KMD comprised of Zev Love X (later known as DOOM), DJ Subroc, and Onyx the Birthstone Kid. There sophomore effort was scheduled for release on Elektra Records in 1994, but was shelved indefinitely because of the controversial cover art and lyrics.  Dante Ross (VP of A&R at Elektra at that time) discussed the circumstances surrounding (page 29) the group/album being dropped in the the first issue of HHCdigital.

The album was finally released in 2001 on Sub Verse Records and re-released by DOOM in 2008.  The samples include music from Melvin Van Peebles, Kain, Melvin Bliss, Jody Watley, and others.  Major props to Onez for dropping another dope set on us! Info and link after the jump…

i feel you tokyo, this was surprising. ITs also exciting because i dont recognize any of these tracks.

I needa sample the track they used on “Smokin that Shit” that is one of the illest basslines i have heard.

  • Neal (Daysun)

I really heart me when this album did not come out. I am dating myself but if you were a fan of the song peach fuzz, the groups third base, brand nubians, or the production crew stimulated dummies you were pulling you teeth out waiting on this.

  • messie

    sick…
you forgot a classic tho: ‘Contact Blitt’ – Sampled from “Mr. Kenyatta ” – Lee Morgan (Search for the New Land)

  • Iceberg Ferg

Lee Morgan’s ‘Mr. Kenyatta’ is the best jazz loop ever chopped. It’s sampled for ‘Contact Blitt’.

  • 44th Parallel

this album was dirty!i had to pay 40 bucks to buy the cd

  • Thomas

You could have gotten the album online or at Best Buy cheaper than that.

  • tripledouble

daamn. one of my absolute favorite records, period.
regarding the cover…the first time i saw it, in the source, you could see the sambo had white wrists. a lot of the LP was about white dudes perpetrating in hiphop (parkerlewis in the title track) and a lot of race related commentary. hanging white kids trying to be black was what i saw the album saying. on all subsequent releases, the sambo’s wrists were black, so i dont know why it got changed.

anyway. one of the best records ever. props to ya for putting this together

  • tripledouble

btw cant believe i’m just finding this site. procrastination fodder for days
