The Turnaround – A Long Awaited Drama: Original Samples

Real Live

We’re gonna keep Foundation Fridays going with a brand new sample set. But I’m gonna be perfectly honest with you, I’m not familiar with this album at all. After a bit of research, I did learn that Real Live is the 1996 collaboration of K-Def and Larry-O. Apparently hailed by many as a true hip hop classic, The Turnaround: A Long Awaited Drama makes for an amazing sample set.

We can’t take credit for this set either. KevinNottingham.com reader Omey hit Thomas and I up and said he wanted to put this set together. He handed us the track/credits and we put our smack on it. And here it is. Thanks to Omey… and if anyone else wants to help contribute, we’ll take all the help we can get!

I’m confident that our sets have not only shed some light on the production of albums – it’s also shed light on the albums themselves. Folks are often inclined to check out an album if the sample set is appealing. I’m curious to hear what The Turnaround is all about… :D

Yo Kev,this original album was a certified banger, just for the beats alone.Lyrically,it was ok,but the tracks were on some true 90’s boom bap ish.The Real Live Shit remix put the icing on the cake with the likes of cappadonna/ghostface killah/killa sin & lord tariq

OH MY GOD. This album was a banger. Like s.t.t.r.e.s.s. said production on this joint was crazy. One of the best ( and most slept on ) produced albums of the 90’s.

K def was so nice with the beats i wonder why cats never gave him his just due. He popped off with Da youngstas and lords of the underground but this album was his magnum opus. Brilliant production for real.

Peace to Omey, Kev and Thomas for this one.

YO, THIS ALBUM WAS CRIMINALLY SLEPT ON. IT CAME OUT DURING THE WHOLE “CUBAN LINX” ERA SO YOU KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT LYRICALLY, BUT THE BEATS ARE CRAZY HOT EVEN TO THIS DAY.

This album is a hard to find banger . I had da chance 2 buy it like 2 months ago and it was only 15 euros (damn !!!). If u c it, don’t even hesitate to cop it cuz unless u a clown, u won’t be disappointed. Larry O is on point with da lyrics and K DEF is definilty a beast. it’s one of the most slept on / underated albums of all times . period.

K-Def is definitely slept on, just like Buckwild & Ericksermon, PF Cuttin, Dj Spinna’s homeboy Jocmax, Some of the beats on the All City Metropolis Gold album… man….. I can keep going so Im gonna end it hahaha

There are A few Sample albums I have always wanted and this was one of them, and off the top…. Kwest the mad Lad’s 1st joint, Cella Dwellas 1st jawn, Wascals, etc…. hahahaa

Crime is money – Dope dope sample…..

K-Def is a beast. I remember jammin’ this in blockbuster when they let you listen to any disc in the store. By the time i got to “Money and shows” I dug in my pocket, took out 20 bones and proceeded to the register. Larry O wasn’t that impressive, but the tracks FAR outweighed any missteps on the mic. That dude should be considered a legend in the game.
