H.I.S.D. (Hueston Independent Spit District) was born in 2005 through the collaboration of eight artists of varying mediums wanting to introduce a refreshing perspective to the sound and visual aesthetic of hip hop culture, classic soul music, poetry, visual art, fashion, and photography.
Mutual respect and appreciation for the cultural significance and influence achieved by creatively bridging these art forms, brought Savvi (hip hop artist/entrepreneur), Equality (poet/writer/emcee/architect/visual artist), LdaVoice (emcee), Scottie Spitten aka Lenoge(emcee), plus GoldenSoulClassics which consist of producers, King Midas, Soul One (DJ/radio personality), E-Classic, and Jason “Flash Gordon Parks” Woods (photographer/DJ), together to form H.I.S.D. Get to know them after the cut…

Main musical inspirations:
S. Spitten: Main musical inspirations: As far as hip hop artist go, I would have to say Rakim as a youngin’, and as I started growing up Tribe and De La became my favorite group, but Keith Murray and Redman were the one’s who made me want to start writing for real. Lyrically those two cats were right up my alley. To be honest I’m inspired by anybody making good music. Now, MF Doom probably inspires me more than any artist right now. Pharoh Monch too. You talk about cats who lyrically are on another level. LOL
If you had to pick one song that defines your career to date, what song would that be?
SoulOne: “Sir Duke” – Stevie Wonder
Why should the readers and fans give you a shot and listen to your music from here on out?
Ldavoice: We offer a fresh take on the stuff that you grew up on. If you’re like us and are fans of the whole “Native Tongues” movement and all that it spawned, Fresh beats, creative rhymes, something you don’t feel ashamed to let ya moms hear, then you’ll love what’s coming from HISD. We add a fresh blend to something that you’re familiar with.
What’s next for you?
Savvi: Well, We got a new Album in the works slated to drop in the fall. Hopefully a tour to go along with the album.
Desert Island Hip Hop: If you could only take one record on a deserted island with you, what album would that be?
King Midas: Marvin Gaye “I want you” or A Tribe Called Quest “Midnight Marauders” Don’t make me choose.
Flash GP: It would be Outkast “Aquemini”..not because it’s my favorite Hip Hop album but it’s one of the most sonically well put together albums out. I think the balance of it would serve me well in this Gilligan like scenario…
Any shout outs or last words?
