Lost, Frost, and Hip Hop

  1. Lost on Wednesday night my friends. It is arguably the best Prime Time Non HBO show to hit the boob tube in a very long time. As you all know, I’m a huge Movie buff, but, ever since I had career ending surgery at the end of 2007, my love for TV has elevated beyond belief. Lost, at this point is hitting some crucial territory and is beginning to answer some long lost questions that many people have. I told the homie, Freddie C, about a book I got about a week ago, Philosophy and Lost, and I can’t be more excited to get this season started knowing that I can apply plenty of my nerd-theories and hold on for the ride. I can’t say much about the show without saying any spoilers, but I do recommend it to just about anyone. It has entertainment value for all the casual watchers, it has tremendous in depth analysis for all the nerds out there, it has plenty of mystery for all the crime fans, and it has loads of wit, educative value, and commentary. It is, without a doubt, one of my addictions. 24 is still amazing, by any means, and of course it’s addictive, who hasn’t pulled their own 24 in 24? This season does seem promising.

  2. Living in Canada comes with its perks. The obvious: free health care, beautiful women, drama-free lifestyle, sport crazy fans, and again, beautiful women. However, it’s freaking cold out here these days. Hitting the -30 and -40 marks (in Celsius), black ice on the road, and having to shovel snow don’t fit in the good books of perks. Granted it is one thing I love and hate about this country, particularly my city. I, unlike most, prefer Winter to Summer, certainly a unique opinion. Whatever though, when Kev visits the North, he’ll plow a few driveways….hiyoooo

  3. So, 2008 is done. Finally. That is evident from all of my lists. Once again, big thanks to the readers who checked it out and continue to support the movement. Nevertheless, 2009 hasn’t done anything yet. I guess that’s nothing new, the first month is usually quiet. What should I keep an eye out for? What will be the biggest first quarter release? Will 2009 be stronger than 2008? Was 2008 stronger than 2007? All questions we need to ponder in order to analyze the rise (or fall) of hip hop and music as they come and go. I’m excited about the Brother Ali album. If he can make it 3 for 3, Hip Hop will have no choice but to start acknowledging him the same way buyers noticed Atmosphere in 2008. Keep an eye out for everything though and give the heads up. We are busy people here at K Nots.

Peace

nice post deez!.. albums to be hyped for:

1) k’naan – troubadour
k’naan throws down one of the BEST live concerts i’ve ever seen. his first album was an underground fire starter, and troubadour is destined for greatness. he recorded the album inside bob marley’s home studio in jamaica. that’s RIDICULOUS. after touring with the marley’s, and collaborating with mos def, k’naan is bound to come out with some serious heat.

2) k-os – yes!
it’s 2009. and as of right now, k-os is a better rapper than mos def. he’s also got a far better voice than mos def. i think this will be the album that earns k-os that level of well-deserved respect.

Lost comes back tomorrow night and I JIZZED IN MY PANTS.

Everything about that show is so dope. You genuinely care what happens to the characters because the backstories hook you in. And you can write volumes on the philosophy of that show (and they have). And shit is insane how everything and everyone is connected somehow. It’s ridiculous

MAN UP DEEZ. If I can ditch the hoodies and Timbs for stockings and things for work – and survive – you can do it too ! Wear a toque! =)

Kev, come toughen up in a REAL winter.

10 S.Shorey January 20, 2009 at 9:02 pm

66 Degrees? Farenheit? Lol. Dayam, thats honestly pretty much summer over here man.

11 Thomas January 20, 2009 at 9:21 pm

29 F here in Maryland, but with the windchill it was in single digits.

12 Freddie C January 20, 2009 at 10:50 pm

oh and about the Frost part: it was 79 degrees F here in San Diego. I wore shorts and a t-shirt today. It was great.

13 Sean Deez January 20, 2009 at 11:43 pm

wow..

a huge middle finger to all of you guys hahha

eA.. i would wear a toque, but unfortunately don’t have one that doesn’t cover my face as I try to wear it. I ain’t trying to have my toque higher than an ‘89 Posdnuos fade mannnnnn

Fred, put on some pants, no one needs to see those legs

Young, I’m from Toronto. Thought all my contests and stuff and other Deez Steez made that clear lol

It’s alright yo!! I’ll keep repping Toronto more than Kardi! (apparently he reps it everywhere he goes, according to Akon, in our interview: http://kevinnottingham.com/2009/01/05/lets-talk-with-akon/

BOOM

15 Young K January 21, 2009 at 12:13 am

what other Toronto artists have you talked with?

16 Sean Deez January 21, 2009 at 12:26 am

G, are we gonna hit up that K’naan show or what? And I’ve heard bits of the YES! album. Sounds different. Hard to top Joyful Rebellion for the rest of his career though

Young, I’m working on trying to get some talk with Tona. But I mean, I just gave you Shad and will be giving you Ayah ahahah, what more do you want? Scott Storch?!

17 Young K January 21, 2009 at 4:03 pm

lol I donno that shad thing was cool tho. Not really into Mr. Storch lol How bout tryin to sit down with JD Era? are you a fan?

18 Sean Deez January 23, 2009 at 4:02 am

JD Era is actually opening for Gza when he gets here. You’ll hear more noise from the North on this site though K… Get your friends and your friend’s friends paying attention!

also check out the real frequency blog that we are heavily affiliated with, because they drop a lot of home grown content

19 Young K January 23, 2009 at 3:52 pm

I shall, I asked bout Era cuz i’m close to his management and a fan of his shit. Of course he dont use my beats LMAO!, hopefully soon tho…
