Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later will be in stores soon. No current release date is set, but the rumor is fourth quarter. This video is directed by Kanye West, which I am not sure is obvious or not. My favorite part is that Drake said the message is that win or lose, you can still be someone’s best! Everybody’s been talking about this video today… what do you all think? Props to OnSMASH for the upload.

Nice video, Nice song but how big is too big?
Man, for whomever thought the DOA video was completely irrelevant to the song…
Not that that’s uncommon. This video is just too much. It’s like Kanye just discovered titties and thought, “man, I bet nobody ever put these in a video…”
r u serious.. nice song ..but this video sucks…. no thought went into it… … DMV stand up….
It’s fitting, too, because his dialogue in this video is porn quality.
lmao @ Charity… yeah! lol
Man Drake has been getting all kinds of flack for this vid online today. I haven’t heard one person that likes it. Someone (I forget who) made an interesting observation, that maybe he’s trying to cater to his male audience with this video.
Not sure what they were trying to accomplish with this one though.
*awaits Drake fanbase outrage*
I’ve heard his 2 tapes and I still don’t get the hype about this guy. And don’t come at me with the “wayne association” garbage cause I actually liked wayne before he completely lost his mind.
Meh, I’ve always hate Wayve, but I generally like Drake. Still, I was tweeting at Toure about this yesterday. All rappers rhyme about women, cars, money, etc. That’s fine. But successful artists take off because they manage to build image + lyrics ON TOP of all that. Jigga is industry cunning; Nas is hip hop reportage; Wale is repping a city that gets no love, along with its influences; Kanye is [was] about being black and being a rapper without being a gang banger but still being broke.
I have no idea what Drake is doing, aside from essentially remaking every hip hop song that’s been made between 1998 and now. The kid is Memphis Bleek. Granted, Drake is an amazing lyricist (unlike Bleek), but so is Joe Budden. You can’t just be Joe Budden and be the great hip hop hope.
*Wayne
Yeah this video sucked bad. This could have been a great intro video tp a porno or something like that. It was way over the top. You can tell kanye is a tity man. Drake and kanye droped the ball on this one.
However I do like the sexual undertones drake uses in this video like that the d thats all your good at. I thought that was pretty funny.
Flat out man I’m from the Dot and this guy aint nothin against any of the orginal TDot Vets like Saukrates, Kardinal … this is all mass marketing Hype bullshit, Drake is good but again there is way way to much hype b/c of his association with Wayne. I’m forecasting the debut to be an underscore and not even close to a classic.
The video suck….still like the song. If you listen to his earlier mixtapes he is rapping about the same stuff. Only difference is the Wayne co-sign. Too bad for him……I think he’ll make a good freshman album. If you have all three of his mixtape the growth in song writing is evident.
Hip hop is funny…..love the underdog, but once they get too high…gotta bring them back down.
“Hip hop is funny…..love the underdog, but once they get too high…gotta bring them back down.”
True and not. Kanye’s a good example. Everyone likes to shit on him now, but it’s honestly not like he’s still making College Dropout/Late Registration material. Sometimes the underdogs choose to stop being the underdogs.
This is my response to everyone who says the video has nothing to do with the song. I agree with people when they say the video is not groundbreaking but to say the video is a “bad video” is a horrible evaluation of the video. Matter of fact name a rap video within the last few years that was a great video.
“I’m guessing no one on this board has played on any type of team before. When I use to play pee wee football the coach would tell us that we are the best team he has ever coached even if we are clearly not the best team he has ever coached. He would say tell us that we are the best to make us feel good about ourselves and hopefully the team would perform better because we had a little more confidence. i’m also guessing no one of NT is in a relationship. I don’t know about the rest of NT but I have told girlfriends in the past that they’re the best I have ever had. There is two reasons why I would tell them they’re the best one, to make them feel good about themselves (even if they lay on the bed like a starfish) and two, more than often if you tell your girl that her stuff is the best she is more likely to let you hit again because she thinks she is the best you have ever had.’
They point isn’t that rap videos are generally great; it’s that they’re generally somewhat better than porn previews.
Charity I’ll agree somewhat to what you said in comment #12. But, I believe once you “make it” so to speak…that underdog status is gone. Its kinda like we (hip hop fans) build our favorite artist up only to tear them down. But the video is kinda dumb. I’m a guy so the eye candy was welcomed, but having heard the this song since Feb 09…the video isn’t what I expected. Kinda expected him rapping to three different girls telling them they are the best and at the end they all find out about each other.
Now this video doesn’t change my mind about him as an artist. I think he’s talented and makes pretty good music. It just seems like once he started fuking with Wayne he’s been getting more and more negative press (not saying you or anyone commenting in this post have done that). I just don’t understand it. Wayne is seen as the anti-christ. People don’t have to like his music, but I respect his hard work. He’s worked hard for his “spot.” In the next few years it’ll be someone else.
D. Blanks
I’ve have played organized sports (basketball) since the 8th grade. Used all my college eligibility up at my small D-3 school in VA. Know what team work is my man. I think any guy with an ounce of game has spit that ish to girls/women to hit. I just didn’t like the video. Still like the song. Really don’t like Jay’s video, but still like the song.
Chicks were nice to look at tho…..can’t deny that.
I don’t think Kanye needed to go waaaaaayyyyyy out there on his first video but playin’ the sure bet with Tig Bitties and basketball so any mungkey can say “Kanye n Drake is dope son” is dumy-ing it down too much! Both Drake and Kanye are much more creative than this trash, minus the 2-3 funny parts and tig ol bitties of course.
I did not like the video at all.
I really don’t see what the hype is all about…everything about him is so average…honestly ppl are oonly checking him because the down with Wayne…imo
LAKIM well not really I dislike lil wayne like I dis like woman that smoke cigarettes however I do like drake he is pretty nice. But a little over hyped if you ask me.
pretty weak video. love the song but was terribly disappointed by the video. wtf. why would you get kanye to direct?
looks like an 8th grader shot this video , just shamelessly zooming in on titties lol
Just playing devil’s advocate. As an artist don’t you want hype? Don’t you want people to anticipate your work? Don’t you want people talking about you?
First off if you keep saying that drake is just average maybe you should take a look at the tape again cause people who have made groundbreaking material and classic albums are really checking for drake, Now thats not to say that you should follow what everyone else says cause thats not the point at all but if someone has made a career off of classic material one could probably assume they know a thing or two about what they are doing. If kobe or Lebron said they thought another member of the NBA was good at basketball are you going to say they are wrong? Maybe but chances are kobe and lebron know what they are talking about. Thats all im saying. Now as for the video, Kanye and drake have said they talked about making a serious, ground breaking video but then decided that the song was too fun for that which is probably why this one ended up the way it did.
Honestly, I like Drake. I’ve been a fan of his music for a while. I think he’s an extremely talented lyricist. Plus he’s a damn good singer (something that’s really lacking in music in general lately). All that aside,
You people act like this is the 1st Kanye West directed Video that You’ve ever seen!!!!
OF COURSE THE SONG DIDN”T MATCH THE VIDEO!
KANYE DIRECTED IT!!!!!!!!
DID YOU NOT SEE FLASHING LIGHTS?!?!?!?!?!
Get over it. I’m tired of people who were just fans of Drake’s music before he got the Lil Wayne Co-sign, all of a sudden saying, ” I don’t like his music” It’s not like he just woke up one morning and his content became any different than it’s allways been. Plus, If so many people hate Lil Wayne so much, why is it that you’re still buying the music?!?!
The same with Solja Boy. People saying he’s so wack….
Why is “Turn My Swag On” and “Donk” in your ringtone collection.
YOU are the reason that the music is the way it is. The FANS. If you stop supporting bullshit music they’ll stop making it.
I mean it makes no sense to me that everybody hates this BS that comes on BET and the RADIO but it’s the top selling music. But Joe Budden’s “In My Sleep” video (which is one of the Dopest Videos I’ve seen in a long time) cant even get played late night on The Deal.
End Conclusion:
Stop Complaining And Change the Market
*just my little Rant. Back to regularly scheduled programing now*
I like it! Basketball, Boobs, Females stretching, a good song, it has everything i like!
Well, it appers that not alot of people liked the video..It looks like the media machine has worked..every urban blog is talking about the video and everyone and their momma is commenting on it.
Just my two cents to D Blanks who mentioned not seeing good videos in the last few years..Some may disagree but Kayne’’s videos Touch the Sky, Good Life and Stronger were pretty good..
Lets see what Drake does next..
From now on, man, I’m running on the blind hope that Jay’ll drop Blueprint 3 and everything will be all better.
1) DOA video I thought was perfect for jay’s continuation of his “american gangster” image, and way more fitting than this video.
2) Blatently obvious kanye directed this, and IMO for all the “creative” comments Drake made about kanye directing it, I think it turned out to be shitty.
3) HORRIBLE mixing IMO, the fact that the second verse is all chopped and screwed and the pitches are all over the place just makes me think shitty lil wayne production.
4) When drake raps its pathetic how much influence cash money/lil wayne is having on whatever style people thought drake had.
5) Drake is going to be the fastest rise and fastest fall. Don’t get all upset over the hype he’s getting. Just let companies waste their money, and watch the world get bored in another year, with another shitty rapper runnin around yellin YUNG MONEY
Charlity no need to run on blind hope….BP3 will drop in September.
Wow.. this is exactly why we posted this video… cuz I knew people would not like it. Amazing how much discussion goes on for something that is not liked…. lol
That’s a long wait for me! After the first to times I listened to DOA, I vowed to not listen to it again until the album dropped. I’m gettin blue ears, man.
lmao @ Queen Latifah & Mary J. giving props to Drake for ‘uplifting’ women. I’ve had that argument over and over with people … well, here’s your ‘upliftment’. smh.
PS, releasing in December. as per a little bird, before Christmas.
Someone on these internets made a great point that aside from how bad the video is generally, a lot of people still don’t know about Drake and this video was a piss poor introduction — “It’s not a Through the Wire, or In My Lifetime.”
Kev, you mention Drake’s name this day and it’s automatic to get some discussion
kid is a walking topic
My mom knows about Drake. I was at the gym last night hoopin and mid aged men (35+) were singing this song.
I agree though….not a good introduction for him beyond the internets….also him being a part of that Young Money ish on the Awards show didn’t help either.
He hasn’t pulled a Charles Hamilton yet, tho.
This is the breast video out!
i liked this video….. HA. the titties were bouncin, ladies were sexy, and there was a good basketball game goin on…but most importantly there wasnt just one or two sexy girls like most of these low budget videos. They went all out and got like 8-10 foxy ladies and thats why i appreciated it… i probly wouldnt search for this online to watch it again, but if it came on tv i most likely would not change the channel
This reminded me of a line for some reason..
“They told me I should come down cousin, but I flatly refuse, I ain’t dumbin’ down nothing.”
And that’s why we need to stopping begging new cats to come and save hip hop and instead invest in the artists we’ve already got that have been trying to save it for years now.
I think the video coulda been a helluva lot better, but u know these dayz not many artist put any thought into their videos…it’s the same old same old, T&A..T&A and more T&A..and I ain’t saying Time & Attendance, lol…don’t get me wrong it’s cool in some cases especially when it fits the song…LOL @ the Drake uplifting women comment..in this video to me he’s uplifitng women with serious support, lol.
