Michael Jackson Beat It Tribute Contest

We can’t possibly go one with the Blueprint Remix Contest this week. My head isn’t in it and I know yours isn’t either. Instead, let’s focus our energies on where are heads are… Michael Jackson and his music. There have been a ton of tribute mixes to come out over the last couple of days, but I want to do something different. I’d like us all to pull together to create an instrumental tribute beat tape. So that’s where the idea for this contest came about.

I want you all to create your best Michael Jackson inspired track. Take any MJ song (there are plenty) and flip it into something fresh. Sample any MJ song you want; however, pay attention to what other people are sampling, because we will more than likely only take one beat from those that sample the same song. As for the whole project, we will end up picking anywhere between 15-20 beats, depending on how many are submitted and how good they are. Hit the jump to enter…

Upload your beats below via the Box.net widget. Before you upload, please name your mp3 with your name and the MJ song you sampled. For example, if I did a beat sampling Billie Jean, I would name my file — Kevin – Billie Jean.mp3.

Contest deadline is next Sunday, July 4th @ 3pm Eastern Daylight Time. Good luck!

    Good job everybody! I’m looking forward to hearing the final product! The beat I submitted is special because it’s the first beat I made when I got fl studio 2 years ago. This version is a more clear version than what it sounded like originally and I remade it sometime last year.

    Listen, I grew up on Michael, I may be young, but the first song I ever remember hearing was Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough, when I heard on Thursday that he died, I cried, it was easily one of the saddest days in my life. R.I.P. to the greatest who ever did it. Much love.

    DoNotFire… Yeah, they’re Dilla drums. I love the way they sound. I got the set ages ago. They just seem to compliment everything so well. As for the program I use, it’s GarageBand on the Mac. Also, I use Audacity if I need to adjust tempos etc.

    There is a possibility that I might revamp my statement about entering the contest.It’s just that this project is so emotional for me and the rest of the squad,that I dont wanna do anything that’s going to take away from it.If I do,I will use a totally different sample than the one for the project.I’m going to sit on the thought for right now and see.This music thing is running thru my veins though.Everybody is bringing the heat for MJ,in the contest,on the real.Good luck

    DJReMike… To use files and tracks downloaded from the internet, you simply drag the MP3/WAV file into the track window of Garageband. I open my ‘Finder’ window, go to iTunes Music folder and choose the track I need. Does that make sense/answer your question?
    I can’t remember the site I got the Dilla drums. I think I was just digging deeper and deeper into the web and they came up somewhere.

    DJRemIke… Oh, I see. I just have them all in iTunes, then drag ‘em in when I need them… Or, you could drag a drum or kick, etc, into GB and then ‘Add To Loop Library’.

    ds… I don’t think this is about skill level, it’s about paying respect and homage to an artist who has influenced and affected 90% of the globe. Don’t knock the ‘beginners’… They have as much entitlement as the pros to show their love. It’s a beautiful thing that MJ has brought all these guys together for a purpose.
