hip hop album do you have with you?

Tudakay: On a deserted island I would probably have Redman’s Whut Thee Album.

Kevin: Ah, excellent choice!  What do we have to look forward to after the Dollar Menu? Any other projects coming up? Any other collabos?

Tudakay: After Dollar Menu I have an EP dropping called Disco Tek, and Dollar Menu 2 coming.  Last but not least my krew Tril, Illa Natti, and Starborne.

Kevin: Aight man, thanks for taking time out to chill with us. You got any thing you wanna add that we didn’t cover?

Tudakay: I just wanna add… hit me up at Myspace. Also stay tuned for more head nod music from Tudakay. Thanks Kev!
