Most Ridiculous Sample: Flo Rida Edition

by Carsten on March 29, 2009 · 39 comments

This one should start some discussions.  I was adding Flo Rida’s new LP R.O.O.T.S. to our RapCredits site (which has turned into a great source for samples) when I noticed that track number 12, “Sugar”, samples and interpolates the song “I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee)” from the Italian electronic dance trio Eifel 65 which contains one of the most stupid hooks in pop music.

I really can’t comprehend the thoughts of DJ Montay who is responsible for the beat, but build your own opinion and listen to both tracks below.

“Sugar” by Flo Rida (feat. Wynter)
Produced by DJ Montay

i’m just in awe at the bollox it took to make that track.

2 Frozen Atlantic March 29, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Dag. That is…some unfortunate shit.

3 flip March 29, 2009 at 1:47 pm

i think most of the blame should go to Rida for actually picking this beat and rap about it. shameful!!

4 Marcha March 29, 2009 at 1:49 pm

fucked up my day :(

5 hellyeah March 29, 2009 at 1:50 pm

today hip hop/rap music reached a new low………..this is one of the worst songs ever….why would anyone sample it??? all that euro crap has to stop ASAP

6 f.scat.fitzgerald March 29, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Probably be a number one, worldwide hit, while we sit here grinding our teeth….

7 TS March 29, 2009 at 3:00 pm

I’m Blue was such a great song when it came out. I remember hearing it on the radio like 24/7. The music video was kinda weird though.

8 MuK March 29, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Aaaa, why you are talking like this. “I’m Blue” is very good song :D When I was young I was listening to it, it was very cool :D And the video is nice :D
But I don’t like Flo Rida’s song. Actually I don’t like most of Flo Rida’s songs….

9 MidWizz March 29, 2009 at 3:39 pm

I think that people like Flo Rida do nothing good for hip-hop

10 Sean Deez March 29, 2009 at 3:49 pm

12 Thomas March 29, 2009 at 5:26 pm

I’ve never checked for Flo Rida’s music and this won’t make me start!

13 Lil Ish March 29, 2009 at 5:49 pm

flo-rida is not rapper is a pop artist. for a rapper he is terrible. for a pop artist, he is alright.
i wouldn’t mind dancing to this in partys or something but the lyrics are wack as usual.
i am most angry at Dj Montay for making this beat cuz i know he could do better.

14 Tommylux March 29, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Well… whack rappers will rap over whack beats that sample whack things… just callin a spade a spade. Mind you, I’ve heard some great producers make terrific beats outta the most obscure and horrible original sample, so you might as well blame the producer for this one

15 One Mic March 29, 2009 at 6:44 pm

OMFG! I’m speechless, it’s that bad! I wish I could just erase my memory a la Men in Black!

16 Psymun March 29, 2009 at 9:09 pm

hey i heard this shit somewhere the other day and couldn’t believe how ridiculous it was. but good thing it’s flo rida and not nas or something haha you know what i’m sayin?

17 JarrJohnson March 29, 2009 at 10:02 pm

The track speaks for itself.

18 D. Dee March 30, 2009 at 3:41 am

My God, FLO Rida Is Cheezy as Hell..

19 SoulClap March 30, 2009 at 6:24 am

LOL

20 Bongholio Iglesias March 30, 2009 at 7:44 am

Worst. Crap. EVER.

Period.

21 JJS1 March 30, 2009 at 8:11 am

I Cant Tell If Its Like Some Really Bad Joke Or The Real Thing, THE WORTS SAMPLE EVER…

22 DeejayHarris March 30, 2009 at 9:12 am

Tried to jump on the success of an old skool joint and epically FAILED, can’t stand FloRidas monotonous flow anyway…

23 Cenzo March 30, 2009 at 11:28 am

hate it or love it. this will be a hit. at least in europe.

but i think this eurodance sampling has to stop.
flo rida sucks anyway. only little kids will buy this shit, so why are you havin strong feelings about him?!

24 Chris March 30, 2009 at 12:12 pm

It’s Flo-Rida, people, not Jay, Nas or Em. He makes party records!!! I may not be bump this at the crib or car, but I think Hip Hop needs to get some of the party element back. I think that people forget that “Planet Rock” was electro-drums (808s) and European artist (Kraftwerk) samples. HAHAHA Sorry, purists, I knew you wouldn’t like that. We are too critical on our own craft sometimes.

25 GeeTee March 30, 2009 at 9:07 pm

Lmao at comment #15…u ain’t lying. This is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. This is not Hip-Hop Chris, u can make a party track like 50 Cent In Da Club or Snoop Dogg Drop it Like it’s Hot, but this shit sucks!!

26 Thomas March 30, 2009 at 9:57 pm

I agree Chris that all types of rap music is necessary. I’m pretty sure I would shake my shoulders….lol in the club if I went to clubs to this song. But I don’t….so I don’t want to listen to this in my car or on my tv. This will be a hit……it has it written all over it, but comparing this to “Planet Rock”…nah.

This is not “Planet Rock” or Jay’s “Sunshine”/”It’s Alright” or MC Lytes “Cha Cha Cha”. They all used Kraftwork samples.

That’s like comparing “Stanky Legg” to “Deep Cover”.

I’m not hatin’…..there is a place in music for Flo Rida’s song….it is hip hop, but I just don’t like it….or his music.

27 Random Guy April 2, 2009 at 4:55 pm

I used to listen to this when i was 11 or 12 years old, during my secondary school days LOL!

28 Victor April 3, 2009 at 11:46 am

LOL that song was big when i was a kid, but truly horrible stuff. Makes sampling a joke as a craft when its such a horrible song in the first place, it didnt help that whoever thought it was a bright idea to produce it barely changed it up. Despicable stuff.

29 JizzleBeatz aka Fie Traxx April 3, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Flo-Rida ain’t stupid though. He has been making some questionable moves with his songs but he is probably stacking so much paper from this stuff right now.

30 RAP SUCKS April 8, 2009 at 9:43 pm

Flo Rida sucks and his music sucks even worse. Writing a song about a blow job – and song that 10 year olds are singing because parents are too stupid to filter music. Hip Hop was fun, some RAP music is great – but these assholes that put out stupid, low class, retarded RAP songs that talk about sex, guns, violence – all they do is damage kids.

What dogshit stuff.

31 Slozy April 12, 2009 at 11:07 pm

I can’t believe he ruined that song with his ‘ hip new fresh ‘ version. That was a good 80’s song, and now look at it. He turned it into a blowjob song, and a bunch of kids are listening to it now…. -.- Very disappointing.

Makes smoke blow out my ears.

32 MItchell April 16, 2009 at 8:34 am

Rap and hip-hop is so unoriginal. This is a waste of my time. I don’t imagine he payed anything to use that song either.

33 Blah May 1, 2009 at 12:36 am

Ugh >_>
I know that people only like “Sugar” because of the I’m blue catchy-ness.

34 gabz May 5, 2009 at 10:02 pm

So great. BLUE DABA DI was a GREAT SONG!!!!

Gabz from fattykoo

35 Burkey May 8, 2009 at 7:00 pm

“Right Round” is another cheesy sample from “You Spin Me Right Around” by Dead or Alive, this man has no shame…………..

36 Jeje May 20, 2009 at 2:56 am

I think the song is great and verry addictive, cut the Crap.

37 ALI May 30, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Cum on ppl its not tht bad its not a bad track compared 2 what normally flo rida comes out with??

38 chrisfromgermany July 27, 2009 at 11:57 pm

No, Flo Rida didn`t use the worst sample, Rihanna did. Usually, I`m a big fan of her, but in one track called “Live your life”, she and T.I. performed over a sample from “Dragostea din tei” from the eastern european pop group O-Zone, covererd by Haiducii.
