What, what, what?!?! I thought last week was the last week in the Blueprint Remix Contest? Nope. Thanks to RodLoOs for coming through with an acapella that I was missing, we are gonna do one more week. This week we’re remixing a bonus track off The Blueprint, “Breathe Easy (Lyrical Excercise).” This Just Blaze-produced track displays some of Hov’s skills at his finest. The sample used is Stanley Clarke’s “Got To Find My Own Place.” This is officially the last week of our Blueprint Remix Contest, so make it count!
Also, for Week 13, we are extending the submission deadline to 9pm eastern time, due to the outage we had on the site yesterday. So you still have about 11 more hours to get your remix in for last week. We’ll have the results from Week 12 posted today as well.
If you’re new to the contest, read the rules. I think the rules mention uploading your remix to a final sharing service. If so, disregard and upload via the embedded widget below. Please remember to name your mp3 with your name only when uploading via the widget below. If you made changes and have to reupload, add -FINAL after your name. Remix is due next Sunday (August 2nd) by 3pm Eastern Time. Good luck!

Yeah !!! I’m back.
I made this beat for W13 when I’ve seen that the last remix would be “Girls, girls rmx”. I was like DAMN all that stuff for nothing !
After that I’ve noticed that I took the wrong sample. LOL
DAMN, this track is voodoo. LOL
I spent my time to fix it and fit it with the original sample.
Then I’ve used the electric guitar parts in order to make it bang with a Rock’ vibe.
The piano parts have been a little bit changed and other stuff too.
Enjoy !
Alright I’ve been busy with my EP (thanks again for the post Kev) but I’m ready to hop on this again for the last week.
RodLoOs – Nice beat! The Fabolous sample for the hook is nuts! Ha!
MELLOW DAZE – Crazy! Guitar sample is tight!
tnx Nittso! started off early this week the beat is too ill, even to listen to as asong, kept it simple and melodic as always, hope yall like it!
cant wait what all of ya is cookin for this final week!
Just finished, comments are appreciated.
Razor – those drums are fire, Queen sample?
RodLoOs – sick
@ Brendan – yes i sampled “we will rcok you”….but i also added my own kicks and snare to bring it out more……
Mellow Daze – excuse me while I pick up my jaw from the floor! You couldn’t have picked better drums for this. I wanna see someone top this. So yeah good job on this one.
I threw my 1st edition out there. I haven’t listened to anybody’s yet. I wanna finalize mine before I do. Hope you enjoy my ish. Comments welcome
@ Razor – I thought that was Queen, sounds good
Mya: Nice name btw, i knew that was Queen too, Razor always comes with the tight drums
thanx for the props Perfect!
man i can’t believe it just just found this website, i would of entered everyone. anyone know soon as this week is done there be more? does it happen all the time?
haha, yeah you showed up at the last week. We’ve been doing this particular remix contest for the past few months. Don’t worry, there will be more. We normally take a break after each contest, so the next one probably won’t start til next month sometime. No exact date yet, but the concept is in the works as we speak.
oh no kev…the resistance is back!!!
Just posted my joint. Critics are welcome
Alien – I like your chops, but I think it needs some more low end
Decatur – Sick piano chops, but same as Alien, I think it needs more low end.
DJTommyIIGunz – I like the way this one rides.
razorSHARPE – You always come hard with the drums, this one hits pretty hard. I like it.
Mellow Daze – Can never go wrong with a piano loop, you sampled the same melody I did, I just chopped it up.
Nittso – I like your drums
RodLoOs – Wow, this one is pretty impressive, it hits hard, which is a key point in this track.
Congrats on a great remix album guys, comments are appreciated
Decatur – KILLED IT! But what’s up with the end of it?
When will they announce the winner of week 13?
Sunday or Monday of next week.
Oh my bad.. I was a lil zoned out .. I end up finishin my rough draft 5 am n da mornin so i was half sleep.. but the final version will be in soon.. sorry bout the end.. heard it this mornin.
Brendan aka Crates – i think the meaning of the contest is to make a beat thats different to the origanal one, and if that means to take the whole loop then i will take it, and i posted it second, the first one was rodloos, so everybody could hear it from the begining.
U still did a different thing then i did, and thank u for the feedback!
Crates im going back in on it now.. Im gone take da advice about the low ends switch it up a lil more.
hey what’s good everybody im new to this contest so this is my first remix. i just found out about this completion three day ago. so please check out my remix and let me know what y’all think i didn’t use any sample and i also change the chorus a little to go with the beat.
Peace
The last one in the chamber for now…. Take that and study the blueprint for Danish Chopworks…
Damn, have to come with some fire for this one! RodLoOs……sh*t!
Mellow Daze, bossman! Obvislously, how you want your sh*t to be and sound is your choice but, I think if you got your voice on point, you would have a dope version. ‘Chat to your Mate’ Chuuch.
Thx for the props Jukebox, Brendan, getnyceproductionz and Nittso.
Just a little contribution for the Nottinghammers in order to supplement Brendan AKA Crates comments :
Brendan : I like this one. You should attenuate a little the bass, make a pause and some variations, differentiate the chorus from the verse, you know, in order to not be repetitve.
Isbjerg : yeah, you’re here dude. Original as usual (it sounds like an EPMD’ album title lol)
But I’m a little bit disappointed because I was waiting for some variations in your remix. C’mon man !
John Byrne : yeah, you have chosen the electric guitar part. Good choice (I did it too lol ).
But I found your remix too repetitve and the positioning of the samples may weaken it.
Makai : damn, dude. It’s really surprising.Personal composition with no sample. I’m not fan of electric piano but It’s original and personal
Nittso : I like that beat. The atmosphere of this remix is dark, intringuing.
Tictoc : Good choice of samples. You shouldn’t deliver all of them in the first verse. And The beat should be a little bit more hard I think.
Peace
COMIN’ SOON !
i’m a bit late on this one, have you heard about the “duckdown contest”?
http://www.duckdown.com/roadtosurvivalcontest/
BIG TINGZ !
OnE
http://www.myspace.com/bidimridim
@RodLoOs – Thanks for the feedback, I agree
@RodLoOs : I do follow you, but I had my mind set for the heavy breathing, the running in the gravel and some simple drums… I had the loop running for hours and were rhyming, thinking that a lot of joint are simple loops with a small detail here and there.. I listened to it a whole lot of times and found it to good to be left out by ignoring your suggestions.. So I went back in the lab and added some more chopping and some extra percussion and I love it now… So thanx..
Alright I got mine in Check it out if you wanna.
After mine, DJTommyIIGunz’s my favorite. Looove the vibe you put to it.
peace to y’all producers, good work too
I’m back off my weekly haitus *sp* lol
I appreciate the compliments and comments fellas.
I noticed one thing that was wrong with some of y’all’s remixes. You MUST use the sample to win. If you don’t you’ll be disqualified. You might wanna use the sample even if it’s just for an intro to the beat like I did. Of course I used the Kick and the Snare from the sample too, but you gotta be sure to use the sample. Kev has no problem listening to one less remix because of the samples. lol It makes his decision easier.
Just uploaded a rough mix, listened to a few others:
Beat Matixx, it’s like piano keys are raining meets Dan the Automator, great job!
Bidimridim, you’ve got the jazz for sure, a great sound!
Isbjerg, started out simple yet on point, then just grew like an orchestra, very exciting!
Ace on Da Track, like the piano melody but the drums kinda go in and out of the mix and I can’t hear them.
John Byrne, you got the hardest hitting beat, it’s earth-shattering! The second verse is out of sync whether or not you intended it or not, FYI.
Razorsharpe, the “Rock You” drums work amazingly well, gives the track a healthy rhythm.
Mellow Daze, you put yours up at the beginning of the week and I’ve been listening to the beat ever since, nice looping!
Nittso, the drums are very tight and the instrumental has an airyness of somethin’ about to go down…
Tictoc, i love what you did with the electric guitar and how you welded different parts of the Stanley Clarke song.
RodLoOs, you set the bar INCREDIBLY HIGH on the first day, and out of respect for how amazing your rock remix is, I avoided doing a rock-themed one completely. Plus your audio quality is one of the best. Props.
If you post it, more will come, hope you hear mine and can’t wait to hear the rest!
Ion the Prize – tnx for lisnin to my joint! like your drumz, you chopped it up nice and put the delay in which i think really fits good to them drums… nice changeups during the song too. nice work
Yoyo, Big up K Nott for hosting a dope ass contest, second props to all nottinghammers we def do our thing out here!!!! Been a pleasure competing against all y’all. Peace from the 416erz reppin the T to da Dot all day every day One Luv!
My final is up, take a listen. Thanks to Ion and RodLoOs for the comments i took em into consideration for my final. Some great beats this week, and every week. I’ll be back for the next remix album for sure. -Tictoc
Had to come back for the last week, I was busy with a lot of other musical projects plus work that I had to neglect the contest. But I came back with heat for this week. So enjoy y’all, and feedback is much appreciated. I will make sure to comment on some later on in the week, still got things to do.
I had some mixed feels on commenting this…. I need to write what I feel or thought hearing your joints….
44th: That’s some Trackmasters in their early days… Nice sound, nice big drums but I miss some variation – Maybe some breaks with the piano.. I really enjoy the big room in the joint..
Alien: A different intro and I was expecting a harder start… I like the feeling of the track, and there are some very nice parts of the original, but they seem randomly..
Beat Matixx: a simple production and I really feel the drums, but I would have used some remarkable sample to fit the drums.. Like in the chorus.. and turn the sample a bit up..
Bidimridim: Thats some jogging drums… Made me stand up just by listening… And youve had piano lessons ? You seem to understand the room for the instrument..
Decatur Boi Zay: Im sorry, but Im not feeling it… There’s some really worldclass chopping of the sampling and some lazy hihat.. I like the chopping, but the drums sounds to machine too me..
Makai: Pitching huh ? I like the energy in this… I dig the ideaam¨and the cartoonlike theme in it and somehow I hear some asian vibe in it..
Brendan: So you play the smooth vibe in the joint ? I like the simple things going well together..
TommyIIgunz : You got that nice sound in your joints – But too mainstream in this case, I consider these lyrics to be more raw and not clubby, but you got a really nice sense for making things come together…
Half Centric : The samples were everywhere… I like the beginning, but you lost me in the verses.. And then – piano playing crazy replacing guitars and chaos..
Ion the Prize : I like this… This combo works for me… A winner tune..
Ace On the Track : Make the crowd louder and you got a nice mix with all the stuff, I like to use…
John Byrne: I didnt feel the direction- Too much guitar.. Im a fan of the drums and the arrangement.. If you feel the rock in the joint, stand by it, but I just felt something else…
John Burnside: Did I just hear Pete Rock ? Not bad joint.. It got a broad appeal and the song carries a lot..
Razorsharpe : How the fluck can you miss the chance to throw Freddie into a bridge or something.. He could be singing ‘we are the champions in the seconds in the end… nice touch..
Mellow Daze: The hard thing is this contest is to stand out, and I took some pauses and listened to yours again.. Its a great attempt and the arrangement is great.. You can be proud of your good, clean and high product..
Nittso : nice claps,,, Nice chops… I like the little detail with your stretching the sample of the verses…
Phur: My main mayn coming through with 8 bit joypads and Rocky samples like me… Dawg..
Rodloos : The guitar again.. I like the hard edge on your track, but yours is really taken from an 80s flick…
TicToc : I like the joint.. A bit to many samples randomly in the verse – take one or two and stick with the third in the chorus…
tnx Isbjerg… means a lot to hear this from you, i appreciate it man.
whats up everyone. Just uploaded my remix for this week I should have never listen to the original first. Damn you Just Blaze. Anyway. Its pretty close to the original. But i switched it up a little. I dont have a full review for everyone, but these are the ones im feelin so far.
-Rodloos
-Bidimridim
-Ion the Prize
Thx for the love, fam.
@ Isbjerg : special shout out to you, man. Oh, what means”yours is really taken from an 80s flick (?)” ?.
Yo here’s my final one with a special big up to the GOAT at the end of the track … and that’s my philosophy !
One.
Thanks a lot isbjerg. I put those pianos in there to give my beat its on exercise. I understand where you are coming from, it may sound chaotic at first, but It fits with what I was tryna do. Big ups on your joint though man, you always come with fire.
Isbjerg – What crowd?
Brendan AKA Crates – When you say low end you mean something like a fade out? (sorry bout my english, i’m brazillian)
@ Alien – I meant more bass, it’s all good my man, I love how international this thing is
the johnny burnside remix got potential, but there are some whack (synth) sounds in it.
razorsharpe remix is cool, the mix could be better and some more drum patterns would have been good in my opinion.
mellow daze – the acapella and the beat aren’t synced correctly.
ransom notes – good one, but i think it’s too similar to the original beat.
rodloos – good combination of different samples! only thing i miss is a fat bassline.
thanks kevin for this contest. i’m curious what comes up next.
I’ll upload my remix soon.
@isbjerg: I got a nother rocky sample. I’m changing the last sample. It’s too closed to biting for me (on my end).
N-Jin- yes, they are.
@Ace – The HEY crowd in beginning of first verse.. You got some nice details in your remix..
@Rodloos – I meant that your joint reminds me of soundtrack music – Outstanding, like joints from some of many of the 80s movies – Less than Zero, The warriors, Cat People and so on… Good tunes, good times…
@phur – I was looking for two things… A nice dialog from either Rocky or Full Metal Jacket, something with exercise… I wanted my joint to be like a good run around the block, and thats where I got the gravel and the riding drums from..
Isbjerg – That’s what separates me from “the crowd”…
Rodloos and Mellow Daze : HOOO !! O_O
So my flip is lively.
ENJOY!!
I wish I had time to do more flips for this contest but y’all was rockin for 14 weeks!
That’s wassup! I enjoyed listening each week and have considerably improved my sampling game because of it. Thanks to all of you for some inspirational flippage! Yeee!
does it take some time till i can see the uploaded remix or should it show up immidiately? i tried to upload it twice. or do you activate it kev?
It should be immediate.
quick note— I composed the organ… we’re allowed to compose with it too right?! haha
yep
Was too busy to enter this week, but it would have been pointless….RodLoos came with that WOW factor this round
Thx ClearBlue and DJPlayuhh
DJPlayuhh : I like your intro and your remix. The moog is really cool, man. You should compress the drum and make your snare bang stronger.
@N-Jin : Yeah, you’re right. When I’ve posted my final mix I wasn’t totally glad about what I’ve done. After listening to it several times I’ve noticed that the drums were not banging and as you said the bassline was too flat.
I said to myself “damn man, shame on you ! this is an hip-hop joint, so, put your balls on the table, and make it rough, man !”. lol
And N-Jin your comments reinforced me to re-engineer my mix but keep Jay floating on it. THX dude.
I’ve finished it and to be honest this remix gives an headhach each time I listen too, it.
So, good recipe.
Right now, I’m gonna listen to it in my rapmobile for the last judgement.
I want Jay to float like a butterfly and the beat to sting like a bee.
Yo, Kev, my track named “-FINAL” won’t be my last one. I’ll title it “REALFINAL”.
Sorry for the disturbance, man.
you’re welcome, rodloos.
my remix is online!
posted my remix/
RodLoOs, your remix is f”kin sick!!!!!!!!!!!!
(sorry for my english, I’m russian))
It’s amazin how many countries are representin’ here — I’m in the Bay Area myself, what up? Uploaded my final, added a little Jane Fonda, don’t know how it’s gonna play out but I just went for it cause I’d regret it if I didn’t. Thanks for the feedback, I enjoyed listening to everybody’s work, we gotta keep on doing this!
(sorry about my english, I’m american)
Yo Ion I’m also Bay Area– what part? I’m Newark/Fremont
I’m in North Oakland/Berkeley, used to be @ UCSB a year ago
@RoDLoOs hahaha dude yea I’m always debating— compress or leave some breathing room… I wish compression was still analog so I could have that bang and completely avoid distortion— i personally like leaving it uncompressed or compressed lightly so the end user can pump up their bass. This is because I notice when I want to bump my mixes in my car I need to cut the bass when I compress and I have a decent sounding but stock camry speakers so my mixes are very much dictated by my camry! I figure people like to apply their own EQ and I mix it down at a lower volume so I can escape any kind of clipping.
@ion “sorry about my english, I’m american” – wtf??? in america they don’t speak english anymore?
by the way I am from Vienna, Austria (Europe).
@N-Jin, I was just pointing a joke on myself cuz the British don’t think Americans speak proper english, we’ve remixed their language you might say. Vienna’s awesome, they have some great music festivals over there.
haha ok
Final up.
Changes: realigned 2nd verse and bridge
@N-Jin and Ion the Prize
Hell in a just a few seconds Spanish is gonna be the official language of America. lol
Sorry final wasn’t the correct one, final2 is.
OMG! Im back ! Been away on business. Looks like Im back just in time to get at yall on the music tip. OOOOH there is some fire in this MUTHA*****!

‘jay z remix 3′
Let me know what you think. Good job to eveyone especially ‘Brendan AKA Crates’ very different and cool man!
Seems to be alot of good remixes This week, will put my up in a few hours!
Samcarioca, your remix is hypnotic!!!!!!!!
applause in intro sounds good, but I think could be better, if it were more reverb (like in concert hall) on Jay’s speach
Daaamn! Just found this contest, so i wanted to do my remix, but it s too late.. I hope there will be another contest, Kevin. A lot of good stuff here like Ibsjergs and Rodloos, but the Mellow Daze joint impressed me the most, i could listen to it all day.. Big up!
KB you have until 3pm eastern standard time to get the remix in.
Thanks Thomas, but i have no inspiration after hearing all these entries, so i will do something on the next contest if there will be some! Peace
Allright here is my remix, hope you like it. /Niklas
