Prodigy vs Skillz vs Rick Ross

When I first heard Rick Ross’s “Magnificent” I immediately recognized the sample.  The first artist/song that came to mind was Skillz’s song “Imagine.”   Then Keenan reminded me in the C-Box that Prodigy used the same sample for a song on his H.N.I.C. album.

Three different topics discussed by each rapper…the Bawse’s song is more flashy while Skillz is kicking an ill story and Prodigy gives us some insight into his sickness.

Well lets get to the fun.  Who Spit It Better?

That is one of my favourite Prodigy songs. I’ll even say one of my favourite Mobb Deep songs all together. Its just raw emotion, and those lyrics really strike a chord with me. Easy vote for me.

Love the personal topic of Prodigy’s song. I remember reading back when his album came out (2000) that he wanted T-Boz on the song because she has sickle cell as well.

Skillz’s joint is just an ill story…..but P for me.

  • CEELOS

Prodigy’s is the most heartfelt. My personal favourite the beat has so much pain.I never heard the skills track but its straight but P wins this.

Definitely Prodigy, song is so raw and emotional, although the Skillz joint has some sick storytelling.

Rick Fucking Ross. Get the fuck out of here man.

P wins this hands down, the last great album of the 90′s if i recall right, a fucking epic album, Alchemist beats, even an unknown Just Blaze sample.

Just checked, came out Nov 2000.

but i heard many of the tracks in 99 so fuck it.

  • Keenan

yea it’s def p, i would even argue that “you can never feel my pain” is p’s best solo song ever

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

P’s best solo song to me is “Quiet Storm.” Even tho this is a “Mobb Deep” song….it was a P solo for his album.

  • RIC

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the Skillz track sampling “Hubert Laws – Land of Passion”? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSugmvCYt6M

And I’ve been following your blog for quite some time Kev, keep up the good work man!

You could be right……the vocals sounded the same.

  • Patrick

Also, the Jugganots used this same Angela Bofill sample on their song called “namesake” off the album Use Your Confusion. Also, I wish producers would sample more Angela Bofill records. She made a lot of beautiful songs.

  • Mr. Eight Four

Kev. recheck the C-box. I dropped the dime on the HNIC Sample. You can’t feel my pain was my favorite song off the joint.

I aint d*ck ridin or nothin, just want correct props. 1

  • Fame

P just made the song personal which set the track off!!!…… Skills still did his dag tho…..

  • Thomas

RIC is right….Land of Passion is the correct sample for the Skillz song. The version of the Land of Passion I have doesn’t have vocals on it…..anyhoo…no biggie…..Cause P wins anyway.

    My bad to all!

  • Napaj

Justice league put it down with the beat. P put it down with da lyrics. somebody should put that together

Prodigy all day! Skillz my dude from VA and all that. but you cant touch the emotion on the P cut.

    What happened to Prodigy?
