Illmatic Beat Contest: Week 9

As I’m downloading and compiling all the beats submitted from last week, here’s thing week’s sample. Before we get into it, just a heads up. We’ve had some issues as far as scheduling conflits and time constraints that have really thrown the judges off from getting winners picked for weeks 6 and on. Instead of disrupting your groove, we’re gonna play the contest out to the end of week 10. Winners will be chosen for all 10 weeks (weeks 1-5 have already been picked and posted); it just may be a few weeks before they all are announced. Again, Trav has big plans for this project and I think looking at putting it out sometime in May. Ok, on to this week’s sample…

If you thought last weeks sample was tough to flip, just wait til you give this one a try! For the ninth track on Illmatic, DJ Premier laced the beat for “Represent” with a sample by Lee Erwin. The track is called “The Thief of Bagdad”. I really can’t wait to hear what you guys cook up with this one. Again, check the rules if you’re new and wanna hop in… and good luck!

    I tried sampling a different part but it just wasn’t happenin lol. So I took the same part and chopped it different. For the chorus I layered it with a pitched up version of the sample.
