J6Ahn

Always looking to break out of the box here at KevinNottingham.com, we had the opportunity recently to talk with music video director J6Ahn. Though still on the come up, J6Ahn has an amazing potential as proven in the work he’s done with Wax & EOM. Hit the jump to see how the interview went down and make sure you bookmark this page. This dude is seriously gonna be famous one day!

Where You Reppin:

J6Ahn: I’m here to rep Rose City Welland and the kimchi loving country, S.Korea.

Introduce Yourself:

J6Ahn: What’s up man, my name is J.Ahn, I’m a young music video director / editor/ photographer. I run LEFTLANE6 Productions with my business associate, Thomas in Orlando. I worked with independent artists such as Wax & EOM on their music videos. And I try to give more of a cinematic kick to music videos instead of the mainstream content thats scourging around right now.

Current projects we should be looking out for:

J6Ahn: For the Past month, Wax, EOM, and our LL6 Crew have been bustin our balls to make this new music video come to life; The song is called “Music & Liquor” off the Liquid Courage album and we’re real excited to lauch the video in early June. So definitely be on the look out for that.

*editor’s note: video has since been released, check it out below!

Previous work that we should know about:

J6Ahn: I think to get our sense of style, you should definitely check out “The Adventure of Larry and Tina” by Wax & EOM. We were fortunate enough to win a film festival with the project and got invited to the Florida Film Festival. check it out, the YouTube comments on that video are pretty interesting so go check it out if you havent seen it!

Main inspirations:

J6Ahn: My inspirations usually originate from the artist’s music. Truth be told, the beat lays down the mood and the tone of the project, and the lyrics are used sort of like a script for me. So I try to create a short movie/music video for the audience. I’m very inspired by music video & film directors; to name few that are on the top of the list, there are: Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Michel Gondry, Chris Cunningham, and Spike Jonze. Those guys are ridiculous… seriously insane.

If you had to pick one song that defines your career to date, what song would that be?

J6Ahn: The toughest project we tackled so far was the “Larry & Tina” video, lots of challenges but the end result was very awarding for everone due to the comments people made online. So if I had to pick one, then, that one would be it.

Why should the readers and fans follow your work from here on out?

J6Ahn: All I ask for new potential fans and readers are just to take a glance at our works, give it a shot, if you don’t like it, it’s nothing personal. If you do like it though, than we’d like to hear your voice. We’re essentially creating these projects for the audience so your opinion matters the most out of anyone. Just like any new artist, we’re hungry, dedicated, and driven, but what seperates us from the rest is that we’ll do it with a style and give the audience a sense of connection with the artist.

What’s next for you?

J6Ahn: A brand spanking new LL6 website is in the works, new photography coming soon!  And we’re in production for few commercial projects. I’m also scouting for new potential artists to collaborate with.

If you could only take one record on a deserted island with you, what album would that be?

J6Ahn: That’s a difficult question man, but I think I have to go with Rage Against the Machine’s The Battle of Los Angeles. They should seriously make an epic return real soon.

Any shout outs or last words?

J6Ahn: Shout out to the LL6 crew Casey Chan, AK, Esteban, J.Tauzin, MD, and Thomas. Mike Jones & Daniel Carey, (yo Dan! I snuff’d that shit son, and it smelled like victory son!) Crystal, Rachel, and Jason back in Canada, the Lution crew, the Visbyte crew, and last shout out to all the friends who read this far, and my parents, they be some serious Korean Gangstas.

Mag, trust me, I’ve been working on trying to get a Graf artist and a bboy/girl

Wiht that said, great stuff 6. You are dope as hell and I love the vision and mystery and effort you put into your vision. I wish other directors were like that.
I DO have one qualm about Music and Liquor though… I don’t think SPOILER you should’ve done the name tag thing at the end!

Regardless, great stuff… and I’m loving the Jays cap in the pic
