I remember Thriller like everyone else but Smooth Criminal did for with the leaning and the robot and everything else. After I saw Smooth Criminal I go outside and pretend I was in it doing all those cool moves.

Thomas man where do I start? I remember being a young back in baton rouge, la wit my cousins waiting ALL DAY for the "jam" video to premier...I even remember waiting all night for the corny eddie murphy collab he did (right afta the simpson's...who remembers THAT song? lol)....or even when remember the time previewed and my jaw dropped? notice a trend? the man has a catalog unlike no others. I remember his compassion and love for music and the plight of those who didnt have a voice...he spoke to a generation...much like a lennon did, a tupac did, a dylan did. He was and IS the GOAT of music man...period...not the king of pop...but MUSIC.

I may be a late 80s baby, but I grew up on his vinyls and cassettes. He was one of those people that could unite a household, without a doubt. I remember the first time I watch Thriller, the video, and my brother dragged me into the room, sat me down and made me watch it. To this day, we sit down and watch it at Halloween. The video Black & White and the video Scream ... neither of which I dared miss if it was on tv. And then my fam; my cousins, my brother, myself.... we'd try to moonwalk to every performance, trying to see who could do it better, hahahah. My parents played old Jackson 5 music around the house ... my dad would try to sing in MJ's pitch in the 90s... it's ridiculous how my life was somewhat shaped by what he created/did.

I mean, I keep asking myself how can I be upset over a man I've never met ... but that's a man who I grew up with and continue to grow up with as his legacy and music protrudes and influences other genres

RIP.

i remember when i was 2 years old my mom tryin' to keep me away from tv every time the "thriller" video came on and me doin' everything i could to not miss a thing...

then i remember a year ago when my son discovered the same video once we went to sam's club... he was just 2 years old and was impressed and didn't even blink staring at the screen, 25 years after my mom's attempts to keep me away from the video. and that was a priceless moment, we stayed for the whole 13 minutes of the video, then replayed it and spend the whole time watching it while his mom was shopping... priceless

it's strange that my memories about him are so fresh, it's like he never gone.
I think the biggest memory of him is me and my friends dancing to his songs, tryin' to imitate him and just enjoying his music. They came today to my house and it was strange, everyone was silent, his death really afected us; It was like losing the big brother that you grow up admiring.

You live in our hearts forever M.J.
We love you. Rest In Peace.

Some of my earliest memories ( and I know I'm dating myself) was seeing The Jackson 5ive cartoon some years after it was made thinking, wow Black faces like mine on a Saturday morning cartoon and it's not Fat Albert. I also remember a re-broadcast of the Jackson 5 performing Dancing Machine on the Merv Griffin show, watching Michael doing 'The Robot' and instantly knowing that I was seeing history created right before my eyes. This was quickly confirmed when I saw the excitement in my dad's eyes after watching these guys.

I only intended to say a couple of things just about Michael but I realized that I was a true fan of everything Michael or J5. And regardless recent events in his personal life, when it comes down to what he meant to me...that I'll always miss. R.I.P.
