In-Depth with Foreign Exchange Pt. 2

Ah, part 2 of the great series. One of my favourite moments of the whole shindig, where Phonte and Nic talk about the very interesting, romantic, and symbol-filled album covers of Connected and Leave It All Behind. A great part of the conversation comes with Phonte talking about one’s interpretation of one of his joints, hilarious ish. The guys also talk about what they “left behind” (baggy jeans according to Nic!) and go in depth with each topic. I also ask Nic about his album name connections from (T)Here to Time:Line, etc, and why they have have this distancing connotation to them. Essentially, we get inside the head of the artist away from the actual music and more behind the context about the product they are putting out.

Be on the look out for clip 3 coming up soon! And check out part 1, if you missed it. Peeeace

Man, I so wish I were there for this! I love the question about the album covers… looking forward to part three!

Yep. That question has been on my mind FOREVER.
I was so freaking happy I finally got to answer that and was at ease when my interpretations were “correct” in their own way.

lol @ tay’s story though

So the person playing bass in the background couldn’t fall back for like 30 minutes?

Deez, i liked this..that was dope about the album covers…the joint from “connected” was a bomb cover, even the hardest cats were like “son the cover is ill ” and also the young lady i dated back then loved the cover ..it gave me sum bun-bun bonus points, lol and she was like i din’t know u listen to artist like this and my reply , not everyone is a gangsta wanna be, lol .

Oliver- the name of the song is “Nic’s Groove” mayne u suppose to know that , lol..i’m jus’ jokin’ :-)

Funny story though J,
I had no idea that it was the Speak Like A Child album cover until a friend via message board brought it up. I was thoroughly impressed with how it was recreated and reinterpreted so beautifully even incorporating everything from the fence to the sunset to the interaction
great cover.

That Leave It All Behind album cover had been brewing in my mind ever since I first saw it.

And yesh… Nic’s groove. Expect a Top 10 Nicolay beat post coming by the end of the year

Thanx Deez..this take me back as a child how the album covers would peek my intrest like the album covers of Funkadelic -Parliament, Ohio Players, Miles Davis and I can go on & on…Nic’s Groove is alwayz the ish …like the title says the man is alwayz in the groove..it may be corny but it’s the truth.

I’m a huge fan of album covers, thats why I think Badu’s Honey may be one of my favourite music videos in a long time.. I mean, it led me to find out that Redman recreated another older album cover

besides, I like the fact that artists actually care about the non-music aspects because I BUY albums for the artwork..heavily… its a big reason

Every interview you do now should be a video interview… Just make sure there aren’t any mirrors behind the people you’re shooting!
