I don't understand. I do think it has been slipping since Late Registration, but I can still listen to anything Kanye puts out.

I look at it like this...
Kanye West is dope we all know this, but if this album was a commercial release from a debut artist how do you think that it would be received?
I believe that it would be seen as utter trash from a possible one hit wonder with 'love lockdown' as a single that could maybe embraced by the clubbing crowd.
The fact that it has kanye's name on it is its only savings grace... and even that is not enough to make me want to listen to this more than twice at maximum.

Simple and Plain, everyone has an opinion. In my opinion, it's wack and it's not re-inventing when he's taking the new popularity of the autotune. I thought he was about being fresh and new and this is tired and stale

I'm struggling through this album at the moment for the first time and thought I'd come re-read this review to see if maybe it would help me appreciate some of the finer points that I maybe missed.

Weak is the only word I can think of to describe this. I've alays respected Kanye as an innovator and one of the dopest producers out there. I feel sorry for him that he lost his mother but I feel sorry that he lost his game if this (and to a lesser degree Graduation) are where he's going with his sound. Come back Ye, we miss you.

Look.. I like Kanye too, but making a bad album, because you feel blue is a not an option.. There are plenty of rappers who flet the pain of losing someone, but still focused that energy into delievering a very great album..Sick Jacken got through some of his pain making the album with DJ Muggs, despite his brother not being well. Kanye should have made the album, but should have kept it to himself.. I dont care how real he is, when he's not being at his standard.. And I dont care if I cant see it as exclusive art, but I can see when things aren't right in my eyes, and when fans have to go an extra distance to defend the album, there's something wrong.. I wish I could make everyone see that it isn't that album we were waiting for, and I wish that someone could have stopped mr. West from releasing that. but used it for himseld as a therapy album.. I do really wish Kanye the best, and I am a fan of most of his earlier work but the album isn't great, no matter how real he is..

He is in pain thats why this might seem like a boring album. He isnt dragging u down hes just crying in every song basically because thats how he feels.Life aint peachy right now for him. That may be boring but its as real as it gets.

I think this album went over some peoples heads...i.e: J Fizz...."Whining like a lil hoe". The album is about...hold on...wait...HEARTBREAK! He lost his mother and his relationship went sour, this album was made for Kanye I believe, and not for the people.

Apparently the album went of Isbjergs head too...Welcome To Heartbreak is a pretty easy song to grasp concept wise...hes comparing all the luxurious stuff he has to the stuff that hes missing in his life that actually means something...

I did it... i heard the album from end to end and the results are..

Say you will : The worst first track of all his albums.. The beat is some Amiga500 emotional synth for relaxing and the vocals are awful and too long..
"Hey hey hey hey
Don't say you will
You will you will
Hey hey hey hey"

Welcome to Heartbreak :
"My friend showed me pictures of his kids
And all I could show him was pictures of my cribs
He said his daughter got a brand new report card
And all I got was a brand new sports car"
There is no excuse for poor writing - and the beat doesn't really move me either..

Heartless :
At last a number that doesn't suck that much - The chorus are a bit annoying but it have more appeal that the rest..

Amazing : It's getting better but the theme and the autotune are really getting on your nerves now, so it's good to hear some actual rap by Young Jeezy this time..

Love Lockdown : We all know the mixed feelings with this..

Paranoid : The best way to describe this track is european music contest with synth and glampop written all over it..

Robocop : The best beat on the album - I dig it a lot, but the vocals are really punching in on whole..

Streetlights : Another bad track...He should have had Chris Martin on it instead..

Bad News : Really bad track´with some bad ideas and bad vocals..

Tell Everybody That You Know : Seriously, Ye and weezy together again - no thanx..

Coldest Winter :
"If spring can take the snow away
(If spring can take the snow away)
Can it melt away all of our mistakes
(Can it melt away all of our mistakes)
Memories made in the coldest winter
Goodbye my friend I won't ever love again"
Do I need to say more about this - I am really amazed over his choice to release this...

I cant find words to describe the standard of this album, but he can do better...

i listened to this cd one time. I know your suppossed to give stuff a chance, but i'm just not interested. There is so much great music out there, that theres just no time in a busy shedule (like the one of j fizz's) to be fuckin with mediocre autotuned stuff. Also i see your reviews praising him for having tribal drums. ..... IT aint that hard, its just the ts 808 drum machine he didnt get no african tribes to bring in their sheepskin drums or anything cool. The beats have some nice osunding synths, that he hired someone else to play on keys. I prefer live instrumentation man, guitars, saxophone ,organs,,,,, shit to jam to. At least with samples its takin instruments and also creatin new unheard sounds. I cant feel kanyes emotion cuz hes just selfish. How is he gonna bring in a listener when he just whines like a lil hoe? i just dled The impressions, changing impressions. goddamm that is ill. man the vocal harmonies are ridic, check it out yall itsl ike 43 years old but its dope.
peace

i'm sorry but where is the soul, the real, like dmx said where the hood at? too many black artist are trying to be something they are not which is pop artist. just like Beyonce's cd, it sounds like a Rhianna knock off. I was expecting some hot beats and introspective mic skills but got more T-pain ish garbage, funny thing is his cd sounds better than Ye's because at least it has some soul to it. what our young artist don't realize is that white people are forever wanting to be like cool like Black people so why try to be white, let your blackness shine and be true to your self. there are enough pop artist out there.

It's hard to find immense good, but one thing I love about the album is the use of the African (tribal) drums to hold the beat...raw, simple & refreshing.
