This Is Hip Hop Remixtape Vol 2: The 90s

For 13 weeks over the summer of 2008 producers, DJs, and beatmakers from all over the world came to This Is Hip Hop for the 90s edition of the This Is Hip Hop Remix Contest.  Each week, remixers had one week to produce a beat that matched the acapella that was provided in the contest.  The acapellas were taken from 90s era hip hop; an era that many of us hold close to our hearts.  Everyone brought their A-game and proved that there is so much more talent out there than what you hear on the radio today.  For three out of the 13 weeks we switched things up and had a sample stipulation.  The remixers were give the acappella for the week and an artist that they had to sample.  These can be heard in tracks 2, 3, and 9.  In addition to that, we had a tag team week where the remixers had to team up with one another to collaborate on a remix.  The end result had Dutchmasters & Tokyo Cigar forming Black Tobacco on track 7.  The contest was both fun for the remixers, as well as difficult for the judges because there were so many great beats.  Unfortunately, there could only be one winner each week.  The winners have been compiled here in the This Is Hip Hop Remixtape: The 90s.

Feel free to pass this mixtape around and share with your friends.  If you are really feeling the production behind these tracks, make sure you hit up the remixers at their MySpace pages to congratulate them.

I would personally like to thank the following people who assisted in judging the contest.  Without them, this contest would not have been successful:

  1. Thomas - dude, you held it down every single week.  By doing that, you definitely felt my pain! LOL. You do so much more on this site than people realize.  Thanks so much for sticking in there!
  2. 100dBs (www.100dbs.com) – dope ass DJ and producer from NYC, thanks for holding down week 1!
  3. MIDIMarc (http://myspace.com/beatsbymidimarc) – producer extraordinaire out of South Cackalaky!  Weeks 1 & 8 wouldn’t have been the same with out you!
  4. Remot (http://www.myspace.com/remotmusic) – HipHopDX American Gangster Remix Winner.  Thanks for stopping by in week 2, man!  Hope you hit us soon with some new beats!
  5. J. Master – Man, you’ve done so much for us on the site, I’ve lost track of how many thank yous I’ve thrown your way.  But we’re more or less even though, right? lol… Let’s keep building bro.  Thanks for helping out in week 4!
  6. QueR!CO! (http://myspace.com/quericoproductions) – It’s a shame you couldn’t participate this time around, but thanks for judging in week 5.  Much appreciated!
  7. DJ Chong Wizard (http://myspace.com/djchongwizard) – the coolest DJ I know out of Canada.  Thanks for staying up man… Week 10 was dope!
  8. DJ SoulClap (http://myspace.com/djsoulclap) – who knew Germans knew how to make beats? J/K… SoulClap you’re one smooth soulster.  Can’t wait to hear “Purity” man!  Thanks for judging in Week 11.

A very special thanks goes out to Krome who designed the front and back album covers to the mixtape.  Make sure you hit her up at http://kromey.com for all your graphics needs!

And lastly a warm thank you to all the remixers who participated week after week.  The contest would not have been what it was without you all.  Can’t wait to hear them Soul Movement Fam remixes!

    Thanks clubba, for the support!

Congrats to YOU, Dutchmasters, getting a spot on the mixtape! I think you were the only one that made it onto both volumes in both contests.

Since I was on the judges panel this time, most of my picks all already on this mix… so no bonus cuts this time. Although, I do have a contest “outtake” track that I’ll put up this week.

Eh, Yo Kev, What Slow Jam Did The Producer Who Made The Beat For The “I Used To Love H.E.R.” Remix Sample From? I Recently Heard The Song On The Radio, But Never Got The Song..

I Need To Know Because I Produce Beats, Along With Rappin.. I Got Ideas On Makin A Beat Sampling That Slow Jam.. Any Feedback Would Be Great..

P.S. Great Job With Everything, Bro. Because Of You And Your Team, I Learned That All Great Beats Are Made From Great Samples!! The “Original Samples” Downloads Helped With My Producing A Lot.
