Word…Life: Original Samples

by Thomas on October 13, 2008 · 18 comments

Another set that has been sitting in our massive “incomplete/unfinished” folder for a minute now. All the samples are not known, but after about four months in hibernation we needed to let this one breath! O.C.’s debut album Word…Life was released on October 18, 1994 (re-released in 2004) and is considered a classic by many. The album which is produced mostly by Buckwild (from D.I.T.C. fame) spawned the classic “Time’s Up” (Check out Isbergs remix of “Time’s Up”). The set packs some Jazz, classic soul samples, and some well known breaks. We’ve added a bonus sample for O.C.’s song “Half Good, Half Sinner” just because. If this album isn’t in your collection…GO GET IT.

Who can forget “You lack the minerals and vitamins, irons and the niacin/Fuck who that I offend, rappers sit back, I’m ’bout to begin/’bout foul talk you squawk, never even walked the walk…

Thanks to all! One of favorite albums. I’ve always considered O.C. one of the best. As much as I like this one…Jewelz is a Classic from front back.

Vote for Kevin!

Crazy ill album. One of my favorite soundtracks to 1994.
The super sample tank did the damn thing again. Good looking out.

BTW Buckwild is an ill genius that is still dropping gems today. Big up to DITC.

Here is a missing element from the album, but I can’t make it to easy for you…

Duke Ellington – (1975) The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse – Do a little research, and you can find the chopped sample I used for No Main Topic…

Enjoy

O. Gee. I’m doing the research now. Gotta give me a hint for “Story” off this album?

We also addressed his other classic joint was well.

The main part of Story was from a Eddie Henderson song, but damn that was a long time ago. Everything filtered, and pieced. I will have to dig that up to get you the right album info..

If you can find it before me then you’re real good… I have the SP1200, and Akai 950 disk right here, but Inever use to write info on them… MPC’s make you lazy I guess… LOL

@O.Gee

I think I know what song you sampled in “No Main Topic.” “Gong” its within the first 20-30 seconds of the song. I thought I heard it in another song….but I’m pretty sure about this one.

@O.Gee

The sample is at :52 off of “Gong.”
