The Blueprint 2009: Week 5 Entries

by Kevin on May 25, 2009

Sorry it took me awhile to get these up… it’s been one hell of a weekend for me.. haha. But anyway, Week 5 of our remix contest was a special week. The reason being that there were no stipulations on the remixes. That’s right, we let the producers take their gloves off and go head to head with their own unique sound. This week, more than ever, let us know who’s who and how it is that you do. 45 of you all came out and did your thing with Jay-Z’s “Jigga That N****.” Hit the jump to check them out…

Kinetic-I love the sample you used. Took it in a totally different direction but it worked LOVELY. That crazy Henry the fifth vibe. :-) (thanks Tokyo Cigar!)

@kinetic – Are you also posting them in the submission box under the description above the comments? That’s the only way the submissions are received by Kevin.

  • kinetic

EB Pro – You lost me this week…. I didnt really feel the music and vocals connect… Music’s cool, but..
G.C. – Nice vibe… I hear some nice mid 90s mood in this… With that sound you could have done some KMD..
RazorSHARPE – Very nice joint.. Some few loud samples…
Cory Hall – Commodore 64 Hova… I do really like your sound..
Tokyo – Your Original samples just exploded on Jigga ? Damn, you chop them breaks..A bit untight in the end..
STTRESS – What a wicked ride… I didnt see it coming and I wanna see it again..
Mastam!nd – I like the production, but I feel Jay gets lost in the joint.. Im not feeling Jigga in this..
Cralias – I like the energy – Im missing some of the details in your mix.. The levels on some of your details are incorrect..
Var – A nice summer warm track.. I felt Heat waves and got burned..
Kinetic – I felt Black adder and cool on this…
Bidimridim – Good idea.. running with the vibe..
Young K – Catchy joint… I get the nice just blaze idea coming up..
    RNP – Yes ! Rubin dude… Nice touch and a nice winner…
Phur – My soulbrotha… Good one.. or two..
DutchMasters – Damn, thats some spacy rides… I like that approach..

Ah, yeah, I’m sorry Kinetic… I implemented a submission form for this remix contest and that’s the only way that I’ve been taking remixes. The comments were just getting too crazy for me to keep up with and the emails are way easier for me to keep track of the submissions.

  • RNP

good lookin out Isbjerg and Ozzie O.. appreciate it

sttress: the drums and progression were dope..
rooklin: drums are ill, but some variation would have kept the track flowin better
dutchmasters: one of my favs this week
isbjerg: the double snare keeps the track flowing well and compliments the sample well, good use

overall another good week fam.. this isnt getting any easier..

GC What s the sample you used for the track?..cause dre use it on a track from detox i m been wondering what it was

  • grady

    @G.C…no really..did u sample the dre??..

  • http://www.myspace.com/gc88e G.C.

I didn’t sample Dre, the name of the sample is “Got To Be There” by the Lovelites.

  • Tommylux

    so many dope remixes…
    44th Productions – straight fire
Bidimridim – interesting sound that fits the song’s rhythm well
EB Productions – nice laid-back groove
G.C. – you always manage to bring a dope vibe to songs, this one’s no exception
Ijsberg – damn, where’d you dig up that deep funk groove, sounds almost like it’s lifted from a porn movie
Que Rico – it doesn’t get any funkier than that
Razorhsape – sticks out to me because of that lovely guitar (sampled or played?)
    RNP – simply kicks ass$

basically everybody did a great job, there are loads of less obvious sounds that I felt didn’t really suit Jay well but were nevertheless flawlessly put together, sometimes I wonder if y’all aren’t some kind of studio interns or incognito veteran producers..

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Kevin

G.C. — never, EVER, reveal your sample sources… lol… ahhhhh, what I’m I gonna do with you… haha

  • http://www.o2andmoose.com/ Ozzie O

Just listened to G.C.’s and it is DOPE, awesome vibe. Very cheerful.

  • grady

    ..just so u know.. kevin
(trying real hard to stay polite right now)
@gc i actually appreciate u sharing..been wondering if it was a chop a loop or a replay that dre had used for that track, cause the bass comes in sharply..good looking out..
    Big fan of ur work

  • http://www.myspace.com/gc88e G.C.

@grady – Thanks for sharing, now I see what you are saying about sampling Dre…kinda nice to think that Dre and I share similar sampling taste, though! Thanks again for the love, I appreciate it.
