Here we go… another new weekly remix contest! We’ve been doing these for a while now. Our first remix contest we concentrated on New York Hip Hop, then we kept it scrictly 90s. Most recently we remixed Nas’ classic Illmatic for Trav Williams’ new album IllTravis. Now I want you all to go in on another classic — Jay-Z‘s The Blueprint. The idea for these weekly remix contest all started when we were collecting the American Gangster remix albums about a year and a half ago. It all started with Jay… so I’m taking it back this time. Tons of people have remixed American Gangster and The Black Album, however not too many people have touched Jay’s 2001 classic, The Blueprint. Is it because it’s as close to a perfect album as one can get? Not sure. The production on this album is flawless, in my opinion, so this contest will prove to be tough. In the same sense as our Illmatic Beat Contest, we will be using the original samples from The Blueprint to remix the songs. So this is similar to that contest in a sense. The one difference is that we’re gonna give you the acapella and you’ll have to lay that down on top. Now that we’ve gotten the introduction out of the way, hit the jump for contest details and this week’s tracks.
Here’s how it’ll go down… for 13 weeks, we will hold a weekly contest… 13 weeks/13 remixes. Each Sunday I will provide the sample to be flipped for the week and the acapella to be laid over your beat. You will have one week to complete your remix. Entries will be taken until 3:00pm Eastern Daylight Time the following Sunday. For those of you overseas, make sure to get your clocks right. Once all beat entries have been accepted, the judges will take the next week to listen and comment on those beats. At the end of each week, I’ll post up the judges’ comments, their picks, and the winner for the week.
RULES TO SUBMIT HAVE CHANGED. PLEASE READ BELOW.
To submit your entry: Upload your finished remix in mp3 format to one of your favorite file sharing locations (ie, Rapidshare, MediaFire, MegaUpload, ZShare, etc) and submit via the web form posted for that week. You can sill post your remixes in the comments to get feedback from other contestants, but for your remix to be considered it must be send using the online web form in the post for that week. DO NOT put your links in the CBOX. There is no registration process and anyone can enter at anytime.

Week 1
Let’s start at the top! The opening track to The Blueprint, “The Ruler’s Back” produced by BINK, uses the amazing sample “If” by Jackie Moore. Inspired by the Slick Rick track of the same name, Jay let everyone know that this album was gonna be something special. Reflip the Jackie Moore classic for a brand new beat that will be the opening track for our Blueprint Remixtape. Good luck!
