I had the honor of chopping it up with one of the West Coast’s shining stars, Glasses Malone. In such a short period of time, Glasses has climbed the ranks from local street emcee to being signed to arguably the most popular rapper right now, Lil Wayne. We discuss new projects, past and current relationships and so much more!
Beads: The new single with Lil Wayne and Baby, “Haterz” recently came out and you have a video out right now for it. What do you feel like this song can do for your career?
Glasses Malone: Put me on B.E.T! LOL. Also lets everyone know my affiliation with Cash Money Records.
Beads: Back when White Lightning (Sticks) dropped, you were one of the highest sought after New West rapper. What do you think helped you live up to the hype and actually prove you belong in the game?
Glasses Malone: The fans appreciate a regular street nigga. More niggas can relate to my stories than other rappers I assume. Thank God!
Beads: When you first signed to Sony it was huge news. You became “Mr. 1.7 Million” and sort of gave the west and especially the New West hope that things in the industry were changing. How did you feel when everything fell through at Sony?
Glasses Malone: I didn’t feel anything! Just knew I had to keep pushing!
Beads: We’ve seen you go from your Black Wall Street affiliation to the Sony deal to your current situation with Hoo Banging and Cash Money. What made this situation the best for you?
Glasses Malone: Honestly I’ve felt all the situations were perfect for those stages in my career. Each situation took my career and artistry further. I felt each situation was best at the time I was involved in them. Cash Money is like icing on the cake. Wayne & Baby both support what I do! Mack is my muthafuccin nigga!
Beads: With that being said, when can we expect “Beach Cruiser”?
Glasses Malone: Nov 18, 2008, the same day as the nigga responsible for my first hit! “Akon” my brother from another mother!
Beads: As far as features and production, who can we expect to hear on the album?
Glasses Malone: DJ Toomp & The Bizness handled most of the production.
Beads: You also have some other projects that people are looking forward to. Can you gives us any more info on these?
The project with Kam and Young Bruh
Glasses Malone: The group is called “Riot”… its top secret!
Beads: The project with Mistah F.A.B
Glasses Malone: We gonna sneak that one in sometime real soon!
Beads: Monster’s Ink
Glasses Malone: Oct. 7, 2008 digitally.
(Writer’s Note-Glasses mentioned that this release is a Blu Division release. Physical copies will be available on Oct. 21, 2008. This is a concept album and each song will be Halloween themed in some way or another. And the physical copies will be limited to 5000 copies).
Beads: Fuck Glasses Malone Mixtape
Glasses Malone: It will be out Sept. 20, 2008. It is about 20% away from being done. And will feature the single, “Where It At” with Lil Wayne and Cam’Ron.
Beads: Recently fellow west coast rapper, 40 Glocc, has been putting out videos and things making a mockery of Baby and Lil Wayne and publicly questioning them. Do you have any comment on all of this?
Glasses Malone: We are working to get it settled!
Beads: There’s also been some commotion around the production credits for “Haterz”. I don’t know the whole story inside and out but who actually produced the single?
Glasses Malone: The kid “Mev” from the Renegades produced it.
Beads: With all of the parody and influx of rappers in the industry recently, what makes you different and why should a new listener continue to look out for G. Malone.
Glasses Malone: I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m creating art over here.
Beads: Is there anything you want to leave us with or any shout outs?
Glasses Malone: Bad Ass Blu Division. and visit me on Myspace.
