After I pointed out that a lot of todays Hip Hop is influenced by European dance music, this one right here just fits perfect.
When I was listening to T.I.‘s new LP Paper Trail, I couldn’t believe what I heard – track number 5, “Live Your Life”, featuring Rihanna and produced by non other than Just Blaze. There it was: “Ma-ia-hii, Ma-ia-huu, Ma-ia-hoo, Ma-ia-haa“!!!
The track samples the — well, let me say it like this — very controversial song “Dragostea Din Tei” performed by the Moldovan dance trio O-Zone.
The song is written in Romanian and was a huge summer hit over here in Europe back in 2004. I don’t know who’s idea it was to sample that crazy song but one thing is clear, he must have been thinkin’: “It was a huge hit overseases so it should be a hit over here“!
Compare the two for yourself:
“Dragostea Din Tei” by O-Zone
“Live Your Life” by T.I. (feat. Rihanna)
