This is it… last week! This 90s contest has been a blast for me and hopefully for you. I know it sure has keep a lot of us busy over the summer. Well, now it’s time to bring it to a close. I don’t think we repped the west coast enough during the contest, so we’re gonna head back there for our final week. Check the details below…
This Week’s Track
In 1996 Ice Cube got together with WC and Mack 10 to form the Westside Connection. One of their biggest hits was the Bud’da produced “Bow Down”. Take your shot, west coast style…. bring that funk up in this bitch!
The cut-off to submit your remix is
Sunday, August 31, 2008 @ 3:00pm EDT.

Whats up fellas.Well,I did’nt think i was gonna be able to finish the contest off,but i said to myself,i started it on week 1,and i’m gonna finish it.It might set me back a little with what i got going on,but it was worth it.First of all,i would like to thank Kev,for having a spot for us to display our talents.Kev,I appreciate the opportunity. Thanks!!!!!!!!And second, thanks to all the remixers, that kept bringing that heat every week, that pushed me to step my beat game up and have fun doing it.Thanks fellas!!!!!!!!! I will pop my head out, every once and awhile,to see whats going on. LOL
One Love!

Whats up again.Ifigured i would comment, while i have the chance to hear the ones thats already posted, and like always, getting off to a nice start.
SND- you gave it that west coast stomp vibe with the beat.good feel
Phur-you picked the breaks,that say g-funk era.nice choices
Now D-those keys remind me of some cypress hill.welcome
Cory Hall-acapella got away a little, but the syths sound like something that pharcyde would use.keep grinding
RNP-came with the cookout remix.kinda grimy, but laid back.
JfK-made me reminince about the old schol banger by m.c. breed-a’int no future in ya frontin.nice work
Mystro-you had some sinister keys in that remix.
Isbjerg-you brought out the clap snares in there.nice touch.
Those high pitched, bending type syths are a trademark in west coast music and that was represented in some of our remixes, but the patterns were all different. Its a beautiful thing to have the same concept, but pull it off,in different ways.Keep the heat on.
Peace!
West Coast is my shit so I decided to give this one a go.

What’s up everyone. Congratulations to all the winners, and to all the participants. See you around next time.

I’ll be back to throw in my thoughts about the rest.
Peace
SND, nice fat bass, with some whine on the hook. A
solid west coast track.
Phurcat- definitely got the staple in there; when I heard the intro I got excited. Nice chunky flip. Big snares.
Now-D, this is a heavy track. Glad you showed up; hope to hear more from you. Digging that guitar in the background.
Mystro, should have given the Game a call and told him about this track. Really well done.
Isberg, great layering. A lot of heavy pieces in here, especially the worm.
RNP, I like how you went the other way with it, kept it soulful. I think the drums are what makes it work.
D.I. Dollar, this one knocks nicely; angry west coast stuff. I like the claps especially.
Cory, tighten up the acapella and you got a nice minimalist beat that you hear from around the block.
S.T.T.R.E.S.S., I’m sold right from the start. These drums sound great, like something Bink used on the Blueprint. I had a feeling the gangsta lead synth would show up. Nice track.
JFK, giving us the O.G. autotuner. This is a big track, with your trademark rice krispie pops and crackles.
It seems like a lot of people were waiting for an ice cube track to unleash some heavy tracks. Nicely done all around. Peace.
Whats again fellas.
WELL,hello there Mr. Dollar!!!!Its good to see u on this side.I like your choices in the samples you used.Haunted House of Rock and So Ruff So Tuff, now how was that, for an ear for music. LOL.Good job on the remix.
Dutch-Thanks 4 the props, playa. You came with that ghetto boogie on that one.DO THE HUSTLE!!!!!!
PEACE!!!

big up to everyone that participated,
see y’all next time?
peace
Dammit Kinetic, I thought I was the only one working on a bonus cut. I thought I would bring back the old school tradition of the MegaMix, but instead of using WestSide Connection beats (wish I would of thought of that earlier) I just used old school West Coast Hip Hop Gangster Sh!t. And before you start screaming the Game is not old school, I know, but I wanted to prove that this was done currently and not just downloaded off of the internet somewhere. So anyhow here it is. I like it, I hope you do to.

Maan, I’m upset it took me until last night to find this competition…..
Bow Down (Danny Boi Remix)
http://www.zshare.net/audio/178744804dac735e/
unfortunatly i can’t join this week :/ because i broke my right hand a week ago :/ that’s the reason why i did’nt submit anything last week either :/ but in 2-3 weeks i’ll be back at making beats again
peace!
yo D.I. Dollar, I made that bonus because, like every week I had some leftovers, like most of us I think,
It was hard to choose because that acap is so versatile,
Everyone did his thing, altough the remix from S.T.T.R.E.S.S. I’m feelin’ the most till now
peace
Yo.
Back with a remix. Unfortunately had no time for remixing Meth Man, but here’s my version “Bow Down”:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/17906982583776d3/
Tried to give it a 90s feel. Hope you all like it. Please leave comments, on what you think of it.
Gonna comment the other remixes soon.
Cheers,
ill-mannered.
Time to provide some feedback:
Snd: Yeah, true oldskool feel, with a G-funk-touch!
Phurcat: Nice “brutal” sound! Makes me bounce!
Now-D: Like the relaxed mood!
Cory Hall: Sounds weird. In a positive way. Great synth sounds. Reminds me of the Cool Kids.
RNP: Awesome sample!! One of my favs.
JFKmusik: Man, love that one! Awesome bass and beat. Also one of my favs.
Mystro: Another bouncy one. Great refrain!!
Isbjerg: Classic samples – Classic material! Love it.

D.I. Dollar: Love the synths!!! Bonus beats is really great oldskool stuff!
Dutchmasters: Funky stuff. Like the idea of throwing in some bongos. Unique.
PH1: Laid back 90ies. Good work.

Danny Boi: Funky track! Hope to hear more from you in future contests!
EB-productions: Hope your doin well soon! Best wishes from my side!
Good work everyone. Again: Respect!
Well it looks like this is the end of the road for the 90’s comp. I wanted to do something really special with this weeks acapella, but time was definitely not on my side this week! Anyways, I did manage to have my locs on for most part of this remix – I still want to add something, whatever that may be! Ideas anyone? I also want to take a minute to thank all of you for making this competition truly worth it! I made a lot of new friends here and learned so much from all of you! I’m sure my girl is ready to leave my black ass after 3 month of sitting here with headphones on, but I have a feeling that I’ll see you all on the next remix comp! Last but not least – Kevin, you are the man! Thank you and crew for putting in so much effort. You hard work shall be rewarded – keep you eyes peeled for something real special! Anyways, here is my version of “Bow Down”

and
http://www.zshare.net/audio/17929141bfd962e6/
Karl your first one’s the shit. I almost went with an uptempo dance type beat to try to be different, but at the last minute changed my mind. Yours would have killed me though. Reeediculous!
Yo and to everybody else, great job as always, good luck and much respect. I don’t envy the judges job this week, and I think its gonna be the first week nobody gets criticized for their acapellas running on the beat. Everybody makes it seem like they’re doing going away speeches and saying goodbye and shit. I’m sure our boy Kev has got something else cooking and although I’m sure a lot of you guys will be busier than you were, I know myself at least will still make sure to check the site daily and represent to the fullest. Again good luck and great job to errybody.
