Eminem: First Video Interview Ever! [Exclusive]

Major, major props go out to my man Matt from Coalmine for giving us the first exclusive look on this Eminem video interview from 1998. This is the first video interview Eminem ever did and it’s been locked in the vaults until now. Hit the jump for more details on the video above…

Back in 1998, UGHH’s CEO Quest tests the high waters of big things to come as he ventures into the bowels of the since extinct Club Hibernia in the heart of downtown Boston to garner attention for an UndergroundHipHop.com website he was just beginning to develop at the time. Using his 8mm camera, the valiant young entrepreneur captures Eminem 10 years ago in the first video interview ever conducted with the then blossoming vanilla boy wonder. Tagged on to the end of this twelve minute time-capsule, a highly intoxicated Royce Da 5’9″ accompanies Eminem in the basement of Boston’s infamous Middle East nightclub to discuss the origins of “Bad Meets Evil”, their collaboration for the then newly released Slim Shady LP. Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg reminds Eminem of having met Quest / UGHH before the Slim Shady LP release in another section of the city, to which Eminem (whose ego has exponentially expanded) exclaims, “Before we were dicks. Now we’re BIG DICKS!”

Yooo I was there that night of the first interview. Lyricist Lounge tour stop was at Avalon on Landsdown St. Em was the opening act….first on stage. But after his set, he chilled in the crowd the rest of the night and made fans. Even got into a cypher outside after. Still got the “Just Don’t Give a Fuck” 12″ signed by him to this day lol

What a difference a year makes? Money is the most addictive drug known to man. Good is though. The interviewed was taken aback by his behavior and look.

Thats why we all do what we do. To reach that dream, yo he went platinum in a fuckin year. I know he did a lot of work before that but he made it big in one year. I hope all the producers on this site reaches their dreams of makin it big

Quest here – the one who filmed that interview.
Nick – that’s dope you were there too. Em was the opening act of the LL tour and I remember when Royce came out on stage with him, I was standing in the way back and thinking “oh shit that’s Dr. Dre!” Then I cleared up my eyes and realized it wasn’t Dr. Dre. I had no idea who it was until Royce introduced himself while I was interviewing Eminem and explained he also had an album coming out, etc. At the time, Royce had no music really out.

Damn Marshall was high as a kite back then and he sounded really dumb and his teeth were a mess. But I guess he simply couldn’t afford shit back then so….what an amazing journey mister Marshall Mathers.
