Lamont Dozier: “Shine”
From the album Black Bach (1976)
Ghostface Killah: “Saturday Nite”
From the album Supreme Clientele (2000)
Produced by Carlos “6 July” Broady for The Hitmen
Pharoahe Monch: “Mayor”
From the album Soundbombing II (1999)
Produced by Lee Stone
Normally these posts are dedicated to the producers and we ask the question “who flipped it better?”. Well, since this is officially Ghostface Week at This Is Hip Hop, I want to know “who SPIT it better?”. Both Ghostface and Pharoahe Monch had tracks that sampled Lamont Dozier’s “Shine”. The beats are similar, but which one of these cats made that track “shine”? Who brought it the hardest? Who spit it better?

Ghost’s story had more cohesion and excitement to it. Makes me wonder did Ghost here Monch’s track and decide to spit over it even though Monch had his out already? Just a thought.
They were both produced by different people and the beats aren’t exactly the same, so I doubt it. Of course, Ghost does it for me here.
i think Monch got it… but who am i.. haha.. and its funny that U brought this up Kev… cuz i flipped this too and its gonna be used on an 7 track EP Element n I did that were gonna be giving out in a few weeks called “A Long Story Short”… n maybe u can add AB to this post
haha just kidding, (unless u wanna add him lol)… but yah, u know ur gonna be the first to get it…
monch always takes it…the man is a lyrical assassin….

MONCH GOT THIS ONE… BUT GHOST”S BEAT WAS A LITTLE HARDER!!!
Both are ill, but Ghost is the greatest storyteller of all time

OK, but what about P$C and Big Kuntry King, KD Playa Prez, Sche and Rock, Cuban Linx, Papoose, Longshot, even Anthony Hamilton? U could do a whole album on shine samples and it would be like a who’s who
