It’s finally here! Probably the most anticipated mixtape of the year… Back To The Feature from Wale & 9th Wonder. I haven’t checked it yet, but feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments. Is it worth the hype? Better than Mixtape About Nothing? Does 9th Wonder come correct?

Tracklist and link after the cut…

damn, finally its here. im happy :)

  • Charity

Why do we keep giving Memphis Bleek second chances???

  • http://slipnsliderecords.net/mrtate T.A.T.E.

It’s kinda hot. I’m kinda disappointed because I’ve some of these 9th beats before… oh well…

@Charity- That’s a VERY good question. Maybe Jay keeps asking people for favors like “Ok, I’ll give you a verse, but you gotta do a track with Bleek too”

  • Lil Ish

    DC Stand Up!

  • Trapperjohnmd

Very dope. I’m glad he used some of the old 9th beats, because I always wondered how they would come out if someone rhymed on them. Wale is dope, don’t like the joint with Lady GaGa though. 9th will go down in the top 5, in my opinion

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Sean Deez

    lol

“why do we keep giving memphis bleek chances” hahaha

  • GUEVARA

9TH IS A DOPE DUDE! DEFINATELY ONE OF MY TOP THREE! BUT I WAS REEEEEALLY HOPIN’ FOR SOME NEW BEATS. CHECK OUT THE SHIT HE’S DOIN’ FOR DAVID BANNER ON YOUTUBE! IT’S STILL A SOLID TAPE……….

mixtape wasnt nice. or maybe its becuz i never got into wale.

  • Thomas

Bleek got hits thought. He’s co-signed by Jay so he’ll con’t to get work.

Since these tracks from 9th are “old” then a sample set is in order…..!

So far what I’ve heard it’s pretty good. I would be a top mixtape thus far this year behind drake, kiss, skyzoo, busta, Rae, and some others.

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Sean Deez

As long as Jay’s alive Bleek’s a millionaire

  • Thomas

    That’s what he said.

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Sean Deez

still.. Memphis Bleek Is is a massive track

most aniticipated mixtpae of the year over Bobby Ray vs B.o.B and of course BAR EXAM 3??????????????

  • 1

wale w\as on point but i was dissapointed with 9ths beats ,repetive and boring, there were some nice ones towards the end ,but i definantly prefer khrysis to 9th ,hes more open to different methods and can do them well

  • james

features on every track? who does he think he is, dr dre?

  • Victor

Dope mixtape, with all those features if someone hates they are just being picky! Its free!!! Its crazy cos these days mixtapes are album quality (almost). Bring on Bar exam 3!

  • Charity

The chorus sample for ‘Um Ricka’ reminds me a lot of the sample Kanye used (‘Maybe It’s the Power of Love’) for ‘Never Let Me Down’. They’re obviously not the same song, but the melody rings familiar.

Young Chris works on this album, and I don’t even like Young Chris. Bleek? Mehhhhh.

    1.21 JIGGA WATTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/campbell_craven Brendan

It’s “Kenn Starr” not “Ken Starr”. they spelled his name wrong on the track listing

  • Trapperjohnmd

Memph Bleek first album was a pretty good album. Memph Bleek is a certified Banger. Goodbye is ill, Jean and 9th need to finish The Phoenix album

  • Charity

His first album came out a decade ago, his second album is overrated and dude hasn’t been a banger since people stopped using pagers.

Four albums in ten years? I can divide…

  • http://www.myspace.com/campbell_craven Brendan

the best beats on this tape are the one 9th doesnt produce. i like some of his work but my god does he flood the market with overrated shit

  • http://www.walemusic.com/dmvhiphophead DMV HIP-HOP HEAD

The tape was tough no doubt and a good look for the area. Next up from the DMV: TPK: 2 Legs And 10 Toes from Muggsy Malone coming soon. Check his interview on Kevin Nottingham.. Good tape Wale!! DMV Stand Up!!

    twoforfifteen.com comin soon!!!

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Sean Deez

    this mixtape is great

    haven’t stopped buying it

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

Agree…mixtape is great. I’m putting it away for a couple of weeks and see if I still like it by mid July. Its up there with Drakes, Busta’s, Rae’s, Skyzoo, and some others for best MT so far this year. That J. Cole is pretty good as well…I slept on Big Sean as well.

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Sean Deez

I’m the only big sean around these blocks…

  • Patch

Say It Again is not only an incredible verse from Royce (what else is new)

but one 9th’s best beats in a looong time

  • http://dawhat.blogspot.com Ben

I just wrote a review of it in case anyone is intersted, i would love to get your guys thoughts!

Big Sean is dope, very similar to Kanye in rap patterns, etc. I think HE TRIES to be different a little too much though

  • http://www.afmreloaded.com ocean

It’s a pretty dope tape overall. On the flip side, his flow is not topping Drake and that song with Gaga is garbage even on the remix tip! Besides that, it’s a good listen with some real bangers on it. The J.Cole appearance makes me wanna go see what his mixtape sounds like as well. Some real good features on it fo sho!

  • ross burrell

A true collabo with 9th Wonder would mean that no other producers would be on it. The only good non-9th Wonder track is Night Life with Young Chris. The best tracks are The Sun and Goodbye.

  • Drizz

I’m not a fan of this mixtape. I think his previous mix-cd’s or whatever u wanna call em were far better than this joint. And as to what ocean has to say about Wale not being on Drake’s level-LOL! Riiiiight. I think Wale’s flow is way more original than Wayne Jr. Yes the song w/ Gaga is trash no doubt, but don’t get it twisted. As for 9th, he kinda let me down on this too. It seems there are certain ppl that 9th Wonder really goes hard for and others (such as Jean Grae or Buckshot) he kinda just floats. It’ll be interesting to see what Wale has in store for his debut official album.

  • Mike DMV

Kevin, this mixtape is time. Wale does it again but it’s about time for the real album. Let’s see if he can sell albums, not just give away for free. If he does one more mixtape, it proves his buzz is not forreal and just made by his management, mark ronson, interscope and bloggers he pays/does joint promotion with. I pray his buzz is really organic bc no one i know from DC fucks with him.

Time to review that new mixtape by Ti’Jean!!! (www.iAmHipRock.com) Another DMV artist about to blow up, this dude is going to be truly global and put DC on the hiphop map forreal.

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

I don’t live in DC….don’t even live in the “true DMV area” of P.G., D.C., Mo County, and Northern VA; but I live in Maryland…about 45 mins from the city. I’m not sure why (and really don’t understand) all the doubt and skepticism about Wale.

I’ve never seen him live, but it seems like every other record he makes he biggin’ up P.G. County, D.C.,…the whole “DMV” area. He has Go-Go inspired tracks (what’s not D.C. or DMV about that). He has UCB backing him on his tour. When I turn on the radio and listen for a bit….I don’t hear any of his songs, but he has a song shouting out “P.G. chillin, D.C. chillin.” C’mon man….what’s not to love about that if you from the area? Somebody making it. WKYS and WPGC sure don’t show him no love….or at least I haven’t heard it.

I’m not saying he is the best artist from the “DMV” area, but he’s not the wackest by far.
I know there are other artist in the area…Muggsy, Oddisee, XO, Kenn Starr (who’s on this mixtape BTW), Kev Brown and others…but just don’t understand the backlash he gets.

I’m excited about project. He has used the internet to market himself, he’s dropped dope material (regardless if its free), and has done things the right way (diggin his feet on the touring circuit). He probably needs to mature a little, but what 23-24 year old doesn’t.

I’m confused. Someone please enlighten me. August 25 is the release date of his album. I have my $9.99 ready.

  • Mike DMV

He reps DC hard fo sho!!

  • http://kevinnottingham.com Thomas

But why no love for him in D.C. then? That’s the question I really want to know?

  • Mike DMV

personally i do like his music. yoiu know what i think it is, from what i hear when he is in DC he is not so personable and appreciative of the supporters here. So ppl hear he is like that and get turned off. I never met him, so I only judge him from his music. And the Lady Gaga thing was seem as a cheap ploy to gain popularity, so that again turned off people. Not just from the DMV but also his fans from the beginning…..just didn’t make sense. We all know Lady Gaga is great friends with Mark Ronson, so it was obvious (not subtle) marketing. Which tends to back fire usually anyways.

I say give him a chance, bc if he flops then it will make it a little harder for the next DMV artist to get a major hiphop record deal. But at the same time, let’s continue to build show love, review, promote other new DMV hiphop artists. That is the very reason by I mentioned that new guy Ti’Jean and asked Kevin to review his new mixtape. Because no regional area should rest their hopes with 1 artist. No matter how great they are. Adn it seems the radio, DMV bloggers are betting the house that Wale will blow up and put us on the map. No, that is not smart or necessary. There is more than enough talent in this area to make us big on an international stage.

We have to promote it though, write mixtape reviews, comment on their music videos, etc to show the world that Wale is not the ONLY decent rapper from the DMV.
