Sample of The Day

This week we are going to highlight briefly some of the music that helped shape that “West Coast sound”.  We’re gonna post the original track for your listening pleasure and some information on some of the West Coast artist who sampled the track.

First up, we have the group Zapp.  Zapp originated from Dayton, Ohio and was comprised (originally) of five brothers: Larry, Roger, Lester, Tony, and Terry.   The band was led by the multi-talented Roger who was not only the lead vocalist, but an arranger, composer, bass, and guitarist.

Today we are gonna focus on their first top hit “More Bounce to the Ounce”.  That bassline and “get, get on the dance floor”….classic.  Peep this joint for your listening pleasure.

Love the idea of showing the background of the music by delving into the samples that helped shape the sound of hip-hop. Original and of great value to anyone interested in the history of the culture.

Quick suggestion: given that the mp3 plays inline, it would be great to have an ajax comment form so we could post comments without interrupting the song.
