Today we see the release of Snares and Cinema from two of our loyal followers: Tokyo Cigar and DutchMaster coming together as Black Tobacco. See what they have to say about the project….
“Snares and Cinema marks the first collaboration between Maryland-based artists Tokyo Cigar and DutchMasters, making music together under the performing name of Black Tobacco. After meeting in a production competition on www.kevinnottingham.com, a mutual respect led to a track, “Summer of the 90′s”, featuring lyrics by Tokyo Cigar and production by DutchMasters. More tracks followed, and Snares and Cinema is the result of a year of emailing tracks back and forth on the internet. Many of the themes of the album comes from each’s love for film, old and new; the sounds of the album are a progression from that. The album transitions from harder, mechanical synthesizers to warmer horns and strings. It is an album that comes from the heart, from a love for pure hip hop, while at the same time pushing hard against the limits of the genre. Enjoy with a smoke and a pancake.”
