Mos Def: Casa Bey

Here’s some exclusive new Mos Def; the title track off his new album, Casa Bey. The album drops June 9th and features guest spots from Talib Kweli and Slick Rick and production from Oh No, Chad Hugo, Mad Lib, Mr. Flash and the late J. Dilla, among others.  “Casa Bey” is a song based on a sample of Banda Black Rio‘s “Casa Forte” with Mos rappin’ a mile-a-minute word over top. The story behind the beat has it that on a recent trip to South America, Mos linked up with well-known Brazilian rapper MV Bill, who gave him a tape with “Casa Forte” on it. Mos Def loved the track so much that when he came home, he turned to DJ Preservation and Dante Smith to (barely) cut it up into a beat, forming the instrumental. Shouts to Diego!

Mos gettin’ our brazilian groove, haha.
This track Casa Nova is from the album Maria Fumaça. The Banda Black Rio was a great funk band on the 70′s/80′s here on brazil. Damn Mos, i didn’t know you came here recently (talib came here last year). Ish. I feel kinda honored for having Mos def rhyming over a brazilian sample. Thanks for this Kev

LOL at the immediate Drake reference. This is very dope, Mos back on the road to redemption (after “True Wack Shit”).

Drake? You guys serious? He ain’t even on the same level as Mos Def.

Anyways great track. Good vibe to it, hopefully the rest of the album has the same feel to it.

Lot of albums out this summer; anyone know when Reflection Eternal 2 comes out? What about Talib Kweli’s Prisoner of Conciousness? Has this even been confirmed?

yeah, you can hear like 7 other tracks from this album on YouTube. i’m really feeling this track, The Glow, & Life Is Good. Also, I can’t wait to hear the studio version of “Auditorium” where he’s rapping over Madlib’s “Movie Finale” beat w/ Slick Rick !

I wouldn’t want to be a rapper…cause people love you one day….you get a little shine…go to New York and take over the airwaves and sell out shows (without an album out) and hate begins.

Damn we as Hip Hop fans needs to breath a little. I’m included in what I say as well.

Like the song…want to hear more. I need some of the Mos that was on the video where he said he would kill Wayne, Jay, 3000, etc in a battle.

Can I say “Thank You” this song/beat has been stuck in my head for a while. I was wondering where in the world the beat came from.

Big Up’s to Mos man, can’t wait till the LP drop.
