14KT is 1/7th of Michigan hip hop heroes The Athletic Mic League (AML) and 1/4th of production powerhouse The Lab Techs. He has been instrumental in boosting the careers of fellow crew members Buff1 and DJ Haircut. Now that he’s produced pivotal tracks for nearly every notable Detroit hip hop artist and beyond, released multiple albums with AML, and toured extensively throughout the US and Europe, this Producer / Emcee / DJ is ready to expose the inner workings of his mind to the world. The Golden Hour (due out October 14th) serves as an introduction to the unorthodox genius of 14KT and is the first of several full length albums already completed.

“I wanted to make theme music that gives you the feeling of where I am from. Ypsilanti..Ypsitucky..Ypsilanta.. is a small city in Michigan. There are areas of it that are somewhat hard and you can hear it in the drums, but the overall vibe of Ypsi is very simple, laid back, kinda country, and chill. This is theme music for anyone who is from Ypsilanti, ever lived in Ypsilanti, loves Ypsilanti, or just knows about Ypsilanti…its for you.. “

” When I started putting the soundtrack together, there was a scene in my “life movie” where I was reflecting on important memories, people, and situations that made me who I am. I envisioned a tiny purple spaceship,slowly flying inside of my brain (kind of like the movie “Innerspace” haha)… where you see snapshots of different moments….giving you a tour of everything that was going through my mind. I wanted the music to sound spacey and introspective to capture the vibe of the scene. Much love to my girl Tiffany Paige for the beautiful vocals to illustrate the scene more..hope you can see it..”

Yeah, 14KT is one of the most refreshing producers/people to emerge in a minute. I first heard him on Snowman Jack’s page on myspace. It was around the time Dilla passed and his beat “without Dilla” was playing.
The fact that hes’ a cool brotha is also a huge plus. Not stuck on himself in any manner. A real true talent here.
