Willie Hutch: DJ Pain One vs. Chad “Wes” Hamilton

by Kevin on September 4, 2008 · 29 comments

Willie Hutch: “Overture of Foxy Brown”
From the album Foxy Brown (1975)

Young Jeezy: “Don’t Do It”
From the album The Recession (2008)
Produced by DJ Pain One

Freeway: “Baby Don’t Do It”
From the album Free At Last (2007)
Produced by Chad “Wes” Hamilton

Jeezy’s new album, The Recession, hit stores this past Tuesday and some may recognize some familiar samples used to make the album.  Here’s one that was also used for Freeway’s album released just last year.  Who flipped it better?  DJ Pain One or Chad Hamilton?

Chad West is the winner. DJ Pain One adds somethings to the track that f’s it up for me.

Ima have to give to Chad on this one…I was feelin DJ Pain One’s as well, but Chad killed it….funny, I never heard these tracks until today…

I’d have to go with DJ Pain One. He added a musical element that fits the track perfect. Plus the bass line on his was sick as well.

mhh, error opening the files…only my problem or is there something wrong? idk…but i know both songs, and i think chad won this one!

Um, Willie Hutch is the sample. It’s Chad Hamilton or DJ Pain One. lol

i think he’s trying to say that neither lives up to the original :-X

When I was listening to Jeezy I knew somebody else used this sample and I have Freeway’s joint!! lol I think Chad Wes flipped it the best. It’s something about that real fast drum in DJ Pain One’s track that doesn’t do it for me it reminds of how “And Then What” starts off the track on Jeezy’s first album.

Well the sample is already hot. When I heard Jeezy’s new album I swear whoever produced 2 of them joints “baby dont do it” and “word play” had to download the sample sets u have on here all the time. But as far as this particular track is concerned “Chad Wes on Track” murdered it. i been rocking to Free’s version since the 1st day the album dropped. Not taking anything away from DJ but Wes is a monster kids… Next “who Flippedit better” do Jeezy’s “word Play” and Sigels “Look @ me now”… Beanies joint smashes it.

I found this page while searching for some Jeezy album reviews…

Once again I inadvertently find myself amidst a controversy. I didn’t hear the Chad Wes version until recently. Maybe if I had heard his version, I wouldn’t have sampled it for Jeezy’s track (Wes has seniority for sure)… but then Jeezy, Myself and whoever owns Willie Hutch’s masters and publishing would have all missed out. :)

Peace everybody,
P

im diggin’ Chad’s verse a lot! the jeezy shyt is hard too, but i gotta go with free’s joint

14 Kevin September 6, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Yo, what up Pain 1? I wouldn’t call this a controversy… this is a regular thing here on the site. Thanks for stoppin by those and props for one of the better tracks on Jeezy’s album. We sure have a review of it soon.

Chad “Wes” Hamilton gets it. Two completely different styles, ut I’d take soul over dirty any day

16 dar September 6, 2008 at 11:24 pm

chad, definitely. the track is bonkers, and with Free and Scarface on top of it, there’s no question.

You’re right Kevin– controversy is a hyperbole. I really do enjoy reading this, even though I’m losing big to Chad here :P

Either way, it’s a pretty respectful dialog. Let me know if you ever need anything from me (via myspace, if possible).

Its more than just these two songs that have that same Willie Hutch sample. Trae used this on his song restless from his album entitled restless released in 2006.

19 Kevin September 7, 2008 at 9:36 am

Yeah Loco, obviously others have used this sample as well. These were the two tracks that we decided to put up against one another.

20 Tray September 7, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Wow, I would’ve said Pain One, easily.

21 Chad "Wes" Hamilton September 8, 2008 at 11:39 am

I love the conversation too. Its all good. Thanks for the feedback! I’ve been grinding on some new sh$t so look out for me! Thanks for the LOVE! What you heard is just a start.

“CHAD WES ON TRACK!!!”

Chad, thanks for stoppin by man! Keep us up on your work!

23 Stacks & Stout October 15, 2008 at 5:01 pm

Ima have to go with DJ Pain 1. Chad did his thing though. Both are great tracks.

24 trapperjohnmd October 27, 2008 at 12:40 pm

I would say say Chad Wes. I think DJ added to much to the beat. Free’s more soulful

25 Ms.Beatkonductah October 29, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Chad!!

26 LW November 22, 2008 at 6:46 pm

the freeway’s version is better…

Jeezy Version all year forget all day

28 Archie R. Cey December 12, 2008 at 11:31 pm

Mos Def Chad Wes’ version tho I enjoy both song, the Free songs was one of the standouts on Free At Last plus Facemob is on that so you know

PS: it’s my 1st time on this site – tight!!!
Really about the music ’stead of the bullshit

I’d have to say Pain one’s- It sounds heavier, more feeling
