So check it. For my birthday a while back I received a huge gift card from my friends and family. Let’s say in total, I have about $350 worth of a gift card to spend at one store (Future Shop, what up Scott!). Anyways, I’ve been thinking HARD about this decision for the last two months now and really, I’ve made no progress. All of the opinions I’ve asked, everything comes back to square one and literally is split evenly down the middle. So, I’m reaching out to the Nottingham family to help me out. Hit the jump to help me out…
A few key facts to know before placing your “vote” and opinion on the situation:
- I value battery life quite a bit in terms the consistency. My biggest issue with my laptop is how after a year, the battery life lasted only about 45 minutes without the power cord.
- I do a lot of traveling by foot, bus, but I do use my car quite a bit as well. I’m frequently in areas like coffee shops, schools, gyms, community centers, etc, for variety of reasons.
- I go to the gym just about every day and work out everyday. My main purpose for this product will be gym usage.
- I’m a clutz, but I do plan to invest in a great case for either product I get.
- I’ve never owned anything Apple before, so both of these products are very, very new to me and pretty much foreign to me.
- My iTunes is amazingly organized
- I usually have my laptop around with me on longer trips, but once again, it’s battery life is terrible
- The main purpose will be for playing music, undoubtedly. In the next 2 years, I’m pretty sure I could fill up 120 gigs if I wanted to, at the same time, I don’t know how much of the 120 gigs I would listen to on a daily basis.
- There really aren’t any alternatives. I like the Zune 120 gig, but because they aren’t compatible with iTunes, that hurts. I can’t get an iPhone because my plan doesn’t cover that.
- $300 pretty much is my spending limit too. Thus, another option is just to opt for the 8 gig iPod Touch?
There are probably more points that I’m missing. I’m just concerned because I know very little about each product, especially with the Touch. I haven’t heard many negative things about either program. I heard you can hack *gasps* the Touch as well? Thus, not having to pay for the applications and such, but what do I know? Maybe there is some truth to that. Another concern of mine is that I’m really not sure how often I’ll use the Touch applications. With the Classic, it’s obviously the “safer” choice, but with the Touch, I feel like they will come out with a new product next week or something. Frankly, I don’t want to wait until the end of the year to get an Mp3 player.
Guys, in short, I’d love your help. I plan to buy something by next week sometime. My PSP is serving as my mp3 player at the moment; it’s a little too big some days and a little unfashionable. Your help would be much appreciated… Thanks in advance.

Its really what you want. If you strictly want music and video’s I would go with the classic iPod. For 120 gigs you can’t beat the $249 price tag. You can upload your whole collection of music on that. Now of course you’ll have to have the space on your laptop to accommodate. More memory is probably needed.
If you are going to get a iTouch I would suggest to get the 32 gig. 8 gigs and 16 gigs will not be enough for all your applications and music. The iTouch does allow internet access on the fly; so of course you can check the site, email, facebook, do banking, etc. Now of course if free Wi-Fi is available.
So I’m starting to tail off. If $300 is your limit than its the classic iPod. 8 and 16 gis of memory isn’t enough to justify getting a iTouch.
Classic iPod FTW!!!!!!!!!!!
I vote for the Classic as well. I currently have an old 30 gig iPod Video and it’s full. While I do not listen to everything on my iPod all the time, at least I have it there in case my mood changes. My music collection is huge, so I’m looking at an upgrade myself.
The Touch is cool, but until they up the available space, I probably wouldn’t waste my money on one. I remember when I bought my 30gig a few years ago. I immediately wished I had gotten the 60gig (largest at the time).
Don’t listen to what she tells you Deez, bigger IS better! lol
Hip hop heads get that storage space.
Where else are you going to store 29423073 mixtapes?
I voted for the Classic iPod, I used to have a 30GB one and it got filled rather fast. After doing a little research I wound up getting a 160GB Classic iPod. My CD collection is pretty big about 600 CDS, some are singles but most are full length and I still have 89GB left.
The touch is pretty cool though and has the wireless Internet connection built in so if your in an area with wifi you could ditch your laptop at times. It all boils down to your prefrence though but as I said earlier I would go with the classic. I love mine and the battery life is pretty good unless you play games on it like i do.
I really want the new iPhone though. I’m so connected to the internet it makes perfect sense for me to have one. I “borrow” my wife’s at times, but that causes some issues to say the least. They upgraded to 32 gigs, which isn’t bad, but the price of paying two data plans for At&T not so much. I need about a $12,000 raise at my job.
Yes sir, I agree with all of the above. I’ve been through ipods like underwear. Like Kev, I started off with a 30 gb……then i out grew it……went to the 60gb…..(figuring that size should be enough). Anyways, I now own a 160gb classic (purchased a few years ago). It fills up quickly. I now have to remove my 800 videos to make more space for music. GET THE CLASSIC !!
Instead of buying videos on itunes, try downloading an application from:
dvdvideosoft.com
It allows you to take youtube videos and convert them for the classic/touch or iphone.
If u like videos like me……it will be eazzzy to fill the classic
On the flip side, I recently bought my wife an 8gig iPod Nano. Space isn’t an issue for her, as she only has about 1 gig filled up. But damn, that thing is NICE. Really small and lite. And the interface is so much cooler than my old school 30gig. Plus I love that all you have to do is shake it to put it on shuffle.
If they had an iPod that was the size of the Nano and held a few Terrabytes of music, I would be in heaven.
Wait! Future Shop?!?! You live in Canada??
Yeah, Deez lives in Canada…. you couldn’t tell with all the Toronto posts? lol
Buy a Classic off the Apple site refurbished section. It’s cheaper and has a full Apple warranty, so if you end up dropping or damaging it, you can get them to replace it. Save your gift cards for something else.
I would go for the Touch…the classic has a hardrive in it so when you are walking (sports) with it , it might skip…..
I think I told you the Classic. You’re a simple guy and don’t need the Touch, perse.
iii however, am extra and gonna buy the Touch.
Oh and Thomas, I know someone who just bought the new iPhone. Haven’t heard feedback yet, though.
Zune >>>>>
i got a 120 gig ipod and it froze and crashed…dey ant bout shit…and ipod touches is a hassle..u always touch sumthin else wen u mean to touch one thing..and ur hand gets mad sweaty when u try and look for sometin or handle it for a long time..
@Sean
“My iTunes is amazingly organized”
The iPod Touch is actually pretty clutch if your library is well organized. I’m like that too – I only own whole albums/tapes/compilations, everything has cover artwork, everything is titled neatly and uniformly. An iPod Touch might be worth it if you keep a tidy library and don’t have a bunch of loose, ambiguously titled singles with no cover art, and if you don’t mind not having as much space.
I have a Touch, and I don’t mind the space issue because while I have more than 16GB of music in my library, I don’t need more than 16GB on my iPod at any given time because I’m never going to listen to that much music in any given outing. I just cycle music on and off of my iPod every now and again. It’s no problem.
My wife has the iPhone 3g and I like it. Her’s is only a 8 gig, but that’s ok for her….and I like the new updates they put on the iPhone. Adding another data plan on our bill…..not so much something I want to do.
It’s funny because while the Classic is the overwhelming favourite here, I found Charity’s response to be the most “clicking” with me.
I have also heard about that “hard drive” issue guys. If I’m jogging on the treadmill or something, the classic has movable parts, making it more likely for something to happen, where the touch doesn’t have a hard drive and I don’t have to worry about that
Also, yeah Ian, I’m from Canada, Toronto. Your blog is dope homie.
Guys, also, let’s say I DID get a 16 gig… how would I rotate the music I listen to?
When you first sync your iPod to your iTunes library, adjust the setting to “manage music and videos manually.” From then on instead of syncing your whole library automatically, it will only sync tracks from your library that are checked.
Rather, you just mark (under the iPod sync settings) “sync only checked songs and videos.”
no no, that’s not what I was asking, but thanks for that info. I was asking, how could I develop a sort of transition. How do I determine what makes the “Cut” and what doesn’t make the cut hahah
it’s like draft day…
You jog. That actually changes things a bit. Hard drive issues aside (I’ve owned a Classic and a Touch, and I’ve never noticed any difference there), I jog outdoors and the iPod Touch can actually be a pain-in-the-ass to navigate while jogging. The screen will sometimes switch back-and-forth from list to album view since it works with a motion sensor; touch screen dragging is somewhat more annoying than using “the circle” to navigate the menu; the iPod Touch interface doesn’t react as well to water, be it sweat or slight rain (in fact, sometimes if you manage to get water on the interface you can’t do shit with the touchscreen until you dry it off completely, kind of like the Apple mousepad).
Again, more points against the iPod Touch.
For the record, I currently own a 16GB iPod Touch, and I’d spring from the Classic in a hot minute. But I’m broke and it’s a recession.
goddamn…
lol.. you guys are killing me
go with the ipod touch!!! When I got my iphone i was worried about space for music too but one application can solve that. SIMPLIFY MEDIA. Because of this app i’m able to listen to all 1000 gigs of music that i own without adding a single song to the phone.
you can also creat a friends list with Siimplify Media that will enable them to listen to your music and you can listen to theirs. You can’t copy just listen. And you can only listen to music that you share.
Now the only thing you need to figure out is if Simplify Media only works with WiFi.
There is also case that protects and charges at the same time. it’s not heavy or thick. It’ just like a normal case for an IPod except it really charges the battery.
my 2 cents worth..sorry if i repeated. i didn’t read the other responses.
wow
that’s a crazy post
Jlew, would LOVE if you could explain this Simplify Media thing a little bit more. And also, any details about this case…
http://www.simplifymedia.com/ <==== go here
swear, this app is crazy. I don’t use any space on my iphone for music because of this.
here is a link for a case….this one isn’t the one i have. I actually don’t like the look of this one but you get the idea of what they do. Just google charging cases for ipod touch.
ttp://gizmodo.com/380366/radjacket-charge-case-keeps-ipod-touch-juiced-protected
Simplify Media only works with WiFi (it’s a media streaming service).
It makes enough sense if you’re getting an iPhone, since you have to purchase the internet package, but if you’re buying an iPod Touch Simplify Media isn’t really going to work out for you.
not to be a commercial for Simplify Media (they should be paying me though), you can use this app even if you don’t have a iphone or itouch. Just download simplify media to your computer and have your friends do the same. The music will stream through itunes, etc… it does work with wifi too.
Free – No hidden charges. No spyware.
Easy – Set-up is fast. No need to upload files to a website.
Integrated – Play music in iTunes, Front Row, Winamp, WMP 11 or Rhythmbox.
Safe – Only your group can access what you are sharing, and no one can see your other files.
Legal – Files are streamed only within your private group.
Universal – Connect across PC, Mac and Linux desktops and the iPhone and iPod touch. It even works with UPnP devices.
simplify media also works with 3g.
as long as i have phone service i’m good to go.
Hmmmm, I’m intrigued with this Simplify Media. Since it’s a streaming service, I wonder how good the sound quality is. I’m somewhat of an audiophile, so sound quality is important to me. I’mma check it out though.
But Deez, I have the 30gig ipod, which is hard drive based and I jog and have never had problems with it. It’s 3 1/2 years old.
the first version of simplify media had better sound qaulity, in my opinion. They just released 2.0 that added more features but it seems the sound qaulity declined a bit. The next patch coming out is supposed to be working on sound qaulity. We shall see.
if youre anythin like me (which i think you are cuz you run a music site) -youre gonna need all the memory you can get
16 gigs aint shit lol i have an 80 gig and its FULL already-at least with a 120 gig you dont have to go through and delete music to add more-you can jus keep addin new music that comes out
imo
Honestly, go for a zune. I got a zune 80 and you get that Zune pass and get as much music as you want. Plus its much easier to use than iTunes.
i would get and Ipod with a least 120 gigs it lasts forever, and even if you you don’t need that much space, its always good to have . I have 1,109 albums in my itunes and it still all fits on just under 70 gigs.
lol
Johnny, I said in the opening paragraph, I’m not interested in a Zune. I’ve become an expert when it comes to dealing with iTunes and keeping everything there
Guys, is it bad that part of me also wants the “cool” factor of having a touch? Can it help me with my business needs and what not too? Can it act as a voice recorder? Can I take notes on it while I’m at a show and stuff like that?
What are the odds new ones will come out soon?
what about that idea of “hacking?”
I’m not surprised the classic is winning here, in fact, I expected it. Music lovers seem to agree that the classic is the best
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch?mco=MTE2NTk
All the information about the touch. The iTouch and iPhone are cool. Like I said it has tons and tons of apps that could be useful. iTouch has a notepad, can connect to facebook, etc. But, with the iTouch you’ll need Wi-Fi to connect to internet. Is Wi-Fi easy to connect to in Toronto? Meaning will you be able to travel around the city and hop from connection to connection? If a lot of the cool features of the iTouch won’t be there.
So the SimplyMedia doesn’t work with 3G access only Wi-Fi? If so that sucks….I wouldn’t use it.
Gotta go w/ the classic Deez
The Touch has a Notes application, but it’s kind of lame and does really allow much organization. The keypad is good, but not enough so that I’d ever want to take notes with that thing. You can buy an auxiliary recording device for either the iPod Touch or the Classic, I think. I used to have one for one of the older iPods.
i think I’m caving to get an iTouch
(
for no damn good reason
I find wi-fi difficult to connect in toronto……anything wi-fi is a pain in the ass. As much as the “Simplify Media” intrigues me……it’s the wifi that is a problem at least around my North York stomping grounds.
wi-fi really won’t be the deal breaker though
if i get it, great, if i don’t, no biggie. I hardly used it on my psp
Don’t do it! I’m telling you, the iPod Touch barely wins on style, and it sure as hell loses to the Classic on points for utility.
charity… how is watching tv on the touch? The screen seems so dope
Screen is very clear, bright.
Deez I have the itouch for like 2yrs now n I also have the iPhone n think the iPhone is the way to be! Just the video alone is sick bigger screen and love how u can add apps to it to! Jus the wifi alone is sick! Trust me worth the grab! I think the 32gb is out I have the 8gb and will never go back to the classic.
I’m about to put a diss record out on this iPod Touch…
trust me, you guys aren’t making it easy.
But also, Charity, watching stuff on the Classic ain’t as good, correct?
I’ve never watched video on a Classic. I really like the iPod Touch widescreen. I just don’t watch video much in general is all.
But if you wanna watch Charles Hamilton videos on your iPod all day, I mean…
get the touch. apps & internet almost everywhere? unbeatable. however i do recommend the 32 gig.
and do you really listen to all 120 gigs of ur music at a time? I have 35+ gigs of music for of every genre for parties i do and such, and i only carry 15 gigs of it on my ipod.
Take the Classic 120go!!
(ps:he is recognized by ps3)
Internet is not every where for the I touch because u have to pay for it if you want that feature. To add if there is a Wi Fi connection, many are blocked or password protected.
The 120 gig is far more amazing and translated into basically a life time of music. As well as turns out much more useful, for the every day user.
I have the I phone and the 80 Gig classic
There for I know you would be much happier with the classic, for the reasons you listed above. I ride the bus with it to work school, work out with it, DJ parties with it, the 120 Gig is way more practical than the touch. As we as Battery Life, which is garbage on the touch.
In short if you love music get the 120 gig, If you like a limited volume of music but fun things to kill time on the but get the Touch.
DJstanle
If your main thing is listening to the music definitely get the 120 gigs
thought I would never fill the 30 gigs but here I am.
It’s easy for me, 120 gigs or 16 gigs. I ONLY fuck with music on my ipod and I have my 30 gig full. I’ve been trying to save up for a 120 gig but “times is hard”. I don’t even understand the hype for a itouch. You pay the same price for (about) an eighth of the space and the only “amazing” part is that you don’t have to scroll a wheel. Big whoop… Classic > Touch by a landslide for me. I also need the CPU space, as of right now I have plenty of music on my desktop that is dying to be listened to. I never seem to have enough time to sit, focus, and pay attention to some music on my crappy computer speakers. However, I always have my ipod in my pocket and my headphones in. I’d say go for the classic.
i didnt read any of the posts here. but ill just say a quick thing. i voted 120GB classic and im not surprised its the leading vote here seeing as this is a music site and i think most people here would value the “pure music” aspect of the classic over the touch. all that extra storage is very nice even if you don think youll listen to everything you have in it its nicer than having to delete stuff when you wanna add more. battery life will be better on the classic too.
Dominic S said it perfectly man…the absolute best combo is to have an iPhone and a Classic…as a music lover I can tell you that 10 times out of 10 I will be much more frustrated with not having some obscure song on my iPod to listen to the moment I am inspired rather than not being able to get on the Internet.
I just have to say that I had the same issue as you , and I end up choosing the 120 gig ipod classic, and it just fine with me , I love it !
I’ve had a touch for 2 years and it still amazes me what I can do with it. Forget storage 16 gigs is enough at one time like the one dude said.Paying for the apps is no biggie theyre worth it for the most part if you do your research and find out wich ones are worth it.The cool factor is huge cause it really is cool with all the app its the gift that keeps on giving.Hook up the touch deez you wont regret it.
Classic 120 MG. That’s the best way out of spending $$$ evry 4 weeks 4 new iPod. Life is all about space anywhere. I am talking BIG spaces – BIG cribs, BIG cars, BIG di#ks, BIG pimpin, I ma sure you get what I’m trying to say. For a man in your line of work, you realy need BIG space. Go with the Classic I have a 80 MG that fiiled up in a month. SO WHAT YOU NEED IS CLASSIC NO DOUBT. Thank me later
I voted Classic. Aside from all the other reasons mentioned here, which I agree with on nearly everything but needn’t repeat, I also think theres another big reason. And thats when you are out and on a train or something you never know what mood you are going to be in and what album, or even what obscure song you want to listen to. If you actually want to enjoy your iPod you should do this, cause hell if you want to what your doing and pick some music before you leave you may as well just bring your discman and and some cds.
If it’s about the games for you to keep you entertained, just bring your PSP/NDS
great fkn points Killer Bee….
great point about the never-knowing mood
what about the 16-GB Cowon S9-Player? Could compete w/the iTouch IMO.
http://www.cowonamerica.com/products/cowon/s9/index.html
Worrrrd Deez!!
I just seen this post, so apologies for the delay… I work for Apple, so let me give you some nice advice. For what you wanna use it for, the Classic is your boy. The Touch is amazing, but you wont need it. Get the classic. Then get an iPhone. This is how I roll. The iPhone for my contact and email and a load of juicy applications, then the Classic for all my hot music.
Then get a MacBook.
Sorted.
Classic, more space, more music/videos.
I bought a Classic one myself not so long ago and for a record collector such as myself it’s a wet dream come true. I’ve put my whole record collection on there and with stuff I’ve downloaded I got about 2000 albums (about 20000 songs) spread over roughly 75 gig. The iTunes search engine has amazed me too cos it recognizes even the most obscure records and image-copied CDs. The cover search engine is, however, fifty-fifty, sometimes I’m amazed to what obscure records it finds the artwork but also often frsutrated cos it doesn’t get the most obvious ones or simply mismatches them.
I recently bought a docking station too, so now I can take my whole record collection with me anywhere I go (like holidays etc). The player works just fine, I can’t complain about anything, it was just a bit tricky at the beginning to keep iTunes from recording the library in Windows (or the main drive for those who take the pain to divide into partitions); you’ll probably need to hook it to a removable hard drive that’s got the required free space. But yeah, I went as far as compiling loads of different playlists (like “Boot Camp Clik”, “Early to Mid-Nineties”, “Fusion Jazz”, etc.) and I find the whole shuffle playmode quite addictive. I really suggest that you buy a docking station too (you can get good ones for somewhere between 70 and 100$) cos it allows you to play your library in your living room or wherever you want
a got the 8gb touch a couple days after havin da 80gb classic for a while now….and that was only to watch movies & da wifi. da classic is still my main joint cuz it holds so much room. if u gotta choose one go w/ da classic, i got damn near my whole music collection on it
Whatever the posse rolls wit’..will be the one that I will get…This post will help me out as well Deez…Thanx for sharing this.
Damn, I’m thinking about getting a classic myself!
you’d think with these many comments my life would’ve been made easier. In fact, this whole decision has been made harder.
Yes, YES, I understand the classic is sweeping away the competition here, but indeed, this is a music website and I totally expected that. There have been both great points made on both parties for both products, I really have no idea how to react to all of this
first off, thank you guys so much for giving a shit about my decision….
If this really is for a music purpose though, don’t you guys partially think that 16 gigs might be a better way to appreciate music? Consider the fact that i have 50 gigs of music on my itunes, readily disposed to listen to whenever I want to…. if i have 16 gigs (and I’m normally an album guy, i rarely listen to single songs), don’t you think this is a better way to really limit what I can and should listen to? Especially with all of the albums i have to review and all of the artists I have to spotlight, it could be a good thing to really narrow down that focus, don’t you guys think?
just throwing another monkey wrench in there
eezze deezy. absolute no brainer. Ipod classic everytime. 16 gig is nowhere near enoiugh for true heads such as ourselves.
spread the word volume 3
http://rapidshare.com/files/238838701/spread_the_word_volume_3.rar
honestly if it was me i wouldn’t get a touch unless i was gonna get a 32gb model and i wouldn’t even bother with the 120gb classic
you’re gonna hate either decision, itunes sucks donkey balls and apple as a company in general is just horrible. i’ve always hated the ipod. my 80gb zune is the love of my life then my iphone. i’ve had an iphone, ipod and a zune and the zune is by far the best for music. but i know, you like buying inferior products *cough*PS3*cough* (lol JK)
but for you and since you must have an apple id go for the 120gb classic, there really are no pros for the touch in your case if you’re not gonna use all the shit on it.
Hey, Emmanuel, how do you qualify the statement “Apple as a company in general is just horrible…”?
Just wondering. That’s quite a statement.
because, do you really think they give a shit about their customers? they dont even have a customer service department you can reach and when you email them they dont email you back for days
if your itunes account gets hacked they wont do shit about it. thats crap. they’re supposed to be in charge of protecting your personal information and when they cant they just tell you you’re shit outta luck.
not only that but all their products are over priced.im not gonna lie, they have some dope products, nothing i would willingly pay for, the only reason i have an iphone anyways is because i dont pay for it. but you can get something for the same price or cheaper that does the same things an ipod does and do it better and do more. people buy ipods just because they say ipod. nevermind that itunes is the most retarded shit ever invented. could they have made a more difficult way of keeping everything organized? its hard to even add and remove shit from your device
i just hate apple. they make shit difficult for customers then when someone goes wrong you’re shit out of luck. like i said, ill stick to my zune, it does everything the ipod does just better and easier. cant wait for the zune HD to drop.
I’ll wait for all the Apple employees to come outta the woodwork lol
I’ve gotten some tremendous help from the few that do work there though.. knowledgeable heads
Word, Emmanuel…
Based on what evidence do Apple not give a shit about their customers? Apple is in existence purely for the customers. That’s why the retail stores exist… To give face to face support and learning. The purest form of ‘customer service department’ is the store, unless you want to sit for hours like a dick on the phone not knowing which foreign country you’ll be speaking to next.
Also, if your iTunes account gets hacked… Get a better computer. If you’ve had a bad experience, then don’t generalise… If you don’t like the products, thats cool… Just say you don’t like the product, rather than hating on Apple as a whole.
I had a Ford car that had nothing but shit happen to it… I’m not gonna say I hate Ford!
Plus, how can you not organise your ‘ish on iTunes???? That is a user error, not product.
It’s nice to have healthy debate, and I love that people have opinions…. just get some perspective and context in it, you know?
flames.. if Apple was all about customer service though, why do they limit their customer to one helping phone call a product? (just throwing a monkey wrench in there)
I realize its a business too, but sometimes, those calls can be the lifeblood of help
Deez, Apple give 90 days telephone support when you purchase something. If you take out the Apple care, you get 3 years of free telephone support. Again, this is why the stores are here.
well there are only like 4 stores in houston and its a pain in the ass for me to go to any of them. i see what you’re saying im jjust not a big fan of ipods or apple in general even though i love my iphone i would never pay for one.
and i’ve never had any security problems with anything. itunes is the first time i’ve had that happen to me and i buy stuff over the internet all the time. then i contact them and they tell me theres nothing they can do after waiting 2 days to get an email back. thats not a good look.
but you’re right, i shouldn’t generalize. apple does have some kick ass products, i just wouldnt spend my money on em
zune is still better than the classic though
man,.how can you even consider the touch when THIS is coming out
http://gizmodo.com/5302077/rumor-zune-hd-comes-in-1632gb-sizes-launches-september-8
man i know what im buying this september
Take it from me man get the classic. The touch seems so cool at first but after a good hour or 2 with it you figure out how boring it is. I had the 80 gig classic and got the 16 gig touch. I regret it so much and have been frantically trying to get rid of it and get some of my money back and going back to my classic. Classic is amazing.
get the itouch 32gb i had mine for about 6 months and i love it, the classic was my for ipod but hands down the itouch is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got the touch
sue me
ok ok I go the touch to test out first. I still have a whole month to mess around with it and what not. But Yeah, I got the touch for now. 16 gig. Its fun, but I haven’t really messed around with it yet
I just now saw this update, Deez, smh. SMMFingH.
Hey Deez I have been struggling with the same decision, however, I already have the classic. I am strongly agreeing with getting the Touch just like you did because in a year I have 5 movies and 200 songs and listen to maybe 90 of the songs if it is a long trip or 1-2 movies. I strongly agree with Charity. Good Luck and have fun with your touch.
Also with the Ipod touch there are many great Apps that are fun-filled and some that help with educational purposes.
Hey Will, what’s up.
So here’s what I ended up doing. I bought the Touch from Future Shop. The 16 gig, it came up to about $330. I got it, I played around with it, I got the apps and stuff, put music on, etc..eh… It’s not bad. Honestly, The apps are fun for the first few times (with a few apps being very cool time killers like Paper Toss, and some other ones are really useful like Urban Spoon). The Touch stuff is pretty cool, and really, it’s saying “I have an ipod Touch” that is kinda cool at the end of the day because really, not many people have it.
I returned it though, as planned, I just wanted to try it out. I’m messing around with the Classic, 120 gig, and frankly, it grows on you. There’s nothing special about it, you know the deal and it really is what it’s marketed as. It’s a solid music library with some extra features that don’t aim to impress, but aim to deliver. It does the job and does the job well.
you know what you are getting with the classic… simple as that. And there’s something remarkably comforting about having ALL of your music on the ipod itself… it would be extra comforting having an Aux or a radio transmitter for the whip though too.
I noticed slight differences though. I noticed the sound is better on the touch. The screen and the artwork display on the touch is marvelous too and really really pretty to look at. Big bonus. Also, searching on the Touch for the music you wanna listen to is about 10 times faster. With that said, the battery life on the Touch is horrible. Using the touch AS the touch, well, you won’t get much battery life out of it… the apps kill the battery, so does the internet (and truly, I could only get unlocked WiFi in 2 locations in 1 month’s time).
I’m still juggling my choices, I’m gonna try out the classic for this month
How’s the Classic working out for you? I am deciding between the two myself and to be honest I am favoring the Touch. However, if the battery life is as you say it is then that is a problem. For me, I look forward to extended listening (usually entire albums at a time) and I need to know that the battery will last. I will, admittedly, also forget to charge my phone cause I’ll leave it in my pocket or backpack, so I know I would do the same with either iPod. I’m wondering if the difference in battery life between the two is that obvious? I look forward to seeing what you decide (if you haven’t already).
Wait!!! Why dont you just buy the 64gb i touch? I think that would solve your need for entertainment and music cravings. You mentioned you only have $350 to spend right? Well add 50 to that and get the best of both worlds! I mean really when are you going to be away from a computer long enough to be bored of at least 30gb of pure music and 30gb of pure videos leaving 4gb for apps! You crave music, but i seriously doubt you will listen to 30gb of it in one day at a gym! Remember its not how much music you can store but the amount you will actually listen to!

wow, they have a 64gig touch now? This article was written back in June and that wasn’t an option. Shit, I may get one of those myself!
Kev you know Apple upgrades everything right before the Christmas season. I’m waiting for the 120 iPhone and I’m good….probably 2 yrs away.
Yeah, but I’m impressed with the idea of a 64GB Touch. I hope the battery life is better, too. Deez, something to remember that’ll *really* up the battery life on your iPod Touch: always make sure that the wireless internet is turned off when you’re not actually using it.
yeah i hear you charity.
new lines of Touch’s came out today.. same with nano’ and things.
I’m thinking about getting the new 32 gig touch.. I can’t afford the 64 gig
I’d actually go for the 32GB Touch over a Classic, just because the storage space is finally enough to justify the Touch for someone with a large library.
to kinda settle the score here
I have gotten and am HAPPY with my 32 gig Ipod Touch 3rd Generation
there needs to be one of these on Blackberry vs. Iphone, man oh man.
why?
this was made done on a dilemma I had and comments regarding it were made towards the dilemma I had. Wanna discuss BB vs. Ipod, do that here..
Well yes, the iPod classic does have a hard drive and there is a chance it could get damaged, but since the classic is around 250 then you could get a shuffle for 50. The shuffle doesn’t have a hard drive and is built for exercise. After all, you have around 300, right? Anyways, I would prefer the iPod classic. It has plenty of space and depending on how large your media library is, it’s perfect for just fitting it all on there
i have one question guys. im facing te same delama as deez. but im bbetween a 8 gig touch the only thing is i only have 100 songs.what should i do?
Joe. Read through the comments. They were greatly helpful to me. Also keep in mind the context though. This is a music blog, and I certainly expected the Classic to get the love that it got. In the end, the Touch was just something aesthetically more pleasing to me. Call me Aristotle in this situation, but I really liked the beauty of the Touch a little more.
I ended up getting the 32 Gig touch. If you only have a total of 100 (in total, on your computer, or 100 songs that you can put on the Touch?), then there’s no point in getting a huge ipod classic, but also no point in spending the big bucks to get the Touch as well.
did i say 100 songs? well f i did i meant 1000. i also am thinking of expanding a few hundred more songs. alot of people have told me to get the touch. i figure that it doesnt really give me much room to expand. i also think tht the classic is way too big. many people say tht its always good to have the room. iagree, but im just thinking tht if i could pick out of one thousand, the ones i might listen to on a regular basis, tht could help. i am also very dersprite for wifi. i have it at my house. i am having to write this on my dsi. i could se if i could afford the 16gig, but i doubt it. i would be getting it on christms, and my birthday is in feburry. i got thirty bucks now. i could tell my parents tht i would giv them my twenty bucks, and the 16gig touch would bemy birthday and christms present. what do u TnIK, KNowing Thot?pLeose respond Fost
As I said, the Touch has an aesthetic value that isn’t given to you by the Classic. since the price drop, I’d say go for the Touch, the 32 if you can afford it. A lot of this depends on your budget of course.
I mean, the way I looked at the classic, I could probably have it 10 years down the road, with my entire collection on it. That’s pretty mind blowing. But I had never owned an Apple product, and I kinda wanted the touch, really really badly, just for an aesthetic enjoyment. I know, I’m shallow… but I feel so fucking cool with it hahaha.
I use it, i use the applications quite a bit too, specially the useful ones.
Even the smallest touch, it may not hold all of your music, but put a few albums on there and it’s just an enjoyable. There are a handful of albums I haven’t even touched as of yet, and probably won’t relisten to.
okay so guys, im not really sure if this forum is obsoleete, as far as if anyone uses it much anymore, but i am still gonna post my questions. so here we go:
i am trying to decide wich to get. an ipod touch 8 gig 3rd generation, or an ipodclassic. i am pretty sure i could fill up at least four gigs, i know that thats like nothing to you guys here on this forum, but i have just started breading my music collection.
my situation is actually remarkobly simialar to joes. except i actually have twenty gigabytes of music on my computer right now, waiting to be listened to. when i said i could only fill up four gigs, that wiuld be stuff i listen to. okay so, lets say the of the eight gigs on theipod touch i do two gigs of music, and two gigs of video. after formatting memery usage and such and the four gigs of music and vids, i would be left with 3 gigs for apps. i think that that might be enough. also, i know 99% of you are gonna say ” this guy is crazy! he has twenty gigs, but hes only gonna put two fof music.
‘ of that of wich i would actually listen to on a regular basis is about 2 gigs. i dont really understand why someone would ever listen to even 20 gigs of music on an ipod classic. could one of you explain to me why you would ever need one hundred sixty gigs? i dont remember who posted this, but i remember that someone on here said ” you never know wht mood youll be in’ i totally understand that, i just dont see why you would ever need that much memory. could one of you also tell me what you think you would do in my situation? thank you in advance
okay, i think deez is better off with the 32 touch. cause it mat store a real big amount of music but it has a good amount of memory.
I FOUND A DEAD PIXEL ON MY TOUCH
IM PANICKING
