Pay Dirt, Grey Skirts, and Hip Hop

  1. Football season began last weekend, who was excited as I was and is watching week 2 action like I am right now? I’m a football nut, sadly, a Dolphins fan. They are coming to Toronto to play the Bills in December though; I’ll be there for sure. We have a huge football fan base, even for the CFL, which many consider better than the NFL, just not as noticed. I also do numerous fantasy pools, but like an idiot, they contradict themselves a lot. Whatever, I love the game and I love knowing what’s going on and following it. My Sundays are really bloody lazy these days though. I guess to extract a larger topic out of football, how many of ya’ll find your chill/peace/cool on Sundays? Football certainly helps drown out the blues that come along Sunday night before bed-time (ha, did I just say bed-time? Hold on, let me get my one piece bed suit). Oh, and a new episode of “Entourage” tonight…word. So how do ya’ll wind down your Sundays? Is it football, is it church, is it your woman…or a woman…

  2. So, now that Kev has given me clearance to pretty much say whatever I want on this part of the blog, I will say that now that school is back, let’s also welcome back jailbait. Yeah, I’ve never been a fan of the high school girlies, and I’ve actually moved transit systems so that I don’t have to deal with the high school kids anymore, but I’ve heard stories. To all my homies who read this, you know who you are…and I’m sorry. At least they never told you how old they were and you didn’t willingly, you know, with a 17 year old when you are 21-22 years old. It’s okay. These are the same chicks who pretty much invaded a free Talib Kweli concert at my university for the reasons of only getting free stuff. You know that girl at the beginning of “The Blast”? That’s how like 70% of the people there sounded.

  3. However, not all female fans are the wannabes. I recently spoke with my homegirl, Sandra, who recently just told me her view on hip hop. She calls it the art of story-telling. She understands that it represents so much more than what is on the cover. I agree, the album cover, the linear notes, the placement of lyrics, everything does help develop the importance of the art. Hip Hop is the culture we all know and love, it is hard to call what we see on BET and HOT 97 “hip hop”, but every culture has it demons. It is people like Sandra, that love to be educated and continuously rise in the ranks of hip hop appreciation because what was once a “Great” Mary J Blige and Puff Daddy song was once an even better Tribe Called Quest joint. As a philosophy buff, I still believe that there is a truth that we all must find, I urge many people to educate those around them to find the truth about hip hop. Even if “Taleib Jakwi” is supposed to be Talib Kweli, educate a little bit. I’m certainly the disgruntled type that would be bitter about it, hopefully you guys aren’t.

My Eagles will win tonight 35-30. McNabb is back and healthy for the first time in 2-3 years. Back to his old self.

I’m sorry your a Dolphins fan; but with the Big Tuna running things…I give them 2-4 years to get back to respectability.

I got your back Deez. I’m not a big sports fan, but since I’m in Miami, I’ll rep the Dolphins!

Sunday nights are nice to unwind… “Entourage” is my show; although last night’s episode wasn’t the best. Ari kills it everytime though. And what the fuck is up with Drama?!?! LOL

I wanna talk about Jailbait. Surprised no one has commented on it yet. I think people may be afraid to touch the subject. Of course, I wouldn’t dare look at anything under 18, but to me 18-21 year olds feel like jailbait! I’m pushing 35 and the chicks seem to be getting younger and younger. I swear everytime I get my subscription to King magazine, I’m like damn… I wish I were 10 years younger… lol. Anyway, you didn’t think I was gonna confess to diggin’ 17 year olds, did you?

Lastly, yes oh yes, we need female represented in hip hop and I’m not talking about the video chicks. Any ladies out there wanna blog part time? We got one lady on the team (Krome.) but she’s primarily in the art department. We need a woman to even out the testosterone on the site!

Sunday’s including working, chillin with the fam, rec basketball with my 30 and over crew, and wishing The Wire was back on HBO. Not really into Entourage.

I don’t occupy the same areas that young folks do, such as malls, movies, high school events, etc.

Don’t know any females that dig hip hop as much as I do. My wife and I both like Jay-Z, but that’s about it….she thinks what I like is trash and her taste and fondness certain music makes me turn my face up.

lol @ “this site is a sausage fest!”

Anways as a FEMALE..jailbait works against us young women as well, I DO NOT know what these kids are eating these days but the younger guys nowadays are pushing 6 ft,around 180-200 lbs with an afternoon shadow…n we ladies are fooled just as much as the fellas!….but I’m no sucker for the jailbait..i’ll go maybe a years younger..and that’s about it :P

LOL!! at the girl in the beginning of the Blast track..I always thought that girl reminded me of my sister…which made me laugh even more as i read on because she was one of the female york students who attended the show and hasn’t even listened to a kweli track… unless of course she randomly stepped into my room to catch a verse! I hate going to shows and seeing girls who don’t have a clue as to why they’re standin there..perhaps to impress their bf? I have no idea.

and lastly, just because the hip hop industry is male dominated doesn’t mean the fan base has to be. I love Hip Hop, and I’ve always been eager to expand my knowledge and experiences with it since I was a kid. It’s important for people to understand the art of hip hop and the evolution. I respect old heads but i have a greater respect for the peeps today who can tear away from the garbage that has saturated the present day music scene and indulge in what’s left of good old classic, wholesome hip hop.

and I believe maya angelou said it tastefully when she said:
“Lyrical poetry is out for the time being, and something that is called rap or hip-hop is in. It is still poetry. It is an art of story telling and we can’t live without it. We need language to tell us who we are, how we feel, what we’re capable of — to explain the pains and glory of our existence.”

p.s Great reviews deez

much love

Stizzie

Better late than never!

These jailbait children, my word. I mean, what kind of parents are letting their children roam around dressed the way they do, with the makeup they have on? I know that my African parents would be be on a row boat back home if I were to wear what some of them do – and I’m 20. Just honestly, fellas, double check and check again. Find out what you can, because honestly, these girls will LIE about their age. I think you all need to do the Moxie’s test….take them to Moxie’s, sit at the bar, and they’ll be required to show some form of ID, lol.

As for hip-hop, it’s H.E.R.story (copyright!!) as much as it is a story for the fellas. Whether it be the softer side of hip-hop that indulges in love, friendships and familiy, or the hard-hitting side that expresses struggles, girls can equally relate. I will never know everything about hip-hop, honestly, I don’t believe anyone can. I’ll forever expand my knowledge with hopes of finding out all Her secrets…

(ps, I wanted to punch out half the girls who were at the Talib concert….)
