Moving forward off the success of his hit single “Family Guy” (inspired by Fox’s hit television series and new series entitled “The Cleveland Show”), Phoenix Jones (2006 Ohio Hip Hop Awards Best Male Artist nominee, 2006 & 2008 Ohio Hip Hop Awards Lyricist of the Year nominee) teams up with one of Canada’s premier DJs in Chong Wizard to produce one of the hottest mix cds to hit the streets this year. Fueled by cross country national dj support of “Family Guy” and an intense grass roots internet marketing campaign, this masterpiece is what Cleveland listeners (as well as listeners across the globe) have been anxiously anticipating.
With features from over 15 rising Cleveland hip-hop artists, Phoenix and Chong have utilized their prescence on the internet as well as the streets to gather a plethora of talent and present them on an international level “The reason I constantly work with Chong is his enthusiasm for the craft, its on the same level as mine” says Phoenix Jones.
With this solid dj/emcee friendship, these two have molded raw tracks that Phoenix has compiled over the last year and forged a true hip hop conniseur’s dream. Family Guy Mixtape is more of an LP for Jones featuring over 50% of the tracks as original productions. ” I like to work with new producers, and i have a squad of cats here (in Atlanta, GA) that i build with on a daily basis” Jones comments. This project is really a triangulation of sorts, where Chong is based out of Vancouver, BC, Canada, Phoenix is working out of Atlanta, and the project being a child of Cleveland. With the success of the Cavaliers and LeBron James having an MVP season, it’s time for more Cleveland (and midwest in general) talent to become exposed to the national and international stages. The Family Guy Project is one such that can cross over and attract many different listerners because of it’s diverse track selction. “I go from hard down south to rock and roll to east coast to spaced out beats on this one”, states Jones.
The mixtape features two exclusive unrealeased tracks to give the consumer a bonus for being loyal to the Phoenix Jones brand.
